By Rin Porter  After Minnesota became a state in 1858, it took about a decade before the early counties, like Tod d, got organized and divided into townships. O.B. DeLaurier, the Long Prairie Leader reporter who recorded many of the histories of pioneers and local gov- ernments in Todd County, wrote, “When Todd County was organized and subdi- vided in 1867, Moran was made a part of the Town of Hartford…. On March 20, 1877, the Town of Moran was established by order of the Board of County Commissioners. As established at that time, it contained its present territory, and in addition, the territo- ry embraced by the present towns of Staples, Fawn Lake, and Villard” (June 18, 1936). DeLaurier goes on to suggest that John Moran, a lumberman listed on the Minnesota Territorial Census of 1849 as living in Long Prairie, may have been the person for whom the township was named, but he has no way of verifying that. Some time after 1877, the size of Moran Townsh ip was reduced to its present boundaries. Tod ay , Moran Township is a square area of land, like most other townships, six miles wide by s ix mil es long . It is situated just west of Fawn Lake Township, just north of Ward, just south of Staples T ownship, and just east of Germania, in the northern third of Todd Coun ty. The Long Prairie River runs north through the east portion of the land, and Moran Creek empties into the ri ver. Cou nty Road 21 runs north and south through the center of the township. In 1877, the year the township was established, a num- ber of pioneers were living along the valley of the Long Prairie River in Moran. These early settlers included Jairus H. Cates, John Senti, Lucien and Wallace Wolf whom we met in our history of Fawn Lake, John and William Jacobs, Adeline and Hartwell Dain, Simon P. The Browerville Tigers faced rival Long Prairie-Grey Eagle for the Conference Championship in front of a home crowd of over 740 on March 3rd.  Despite their efforts, the Tigers lost the game 50-62.  Bringing their season to 14-2. The building, which housed Sm Molding, a rubber and  plastic injecting business, was a total loss. The business is owned by Steve Mumm, rural Todd County. Over 700 attend Browerville/ LPGE game
