One of the many privileges of being involved with Birmingham Theological Seminary has been the opportunity to become acquainted with some of the most committed Christians I have ever known.

The BTS student body has a high degree of zeal for Christ; many are already involved in active ministry in a wide variety of venues. They may be pastoring, serving as missionaries, writing, teaching Sunday school, or leading in their local church as ordained officers. Each is trying to further their Biblical knowledge in order to be more effective instruments in the Lord’s hands.

As a pastor myself, it has been a joy to see a number of individuals from our church enroll in classes at BTS. Let me share some of these with you.

Doug Morgan, an elder at Evangel, graduated from BTS and is now in the process of becoming a hospital chaplain, a calling for which he is incredibly gifted. Another of our elders, Jay Haley, was recently ordained at Pleasant Grove Church to serve under Jim Maples as an associate pastor. Jay, who currently teaches at BTS, is also doing Ph.D. work through a university in South Africa. Another gifted member of Evangel, David Marvin, has completed his M.Div. work.

Currently one of our associate pastors, David Maginnis is working on a D.Min. in pastoral counseling under the oversight of Dr. Eyrich, a unique opportunity for David. Jeph Guinan, graduated from BTS two years ago. He is now an Evangel Presbytery Evangelist, and is planting a church in Calera, AL, with the assistance of our presbytery. Luke Stannard is serving with Cru in Hungary and taking BTS distance courses. Almost twenty men and women in our church have either pursued degrees or taken classes for personal growth.

We at Evangel Church are reaping great benefits from having BTS available to us. We are blessed with excellent Bible teachers who have

Get started on the right foot. Don’t miss student orientation!

received seminary training for both our adult and children’s programs! The involvement of these graduates has also increased the vision of our church to pray for, and aid individuals called into Christian service.

Years ago, the leadership of Evangel determined to intentionally support BTS through the giving of a set monthly amount. Whenever we have no members enrolled at BTS, this money goes into the general fund. If we have members enrolled, that monthly contribution goes to defray their tuition. This policy has enabled many of our members to take seminary classes, and allows us to support the work of BTS as well.

This regular support for BTS reaps benefits far beyond the walls of our local church. I would challenge all our churches to consider taking this step to train the next generation of leaders for your local body, and for the world, through Birmingham Theological Seminary.

JAN Term Coming this JanuaryThis January, we are pleased to offer two weeks of week-long intensive courses. BTS offered Jan terms in the past and they were quite popular. We believe this will be a convenient option for students wanting to take classes at a faster pace to finish their degree programs.

The Jan term will offer two courses, each lasting a week. Classes will meet for 4 hours a day at a convenient time. Look for the Jan term course offerings to be announced in December.

New Classrooms this Fall

Beginning this Fall semester, we are pleased to begin holding classes in the new classrooms across from the seminary office. Classes will now meet on the Seminary hallway in rooms A-209, A-201 and A-202.

Registration will be held in the BTS office instead of the Worship Center lobby.

Degree Audits

Students who have taken a class within the last year will be receiving degree audits in the mail. The degree audit is designed to assist you selecting your next course. If you have any questions about your degree audit, please contact the BTS office.

If you have not declared a degree program, please consider selecting a program. BTS is considering making changes to many degree programs. If you have not declared your degree program, these changes may effect you. If you would like to discuss your degree program, contact Irene Hayes at 776-5356 to schedule an appointment.

Logos Training SeminarDate: Saturday, October 5 • Time: 8:30-12:30 • Cost: $100 • Snacks Provided • No academic credit for this seminar • Registrations due by September 26

The LOGOS software is required for all degree-seeking students. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to use this valuable ministry and study tool.
