A huge thank you to Mr. Leo

Ambriz, for donating the wood

and for taking time out of his

busy schedule to build our gar-

den beds. We’d also like to thank

Mr. Theodore Garza for placing

the soil in our garden beds and

to all the parent’s for their gen-

erous donations to purchase the

soil for the beds. Gardening is a

wonderful experience on many

levels and the children are very

excited to plant and follow the

progress of their garden.

Wish us luck with the green

Welcome to May! April was one fun filled month, but now it's onto May as the fun continues. T

This month we are going to be learning all about Animals! Our themes will include Let's Go to the Zoo,

Let's Go to the Farm, Dinosaurs, and Pets. I can't tell you how excited we are for all the new things we

have planned. Mother's Day Tea Party, Spring Art Show and a three day weekend all in one month, we

can't wait! We will also be having parent teacher conferences this month, dates and times will be an-

nounced as the time comes closer. So, strap on your fun hats cause here we come May!

Language and Literacy: We made it to the last letters of our Alphabet this month!, Y and Z the next

two letters we’ll be focus on. As our knowledge and recognition of our letters grows stronger we are

now able to use our writing skills to begin to trace some letters and write our names. Our books this

month include, Stop Snoring Bernard, On the Farm, My Dinosaur Adventure, and Pets, Who am I? We

will continue to focus on name recognition and making the sounds of each letter to form

our whole name.

Math: Our math skills have been coming along very well! This month our fo-

cus numbers will be 17 and 18. We have been practicing counting all the way up to number

20 and this month we will focus on writing numbers 7 and 8. Since our math skills have im-

proved we are introducing quantities. This is an important skill as it helps us understand

the concept of more vs. less.

Science and Social Studies: Since May is all about animals, we will be learning about the life cycles of

different animals and how they compare to that of a human. We will be asking questions like Are Dino-

saurs still alive?, How does a puppy grow?, and How long can animals live?, just to name a few. We will

also transform into paleontologists for our week about Dinosaurs and explore fossils and what it was

like to live when the Dinosaurs roamed our Earth.

Wow! we have a lot planned in May and I don't know about you, but I can't wait for us

to get started.

Note: Also please don't forget to check and take home your child's art at the end of

each week. Their art files are located directly next to the cubbies by the fire extin-

guisher, Thank you!

Butterflies

Mrs. Lopez & Mrs. Carlson

April was an awesome month filled with lots of learning fun. We learned so much about ani-

mals and their habitats. Our Butterflies always enjoy the hands on science experiments we

do. We really enjoyed the experiment where we learned about blubber and how it keeps po-

lar bears warm.

Our last theme of the year is called A Place to Dream. In this theme, we will learn about art,

storytelling, music, and movement. During our first week we will discuss different art forms,

and we will draw a portrait of a classmate. Our second week will focus on stories and story-

telling. The following week, we will learn about musical instruments, and try making our own.

We will learn about great composers like Bach, Aaron Copland, and John Williams. One of our

last projects of the year will be to create a puppet that looks like us! Children will use their

puppets to share with you things they have learned throughout the year.

Literature: Books we will be reading this month are: What Can We See at the Art Museum?, What's My Favorite Story?, What Do I Know About Music?, and What Do I Know About Mu-sic?. We will also read, The Cat and the Mice fable and explore what it means to have cour-

age.

Letters and Phonics: We are done with our alphabet! We will now put our knowledge to work

and practice using our letter sounds and recognition to start to sound out words. We will be

introducing sight words starting with “the”. This is all very exciting, please encourage your

child to have fun exploring letter sounds and the words they make.

Math: The Butterflies will be working on more graphing, counting and putting things in a se-

quence. We will continue to practice recognizing numbers and writing the numbers.

Hold on tight for the busy month ahead.

Thank you for all your support!!!

Mrs. Lopez and Mrs. Carlson

May is going to be a very busy month. We will have our Mother's Day Tea party celebration,

an art show, and our last teacher conferences. Please be on the look out

for more information, sign ups for these activities, and conferences.

Giraffes

Ms. Williams & Ms. Mong

This month we will be having our annual Mother’s Day Tea Celebration on May 6th

in the morning. You will receive an invite next week with the time.

We are excited to be joining the Brookfield School for their Annual Art

Show. It will be on May 19th and we will provide you with more details as the time

gets closer.

Phonics & Literacy: Our theme for May is: Change. The topics are: Changes in and Around Me,

Earth Changes, Nurturing Earth and Before and Now. Some of the books our students will be read-

ing are: Dance!, The Gift, Christina and the Frog, and the Ugly Duckling. In phonics your children

have been working on isolating the beginning, middle and ending sounds of words and are now

learning on how to put them all together to learn to read. We are also reading a new book in the

Mac and Tab series, The Tin Man. Our last few letters are Q, q, U, u, and Y, u.

Math: The students are continuing to work on learning about combining and separating sets. They

are also working with using manipulatives to help solve word problems and on learning the num-

bers from 20-30 as well as odd and even.

Science & Social Science: We’ve had the opportunity to grow caterpillars and can’t wait to watch

them grow into butterflies. Our new venture will be planting seeds to watch how the plants will

grow from a seed and watch the progress as they turn from seed to vegetables. They will also be ex-

ploring conservation and recycling, as well as how magnets work. One of our topics in social science

will be about the changes they will be meeting as the school year comes to an end and they move on

to making new friends in the upcoming school year.

Art & Music: This month the students will be singing ”Changes”,

“This is the Song That Never Ends”, “Make New Friends”, and “My

School Family”. In art we will be working on our Mother’s Day Gift,

our art show project and a Q is for Quilt project.

Our flower beds are in place, and we are ready to start planting our

fun garden! Can’t wait! We’re looking forward to seeing all our veggies

and plants grow!!!

Also this month we will be having our second conferences with parents. They should be no more

than 15 to 30 minutes, and will show the progress your children have made since the beginning

of the school year. A sign-up sheet for time slots will be going out in the next week or two, and

we will try to accommodate everyone as much as possible. The students have made great

strides so the conferences should be a wonderful time to go over their

progress.
