“Many things in life may catch your eye, but few things cap-ture your heart” ... pursue those! Family, friends and cows –those are the things that we are passionate about at BrylorRanch! And after the winter we are having, it’s a damn goodthing I like my herd right now!

As you flip through this bull sale catalogue you will soonnotice we are taking some different roads or avenues in ourprogram. I do firmly believe, though, the changes we aremaking are for the betterment of our outfit and for you, ourcustomers. We are forever trying to improve on how wemanage our cows and sale bulls and always striving to betterourselves as people. Some days both tasks are equallychallenging!!

Right now, however, it is pretty easy to like being in the cowbusiness. Kill cows and bulls are at an amazingly good dollarand feeders and fats are almost to the point where folks canactually make a buck! Talk this fall has got everyone trying just

a little harder to spend that extra moment or two tending to every lastsingle calf to do everything possible to get him to market in October.

Stay diligent, though, folks with the culling practices in your herds. Iknow we have here at Brylor. We bought the Get-A-Long herd a yearago not to increase the number of sale bulls we have to offer but tojump up the quality factor a notch or two! I have noticed many of myfellow purebred cattle producers and bull suppliers have increased theirnumbers of sale bulls over the last couple of years which doesn’t makemuch sense to me as our national cowherd has deteriorated down tohalf of what it was.

I’ll leave you with this one last thought... “Even if you are on theright path but just standing still, you will get run over!”.

Our high seller two years ago at $37,500 to Bob & Lance Marcerin BC. His first two sons, as bull calves last fall, sold for $15,000 and$57,500. His first four daughters to sell went for $7000, $6750, $6100and $4000. Besides being an exciting outcross black/red carrer bull bred by Kodiak 5R,

his feet have remained as good as the day he was born. His dam, 70M, has a lotto do with that. Buy his sons for their calving ease and superior maternal qualities, too!

All three of these bulls on this page sold in our 2012 Bull Sale andwe A.I.’ed to each of them that spring. Fort Knox was a $14,000 FortRock 151R grandson who went to JAS Red Angus in Manitoba. A natural born son of 66K, the dam to Master Plan, Fort Knox’s daughtersare smokin’ good! Sons have lots of hair, excellent performance and are rugged.

I debated long and hard with “the guy in the mirror” about keeping this calf!His dam is my favorite Get-A-Long cow - she is fabulous! 136A, himself, is big on performance and muscle and has a huge set ofnuts – I believe he’s just as good, if not better, than his sire was at this stage!

The sire of these “Paycheck” bulls was a muscled up bodybuilderfrom McTavish Red Angus in Eastern Saskatchewan. Did he ever have a hindquarter to him ... and lots of hair as well! 203S, the dam to Lot #52, was a terrific daughter of Basin Sensation.

This Lot #49 has always been an attractive bull right from the start. We saw lighter birth weights from the Nikita 3T cow last year. A son of herswent to Clay Enterprises in Wapella, SK. Calving ease is prevalent in these Kodiak sons!

It’s with great sadness that we remember two veryspecial people that we lost in 2013. Our Bull Sale won’t

be the same without these two guys here with us.

Mike Hofer from East Cardston built a program 2nd to none. Therewasn’t maybe a guy in the entire cow business who had as much passionfor his cowherd as Mike did and it shows.

The other is John Keeley from the L4L Ranch. John and his wife,Donna, were always in the front row at Fort Macleod and were our vollumebuyers for the past several years (10+). John loved the land, his cows, golf-ing and skiing with Donna and, above all else, he loved his family! I don’tknow what I did right but John seemed to like me and my bulls... I suppose Ireminded him of one of his sons named Justin!

MEET THE JUDGE FOR 2014 ... Dave Longshore - Bar-E-L Angus, Stettler, AB

The first time I met Dave Longshore it was in 1994 at the RedRound-up Bull Futurity. I had a showstick in one hand and theGrand Champion Bull of the Bull Futurity, Red Brylor Stryker 52D,in the other. Dave had on a tie and had a mic in one hand talkingabout my calf as the judge that day – we were off to a pretty goodstart!

Over the years I watched him and his growing operation atBar-E-L near Stettler, Alberta, with his wife, Lynn, and their threekids. They had Polled Herefords and were starting their Black &Red Angus herds.

Dave has judged many shows over the last several years in-cluding both Black and Red Angus shows at Agribition and BlackAngus at Farmfair back when it was a huge event in the 90’s.

Dave has also been on the end of several winning halterssuch as back to back to back Grand Champion Bull titles at Agribi-tion the last three years in a row in the Blacks and Grand Cham-pion Red Angus Female this past Agribition with a heifer thatBar-E-L bred and raised.

Dave and his family havea lot of passion for the cowbusiness and a lot of pride intheir very impressive Bar-E-Lcowherd!

It will be a very specialLitle Royal in 2014 as Davewill sort through the pens as atrue cattleman!

My name is Tieggan Rouleau. I was born in One Four, a small research ranch just south ofMany Berries and for as long as I can remember my dad has always been part of the agricul-tural world. All my life I have lived and breathed the country lifestyle including its morals andvalues which I have felt to be veryimportant in becoming who I am today.

As a little girl I was always the first to help dad in and around the barn and especiallywith the horses. My true passion has always been with horses and every day I am so thankfulthat I have been privileged enough to grow up with and own my horse on an acreage outside ofFort Macleod. They have taught me so much about responsibility and also about myself.

I try and be involved in as many agriculture events as I can attend. My dad's customerappreciation days have always been a fun event that I loved to attend. The whole atmosphereof the agriculture world has always felt like home to me, and I am pursuing my dream to keepthis agriculture atmosphere in my life, by attending the Lethbridge College for Marketing inorder to hopefully work for Altech – an agriculture/ feed company. This would allow me to putmy talents to work but also keep me in the world I love.

I am currently in Altech’s Ambassador Program which allows me to get an insidesneak peek at an everyday work day in the office and at major events like the Alberta BeefSeminar in February. I can't wait to finish school and get my life started and start down my ca-reer path that I am so excited to begin.

Team roping is the one thing I am so passionate about right now. The people that you are able to interact with in a team roping settingis the most amazing experience, they are all kind and friendly people that have the right moral and values that you can respect. The peopleare as much as part of the experience as the horses, steers and roping.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par atFort Macleod, Alta. The right of property shall not pass until settlementis made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale be-fore any cattle will be released.

RETAINED INTERESTS - Brylor Ranch is initiating another new pro-gram for retaining the right to possibly use a few of the bulls in this2012 sale. Instead of retaining a 1/3 semen interest in selected lots,we will instead reserve the right to collect 100 straws of semen on anybull in the catalogue at our expense and the buyer’s convenience.Buyer otherwise owns the bull, except in the case of bulls denoted as1/2 interest lots.

BIDS - Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highestbidder A floor price will apply to each animal consigned.

DISPUTES - In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened betweenthe parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be theperson from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auction-eer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the pur-chaser as soon as the auctioneer declares the animal sold.

ANNOUNCEMENTS - Errors discovered in the catalogue will be cor-rected by announcements from the Auction Stand at sale time andsuch corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in thecatalogue.

SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after thesale, but no risk is assumed by the Fort Macleod Auction Market Ltd.,or the seller.
