UWCs are a group of 18 international schools which aim to use education as a mean to create a peaceful and sustainable future. To expand the values, summer programs in different countries such as Germany, Turkey, Finland are organized by young people affiliated with UWC. The UWC Short Course Building a Sustainable Future is inspired by the 2016 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and hopes to provide a platform for youths to reflect and act upon the SDGs in a time when it is ever more relevant. WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT? The course aims to look at the different dimensions of sustainability and empower young people to take action based on them, both during and after the course, in their home communities. Guided by the SDG framework, the course will enable participants to think of changes they want to see in their societies, thereby empowering them to take action in the areas they deem most relevant - be it environmental, social or economic. The program will consider ways of building sustainable diverse societies, which also means finding ways of dealing with migration and other prevalent social topics. Participants will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the emergent value of such diversity, being surrounded by peers from many backgrounds. The overaching mission of UWC — to make education a force for peace — will bring all the pieces together in pointing at sustainable development as our way to peace. “UWC makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. ~ UWC Mission Statement BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
