As an independent medium-sized family business, GEZE can look back on 150 years of history. Since its beginnings in 1863, GEZE has developed into a global market leader in the field of inno-vative buildings technology. GEZE will celebrate the company jubilee with various events spread over the year.

GEZE in motion since 1863

The jubilee motto contains impor-tant company objectives: Innova-tive strength, and focus on the fu-ture. They give rise to the most exacting requirements in terms of quality and the usefulness of the products, international outlook, solid growth and social and envi-

ronmental responsibility.

From a small craftsman’s busi-ness to a global player

GEZE has its origins in the com-pany Dreherei Vöster and Co. that was founded in 1863 in Göppin-gen. Reinhold Vöster could have been the third generation to con-tinue managing it if he had not struck out in a different direction during the turbulent industrialisa-tion of Stuttgart. As a mechanical engineer he bought and founded

his own hardware companies. He smoothed the path to today’s company through the merger with Vereinigte Baubeschlagfabriken Gretsch & Co. GmbH in 1924. At that time the most successful products were the so-called trans-port fittings for sliding doors, which came to be used in buses, trams and train carriages through-out Europe. They were also in-stalled beyond Europe and in the Zeppelin airships. Olympic gold was won with the legendary GEZE ski bindings.

Reinhold Vöster was 84 years old when he handed his lifetime’s work over to his 24 year old grand-daughter, Brigitte Vöster, in 1968. She ushered in the process of growth and internationalisation which still predominates today. In 1980 a brand name became the new name of the company. Ver-einigte Baubeschlagfabriken Gretsch & Co. GmbH became GEZE GmbH, which from then onwards concentrated on solu-tions for doors and windows.

GEZE introduces the “intelligent building”

Today GEZE is one of the build-ing industry’s largest suppliers of premium products worldwide. Accessibility for all users, multi-

functionality, interconnectivity and operation via the Internet will define the doors and win-dows of the future. The product range offers complete solutions which combine various door and window functions in one system, realising the “smart building” vi-sion of the future today. GEZE solutions are developed in its own technology centre. The company has 354 patents and patent appli-cations in Germany, with as many as 559 in other countries.

GEZE in the buildings of the world

Prestigious buildings throughout the world are equipped with GEZE products. The new Acropolis Mu-seum in Athens for example, or the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stutt-gart, the Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofía opera house in Valencia, or the Shanghai Grand Theatre.Global and local simultaneously

With almost 2,600 employees and 31 subsidiaries – including 27 outside Germany – GEZE is represented in 110 countries. Its global sales and service network combining cutting edge technol-ogy with professional technical support is one of the major factors driving its growth.

Living or working in a large building or com-mercial space, we of-ten tend to take a few features for granted

such as uninterrupted supply of water and electricity, smooth functioning of air-conditioning, lifts, alarms, etc., without realis-ing the existence of complicated systems that ensure smooth functioning.

Building controls systems help a great deal in controlling, moni-toring, optimising and reporting the status of the building’s facili-

ties, mechanical and electrical equipment for comfort, safety and efficiency of its occupants.

These systems usually com-prise power systems, illumina-tion system, electric power con-trol system, HVAC system, etc. It also helps keep a tab on the secu-rity and observation system, lifts, elevators, burglar alarms and other engineering systems through centralised controls. Needless to say, this feature al-lows building occupants and owners to enjoy good control of internal comfort conditions, pos-sibility of individual room con-trol and effective monitoring.

Maintenance companies have been able to make good use of the available technology by tar-geting energy consumption and reducing it to sustainable levels to avoid wastage. The improved plant reliability, life system and effective response to HVAC-re-lated complaints (heating, venti-

lation and air conditioning) largely save time and money during maintenance.

Development in this sector is giving the building control systems industry a make over, and that too, fast. From wired stuff to the wireless world of gad-gets, wireless networks are helping fuel a major shift in the commercial building controls market. Wire-less controls are increasingly being used to link de-vices across a variety of building systems including lighting, HVAC, fire and safety, and security and ac-cess. As per a report from Navigant Research, a US-based company that focuses on analyses and report-ing on clean technology markets globally, the worldwide revenue from wireless control systems for building automation will reach $294.8 million by 2020.

This is beside the fact that wireless controls are generally more expensive than its wired counter-parts. However, industry experts don’t dismiss the

transition as a fad. On the contrary, wireless tech-nology is argued to offer an edge to building own-ers and managers, and dole out a number of eco-nomic benefits such as reduced labour costs and controlled usage — an attribute that will make the wireless technology a lot more popular and accept-able in coming years.

Crestron’s next generation CP3 3-Series Control System® provides a powerful platform that simplifies the design, integration and control of AV, lighting, HVAC, energy management, BMS and all other connected systems in com-mercial buildings, universities, schools, homes and multi-campus environments.

Featuring faster processing speeds, more memory, high-effi-ciency multi-tasking capabilities, external storage options, built-in BACnet support and enhanced IP security, CP3 delivers exponential increases in control system per-formance for the largest commer-cial facilities, making it an essen-tial component to any integrated building technology environment.

At a budget-friendly price, CP3 is exceptionally versatile, also mak-ing it ideal for advanced home control applications.

“CP3 is more than just a new control system, it’s the future of networked, integrated building and home control,” says Robin van Meeuwen, VP of Crestron Interna-tional. “The new 3-Series systems are the backbone of the most pow-erful control networking platform available today. At up to 10 times faster than 2-Series processors, CP3 takes integrated building technology to a powerful new level of control functionality.”

Compact and rack mountable, CP3 enables real-time multi-task-ing to flawlessly run up to 10 inde-pendent programs simultaneous-ly. IT-like programming architecture enables integrators to perform system maintenance and expansion in ways not previ-ously possible. Upgrades can be performed on any individual sub-system — such as AV, lighting con-trol, HVAC, security systems and climate control — without affect-ing the entire system. Since each control program is independent, a

restart of one program has no ef-fect on the others. The result is improved system architecture and virtually no downtime.

Onboard BACnet/IP support enables seamless integration with existing building management systems and other BACnet devic-es. All systems can now run inde-pendently and communicate with each other on the same high-pow-ered Crestron platform, creating a truly smart building. Using Cre-stron 3-Series control systems, integrated control of lighting, shades, HVAC, AV, BMS, security, IT, and other connected systems now become faster, simpler and significantly more efficient.

Built-in SNMP support enables integration with third-party net-work management software, al-lowing control and monitoring in a format that’s familiar to IT per-sonnel. Using Fusion RV™ Re-mote Asset Management Soft-ware, staff can perform remote scheduling, monitoring, and con-trol of rooms and technology from a central help desk, resulting in significant, measurable produc-tivity gains.
