Romans 12:1-2, NASB• Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the

mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. • And do not be conformed to this world,

but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

James 3:6, NASB•And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.

• to abstain from things forbidden by God, and

• to practice with moderation things allowed by God.

Page 13: Building Blocks for Life: Being Self-Disciplined.

Application

•Specifically, we need to control our thoughts, our words, and our deeds (Prov. 29:11; Mark 7:20-23; Eph. 4:25-32; James 3:2-12).

Conclusion & Challenge•Someone who has self-control

evidences strength, while those who lack self-control evidence weakness. •As Joshua was admonished, “Be

strong and courageous” (Josh. 1:6-9), Christians have the same duty (1 Cor. 16:13-14; Eph. 6:10-17; 2 Tim. 2:1-7).
