Making good connections

They say that the key to success is in making good connections, and when it comes to electrical applications, that’s a view we definitely subscribe to at WAGO. In 1951 we first invented spring pressure technology for connecting electrical conductors. Fast-forward six decades and our concepts are now industry standard, and we continue to lead the charge towards safety, reliability and productivity.

As a technical partner, we make many of the interconnection and automation products that form the backbone of the solutions that PP provides for its customers. We work closely with them to supply components that are manufactured to the highest standards, and can be guaranteed to do the job. No one knows our products better than we do and the innovations that underpin them, and so we share our comprehensive knowledge and extensive experience to enable manufacturing partners to utilise our offering to its full potential.

We are always pleased to know that industry-leading OEMs such as PP choose WAGO products, and it demonstrates the high regard in which we are held within the market. But at the same time, we have to hold up our end of the bargain too, and that means a relentless commitment to ensuring our high standards, and those of WAGO’s and PP ’s customers, are met. We take utmost care to ensure that every single one of our products is built to specification, and rigorously tested before it leaves our production facility in the West Midlands.

A strong partnership can only truly work if it’s mutually beneficial to both parties. Having a supplier whose products can be used across a wide range of applications and industries is clearly beneficial to PP, from our modular I/O systems providing powerful, versatile automation, to our robust interconnection products that keep connections secure, reliable and safe. A major benefit for us is that customers who may not ordinarily have specified WAGO get to see just what our products are capable of.

As I said at the beginning, the key to success is having connections you can rely upon. Our continuing partnership with PP is one such connection that we’re certain will continue to provide our customers with electrical and automation solutions of true distinction both now and in the future.

Tony Hoyle

The strategic benefits of outsourcing partnerships to machine builders

One of the biggest challenges currently facing our customers is the need to turn around often highly customised and ever more complex machines in shorter lead times. In the past, machinery manufacturers could set the terms of how long a machine would take to be built and delivered, but over the past few years the balance of power has shifted towards the end customer. If we can’t provide them with what they need, when they need it, then they will (quite reasonably) look elsewhere.

Nowadays, customers require a higher degree of configuration than ever before, and it’s up to us to provide exactly what they need. Things can move quickly in industry, and our clients may find they have to find extra capacity at very short notice to respond rapidly to demand. This increased need for agility means that we need to design control systems that provide opportunities for modularisation and late customisation. Therefore good product design and effective specification at component level are critical.

There are five fundamental elements that we look for in a component:

• Safety • Efficiency • Reliability • Value • Effectiveness

Our suppliers must excel at all five if we are to serve our clients with world class quality that provide the solutions they need.

Even the highest standards of workmanship can’t save you from inferior components, which is why partnerships with suppliers like WAGO are so important to us. One cannot expect our customers to have confidence in our products if we don’t have confidence in the technology inside them.

At PP we are proud of our partnerships that we have developed with many of the world’s leading machinery builders. By working together, we have achieved remarkable results that have:

• Reduced overall manufacturing costs for our customers, increasing their competitiveness and margins.

• Reduced production cycle times for our customers.

• Increased internal capacity for our customer – meaning more output with no additional cost.

• Improved sales lead times to the end customer – often a critical differentiator.

Ultimately our partnerships have resulted in collective growth and success – the essence of any true partnership.
