Building Inspector I/II

Position:

Performs technical building inspection and plans examining work to enforce compliance with building codes, regulations and ordinances; researches new construction materials and methods; reviews plans for compliance with city, state, and federal rules and regulations; and

provides information to and works with the public to resolve problems. Position may be filled at either level depending upon qualifications.

Salary: $24.98 - $35.05 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Both positions include fully paid medical for most plans (including family cover-age) as specified in the current union contract.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

Building Inspector I: Two years’ experience in building construction trades, building technology industry, or related field. Experience conducting

building inspections is desirable.

Building Inspector II: Two years of increasingly

responsible building inspection experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abili-ties would be:

Building Inspector I Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and two years of experience in the building construction trades, building technology industry, or related field. Specialized training in the building trades and/or code enforcement and experience at a journey level are desirable. Experience conducting building inspections is also desirable.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license and posses-sion of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid building inspector certificate within one year of employment are required

Building Inspector II

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the building trades and/or code enforcement and two years of increasingly respon-sible building inspection experience.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license & possession of a valid building inspector certificate at time of hire are required.
