• A public-private partnership• Formed to engage Americans of all ages and
backgrounds in service to meet community needs • Two main programs: AmeriCorps & Senior Corps• Programs focus on education, disaster preparedness
& response, veterans & military families, poverty & homelessness, the environment, and other critical areas.

• Unlike VISTA Members, who serve “behind the scenes” on capacity building and programmatic development, AmeriCorps State and National Members perform direct service.
• Grantees include: national and local nonprofits, schools, and universities, public agencies, and Native American tribes
• Full-time and part-time opportunities
AmeriCorps in Kentucky
The 13 different AmeriCorps programs operating in Kentucky tutor kids who are behind in school, help domestic violence
survivors achieve financial stability, provide independent living services to low income seniors, and address other critical needs
in the Commonwealth.

Member Benefits• Taxable living allowance of $12,100, divided into equal
bi-monthly payments• Health insurance, unless waived• Workers Compensation coverage• Education award of $5,550 upon successful completion
of the program
Member Requirements• Serve at least 1700 hours
over the course of one year. This time is spent mostly on direct service activities at the Member’s Service Site.
• Attend all required Build Corps training events.
• Plan and conduct Build Corps service projects.

and low income housing issues• Basic case management• Basic construction site safety• Teambuilding• Disaster preparedness and
recovery services, provided by the Kentucky Community Crisis Response Board (KCCRB)
• Additional training throughout the program year
Build Corps Service Projects• All Build Corps Members will work with other Members in
their region to plan and implement disaster preparedness trainings with low income community members.
• Build Corps Members will also participate in other special service activities throughout the year, such as a pre-Thanksgiving food drive, Stand Downs, and MLK Day service projects.
