Building Lives

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

The Skill Development Programme of DLF

Foundation was launched under the banner of

DLF LIFE in early 2011. The Programme aims to train

and employ one million youth over the next 10 years

by establishing 250 training centers across the

country. As many as 20 DLF LIFE Skill training centers

were established during the year across the country

in a number of trades like IT, Hospitality, Retail,

Construction, Office Management, Electronics,

Customer Relations and Beauty Culture.

These centers have been established across the

states of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh,

Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka,

Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The target segment of the population that the skill

development initiative seeks to address is the poor

unemployed youth in the age group of 17 to 30 years.

All DLF LIFE Skill training centers provide

employment assured training and the emphasis is to

ensure quality jobs for this vast pool of underserved

population.

Market linkages have been established for

providing access to employment to the trained

youths.

35

Village Cluster Development Programme

DLF Foundation is actively engaged in developing

cluster of villages in rural Gurgaon. Under this

programme, a series of Primary Health Centers have

been established to act as nodal point of intervention.

These centers provide free medical consultancy,

specialist treatment, free diagnostics and subsidized

medicines to a large rural community. Linkages have

been established for secondary and tertiary health

care. Apart from provision of palliative and curative

care, the emphasis remains on the preventive and

promotive health care.

Besides, DLF Foundation is also focusing on forming

the Village Development Committee (VDC), which

would comprise of three sub-committees: the Village

Youth Council (VYC), the Village Council of Elders

(VCE), and the Village Health Committee (VHC). The

VDCs, in turn, will take a lead role in the process of

continuing to understand and respond to the needs of

their community.

VILLAGE CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT

In line with the Foundation’s commitment towards

‘Health for All’, regular community orientation

programmes are held which apart from providing

solutions, focus on information dissemination and

preventive healthcare practices.

Reaching Out to the Community

DLF Foundation organised several free multi-

speciality health camps. The camps provided

checkups, consultations and information on a wide

range of health issues for the underprivileged rural

communities. Besides providing various services, the

purpose of the village health camps were to orient the

rural community on health care aspects.

Medical Care @ Doorstep

DLF mobile clinics stand by the side of workers and

their families at the construction sites - bringing

doctors and medical aid right at their doorsteps.

Focused on providing free, accessible and quality

primary healthcare services, the mobile clinics have

helped 21160 patients. These mobile clinics operate

in six different regions in Gurgaon: Corporate Green,

Manesar; New Town Heights, Manesar; Express

Greens M1; Express Greens M2; Sector- 90 and

Sector- 91.

“The greatest wealth

is health.”

36

Healthcare services are not accessed by a vast

majority in the rural and semi urban areas. Due

to the lack of access to quality medical services and

their inability to pay for medical facilities in far villages,

people keep away from seeking timely medical

intervention. The DLF supported Primary Healthcare

Project has tried to fill this gap in two states of Haryana

and Punjab. Running now in their fourth year, they

operate in Haryana (Nawada Fatehpur, Hayatpur,

Sakatpur and Shikopur) and in Punjab (Village

Dhanaura and Mohali) aiming to provide quality

healthcare at an affordable price to the rural

community. Special focus is on women and children.

Some of the out-patient services include maternal and

child healthcare, family planning and welfare,

prevention and control of communicable diseases and

other primary healthcare services.

Under the wider programme of DLF supported

Primary Health Care Project, a screening

camp was organised at Government Middle School,

Toga, Punjab. A paediatrician, a general health

practitioner and an eye specialist examined

100 students from middle school and 150 students

from primary school for general ailments,

weight, nutritional status, worms and eye

ailments. The objectives of the health camp

were to identify the health problems among

underprivileged and poor children, arouse

adequate consciousness about health and hygiene

and provide adequate medication. The one-day

camp was a huge success.
