Guide

1.3 Notes and Cautions

1.3.1 Download Failure Remotely

Upgrade Risk Related to Functions

Description

Problem Description

When the NodeB license is used to change the state of the dynamic CE switch, the license may fail to be delivered.

Impact When changing the state of the dynamic CE switch of the NodeB, the site should carry no UE, that is, all the cells should be disabled. Otherwise, the license may fail to be delivered.

Workaround Deactivate all the cells, and then deliver the license to change the state of the dynamic CE switch of the NodeB.

Probability None

1.3.2 Version Requirements for Other NEsCheck "Related Product Version" in the BTS3900-BTS3900A-DBS3900 WCDMA V200R011C00SPC300 Release Notes released with the version to determine whether the RNC, CME, LMT, and M2000 should also be upgraded.

1.3.3 Notes The upgrade procedure must be in strict compliance with the upgrade guide.

Do not upgrade different types of NEs at the same time.

Perform a trial upgrade on one or multiple sites. After the sites properly run for more than three days, perform the batch upgrade on the sites on the commercial networks if no problem occurs. The upgrade procedure and preparation for a single-site upgrade are the same as those for the batch upgrade.

During the upgrade, wait for the command response and check whether the command is run successfully before you run the next one. If the command fails, follow the instructions provided in this guide.

Do not perform the following operations on the WMPT when upgrading the software:

− Power off the WMPT

− Manually reset the WMPT

− Pull out or insert the WMPT

If there is a standby WMPT, check whether the status of the board is available.

If the upgrade fails or the network performance seriously deteriorates in the dialing test after the upgrade, a version rollback is recommended. The rollback depends on the real situations of the network and the requirements of the customer. For details about how to perform the rollback, see chapter 4 "Version Rollback."

3.3.2 Confirming the Configuration BaselineRun the CFM CB command to back up the active version, including software version and data configuration file, to create a new Configuration Baseline (CB). If the upgrade fails, you can confirm the CB, for details about rollback operation steps see 4 "Version Rollback."

There are two modes to confirm the CB: FORCED and UNFORCED. If the FORCED mode is selected, the system recreates a CB even if the active CB is confirmed. If the UNFORCED mode is selected, reconfirming the CB fails if the active CB is confirmed.

It is recommended that Confirm Mode be set to UNFORCED, which is the default value of the parameter. Because the name of the CB cannot be duplicated, the CB might be named with the corresponding current running version and date, such as V200R011C00SPC200_20090725.

NOTE

After the confirmation of the CB, do not change the configuration. Otherwise, the CB should be reconfirmed.

5.3 FAQ2

Question

How to clear the fault in an abnormal IPoA channel at the far end and in a broken link between the M2000 and a NodeB after the NodeB is upgraded?

Answer

If the NodeB OM IP address fails to be pinged, refer to Table 5-1 for specific solutions.

Table 5-1 Solutions to the failure to ping the NodeB OM IP address

Symptom Solution

The related alarms indicate that the E1 link between the RNC and the NodeB or the IMA/UNI/CP port incurs faults.

Rectify the faults in the E1 transmission until all the related alarms are cleared.

The result of running DSP E1T1 command at the RNC indicates that the IMA groups at the RNC and NodeB fail to interwork because there is an E1 link working in loopback mode in the IMA group of the NodeB configured at the RNC.

Reset the IMA group at the RNC. If the fault in the IPoA channel persists, reset the IMA group after removing the E1 link that works in loopback mode at the RNC.

The result of the on-site check indicates that the RUN/ALM/ACT LEDs on the WMPT are not in the expected states.

Contact Huawei technical support engineers or NodeB troubleshooting specialists immediately. Collect the related data under the guidance of the specialist. After getting the approval of the specialist, reset, remove, install, or replace the WMPT until all the related faults are rectified.

5.5 FAQ4

Question

What is the function of the NodeB file server?

Answer

To upgrade NodeB software, you can set the NodeB file server to the M2000 or the related RNC. The server is used to store NodeB software packages and to provide FTP server services for the NodeB to be upgraded. When the software is upgraded, the NodeB needs to download the software package from the file server.

The NodeB file server can be set to either the M2000 or the related RNC.

If the RNC acts as the file server, it has the following advantages:

During the upgrade, the NodeB can download software packages in batches from the related RNC at a higher speed than from the M2000.

5 FAQsBTS3900-BTS3900A-DBS3900 WCDMA Upgrade

Guide

If a firewall restricts the access of the NodeB FTP client to the M2000 server in the IP network configuration, software packages fail to be downloaded from the NodeB file server M2000 but can be downloaded from the NodeB file server RNC.

Therefore, it is recommended that the NodeB file server be set to the RNC by default.

NOTE

Before upgrade, you only need to check that the NodeB file server is correctly configured.

If the configuration of the NodeB file server is correct, the NodeB software package can be automatically downloaded from the M2000 server to the NodeB file server.

5.6 FAQ5

Question

Why can the download rate be higher during the upgrade process if the Download by Configuration check box is selected?

Answer

The NodeB software package contains the software for all the boards supported by the NodeB. Each board type corresponds to one board software package.

In regular mode, the entire NodeB software package is downloaded to the NodeB. In practice, however, only some types of board are configured on the NodeB, and not all board software packages are required.

Download by configuration refers to the action to download the required board software from the file server during the upgrade according to the types of board currently configured on the NodeB. This can effectively reduce the total volume of data to be downloaded, minimize the duration, and ensure that the software package occupies the least storage space on the hard disk.

Generally, download by configuration has the following benefits:

Only the required board software packages are downloaded according to the current NodeB configuration.

The valuable maintenance link bandwidth is utilized effectively, the duration of downloading the software is minimized, and the upgrade efficiency is improved.

The storage space on the hard disk of the NodeB is utilized effectively, and waste of storage space for software not to be used is avoided.

This mode features a higher download rate when the NodeB is configured with boards of fewer types.

If the alarm with the ID 3539 is generated, run the SPL SOFTWARE command to supplement the software.

5.7 FAQ6

Question

How to handle the following alarms generated when rolling back the version by running ACT CB: the alarm with ID 3500 (Board Software Version Mismatched) and the alarm with ID 3539 (Board Software Package in NodeB Active Directory Not Exist)?

Answer

During the upgrade, the version to be rolled back is downloaded according to the configuration. In this case, if some boards are not configured, the corresponding software packages are not downloaded to the NE. When these boards are configured and the NE is being upgraded to another version, the corresponding software packages are not available in the standby directory. If the version is rolled back to the version before upgrade, the alarm with ID 3500 (Board Software Version Mismatched) and the alarm with ID 3539 (Board Software Package in NodeB Active Directory Not Exist) are generated.

To solve the problem using the M2000, upload the corresponding software packages again to the M2000 server, and then run SPL SOFTWARE to manually supplement the board software. The NodeB automatically activates the board software.

To solve the problem using the LMT, run SPL SOFTWARE to manually supplement the board software. The NodeB automatically activates the board software. If the command cannot be run successfully and the software packages are removed from the local hard disk or their paths are changed, you should download the software packages again and activate them.
