2005 Philanthropy Guide www.thebusinessledger.com 630-571-8911 Nicor is privileged to serve more than 2 million customers in northern Illinois, and we consider giving back to the community a strong part of our respon- sibility to our customers. It’s why we’ve been a major contributor to United Way for our entire 51-year history and why we encourage our employees to embrace volunteerism. This year, we were honored to receive the West Suburban Philanthropic Network’s “Corporate Philanthropic Award” in recognition of our commit- ment to philanthropy and volunteerism. Among the highlights of our programs: Nicor once again had the largest walk team at the Naperville site of WalkAmerica on April 24. More than 250 walkers raised funds for the March of Dimes’ fight against birth defects. Pledges collected by employees, along with matching dollars from Nicor, totaled more than $35,000. Nearly 900 volunteers spread out across northern Illinois on May 21 to complete 18 projects in 15 communities as part of our annual Volunteer Day. Projects ranged from river and out- door cleanup to painting and food sorting. Employees who participated also received a $100 grant to benefit the non-profit agency of their choice. For those employees who invest their personal time to support non-profit organizations, Nicor is pleased to offer a $500 Volunteers in Partnership Grant to benefit that organization. To keep employee volunteerism going strong throughout the year, Nicor is proud to serve as the founding corporate sponsor of chicagovolunteer.net, a Web site that connects citizens with more than 3,000 volunteer opportunities across the Chicago metro area.
