The ProgrammesStaffordshire University, through the School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE), City University of Hong Kong is offering three, two-year, part-time programmes leading to Bachelor of Science Honours Degrees. These programmes are designed to enable sub-degree graduates in IT related disciplines to build on their studies to date, and by undertaking a specially designed programme, to qualify for the award of the BSc (Hons) Computing Science (BScCS), BSc (Hons) Information Systems (BScIS) or BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology (BScBIT). SCOPE has over 15 years' collaboration with Staffordshire University, and has produced more than 1,600 IT professionals through the delivery of these three programmes.

Computing ScienceProgramme AimsThe ever-increasing use of technology in everyday life means that more and more emphasis is being placed on recruiting individuals with a specialist computing background. The Computing Science award aims to provide students with a solid grounding in computing fundamentals and to offer students the opportunity to develop their own interests in thefieldofcomputing.

Information SystemsProgramme AimsInformation and the management of IT play an increasingly important role in society today. The Information Systems award recognizes the need for people and technology towork in harmony so it introduces students to information processing and business and management processes. Throughout the award, there is an emphasis on how information is developed, controlled, delivered and used in commercial and business environments.

On completing the Information Systems award, graduates will have the skills to work in systems analysis and business consultancy, and also have a good foundation for information technology management.

Programme AimsThe Business Information Technology award integrates business and commerce with information technology and transferable skills. There is a focus on using IT to solve business problems. Students will understand the role of IT in Business, know the functions that take place and be up-to-date in the latest internet and IT applications. This award is suitable for students who would like to work with computers but also have an interest in their business context. Itrecognizestheneedforpeopleandtechnologyto work in harmony.

ClassesFor students taking 180 credits, there are approximately 6 class hours per week (normally including 1 weekday evening or 1 weekend afternoon/evening). Students taking 240 credits will start the programme one semester earlier and are required totakeonemoreclassperweekinthefirsttwosemestersofYear 1. Classes will be held at SCOPE Learning Centres in Kowloon Tong or at other SCOPE Learning Centres in TST.

Assessment and Award In general, each taught module consists of 36 contact hours and 114 hours of independent study. The taught modules include lectures, tutorials and lab sessions. Assessment for taught modules is by coursework and examination. During thefinalyearofstudies,studentsarerequiredtoundertakeamajorproject.

Programme Administration The programme is administered by SCOPE, City University of Hong Kong. Teaching on the programme is conducted by local practitioners and lecturers approved by Staffordshire University. Staffordshire University closely monitors the progress and quality of the programme. University staff, the Programme Advisor and the External Examiner appointed by Staffordshire University visit the programme every year.

Entry Point 2 (180 credits)Graduates of Associate Degree/ Higher Diploma in Computing or IT related disciplines or those with equivalent qualifications;orOther students with equivalent qualifications will also beconsidered. All students are expected to meet the required prerequisites in order to be considered for a different award. Students who do not meet the prerequisites may be required to study additional module(s) and an additional fee will be charged accordingly.Current year graduates who have met the above requirements may also apply for admission.
