    Dear Parish Family,

We have arrived at the final Sunday of the Church year, the Great Feast of Christ the King! We celebrate the love of our Shepherd King, whose crown is made of thorns and whose throne is the cross... Let us commit ourselves to Him as we continually strive to live more like our King who shows his uncon-ditional love for us on the altar of the cross. This weekend we have the privilege of receiving the BETHLEHEM PEACE LIGHT carried to the United States from the cave of the Nativity in Bethlehem by Austrian Scouts on Austrian Airlines and brought from Our Lady of the Skies Chapel at JFK Airport by members of our Scout Troops and their leaders. We will receive the lamp with the light from Bethlehem at the 11:00 a.m. Mass and light other lamps and candles to pass on the Light at the end of Mass. We will keep the lamp lit through Christmas Day. We pledge ourselves to BE the Light of Christ in a world darkened by violence and sin! I hope you will plan to spend even more time in Eucharistic Adoration during the coming weeks of Advent. Invite Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament to guide your thoughts, words, and actions as we journey through Advent to Christmas preparing a manger in our hearts and homes to receive Him as Lord of Light and Prince of Peace. The Giving Trees will be in place at the St. Brendan Shrine next weekend. I hope you will take a star that represents the needs of a child or mother, purchase the gift requested and re-turn it, unwrapped, with the star taped to it as soon as possible. As we prepare to begin our Advent journey, longing for Christmas, we cry out with the whole church and all of creation:

MARANATHA! COME, O CHRIST THE LORD!!! Father Peter

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! Joshua 24.15

Next weekend, December 2nd & 3rd, Advent Giving Trees will be

decorated with red and yellow stars, each one representing a gift

that you can purchase for someone special. Our response to the request for Christmas presents is eagerly being anticipated by both Rachel’s Joy Maternity Home and Hour Children. We ask you to purchase the item, affix the star to

the gift, and return it UNWRAPPED to Church placing it at the base of the Giving trees as soon

as possible. When you buy a gift for someone you do not know or may never meet, you demon-

strate the most unselfish generosity. The recipient of your gift will not be able to thank

you. The gratification of such an act is to remain anonymous. May God, who sees what is

    hidden, bless you.

    ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

We are always in need of more volunteers to spend time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration each week. We invite all adorers to sign the adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. If every-

one would come for even one half hour of adoration each week we would be able to fill our schedule. We will have adoration Monday through Saturday from 9-4 pm and Fridays till 7 pm. We believe that Eucharistic Adoration will transform the parish. Come and spend quality time with Jesus. Experience his healing presence. Remember, Jesus is waiting. Miracles happen.

Biblical Reasons for wanting to spend one hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament:

Jesus is infinitely DESERVING OF OUR UNCEASING THANKSGIVING and adoration for all He has done for our salvation. “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive honor, glory and praise.”

Reasons from the Teachings of the Church for wanting to spend one hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament:

The best time you spend on earth is with your Best Friend, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament! “How great is the value of converse with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, for there is nothing more consoling on earth, nothing more efficaious for advancing along the road to holiness!”

100th Anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Bishop Ford Over the past two years, the Diocese of Brooklyn, in collaboration with Maryknoll, has worked to advance the Cause of Canonization of Serv-ant of God Francis Xavier Ford, M.M., the first Bishop of Kaying. This

past spring, I had the privilege of presenting the Cause of Canonization for Bishop Ford to the meeting of the United States Conference of

Catholic Bishops, and received the required consent of the Bishops of the United States to pursue the Canonization of Bishop Ford. Bishop Ford was born in Brooklyn in 1892, and was baptized at Sacred Heart Church, Adelphi Street in Brooklyn. In 1912, he became the first semi-narian to enter the newly founded Catholic Foreign Missionary Society of America (Maryknoll). He was ordained to the priesthood on Decem-ber 5, 1917 and celebrated his First Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Jo-

seph’s Church, now Co-Cathedral, on Pacific Street in Brooklyn, where his image was recently placed during the renovation of the Co-

Cathedral. To mark the 100th Anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Bishop Ford, I would like to invite all of the priests, deacons, consecrat-ed religious, and lay faithful of Brooklyn and Queens to join me at his home parish, the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, on Sunday, December 3,

2017 at 3 pm as we celebrate Mass in honor of the Centennial Anniver-sary of the Priestly Ordination of Bishop Francis Xavier Ford, M.M. This celebration will be an important moment as a diocese in which we join

together to recognize the heroic legacy of Bishop Ford and pray togeth-er for his Canonization. Parishioners & friends are invited to join us.

    ST. BRENDAN’S

Join the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at the 11 am Mass this Sunday morning,

November 26th for the Reception and Passing of the Peace Light

The Peace Light from Bethlehem is a continuously-burning flame, originating from the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Israel. For several decades the International Scouting movement - both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts - have actively promoted

global peace and harmony through the distribution of the Peace Light. The Peace Light will arrive at

JFK Airport on Flight 0S87 from Vienna, Austria on Saturday, November 25, 2017. The Passing of the Peace Light Ceremony will take place at the end of Mass. If you wish to receive the Peace Light please bring a lantern, candle or other suitable container.

    AED/CPR INFORMATION SESSIONS

14 of our parishioners have taken advantage of the opportunity to learn CPR/AED skills in sessions taught by our very own, Dr. Ramiro Cadag.

These informal 3 hour sessions of lecture, video presentations, and hands-on practice with mannequins provide a basic understanding of how cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) can save the life of someone who is having a cardiac event. If you are interested in learning CPR/AED skills, please sign up at the rectory, and you will be contacted when the next session has been scheduled.

We strongly urge all parishioners to consider making use of this opportunity to learn these life-saving skills.
