GERALD RATNER ATHLETICS CENTERThis 150,000-square-foot facility at 55th and Ellis, home to the varsity teams, hosts games in its 1,658-seat competition gymnasium. It also has a 50-meter x 25-yard (Olympic size) swimming pool; a fitness center with cardiovascular exercise equipment; selectorized weightlifting machines and free weights; a multipurpose dance studio; an auxiliary gymnasium; and classrooms, meeting rooms, and locker rooms, among other amenities.

HENRY CROWN FIELD HOUSEHenry Crown features an indoor track, four basketball courts, tennis courts, an archery range, and volleyball, racquetball, and squash courts.

OUTDOOR VENUESThe Stagg Field complex, with its track, eight tennis courts, softball venue, soccer fields, and football field, o!ers opportunities for varsity and intramural recreation. Additional outdoor space is available at North Field, adjacent to the Henry Crown Field House. The half-mile green and sunny Midway Plaisance is a favorite spot for intramural and pick-up sports.

Division III athletics, the University of Chicago

has long supported student athletic com-

petition. Our head coaches are University

of Chicago faculty—real educators charged

with the intellectual, emotional, physical,

and social development of their students.

They not only help athletes learn how

to jump higher and run faster, they o!er

counseling on issues ranging from course

selection to career development. Since 1995,

our coaches have been named National

Coach of the Year three times, Regional

Coach of the Year six times, and UAA

Coach of the Year 31 times.

University of Chicago students love

intramural sports and are dedicated

competitors, whether the game is Ultimate

Frisbee or innertube water polo. More than

6,100 students participate each year on

more than 525 intramural teams on campus,

including three-on-three basketball,

bowling, track, and backgammon.

Club sports also enhance the quality of

life on campus, o!ering activities to meet

the University community’s competitive,

recreational, and social needs. Club sports

are organized and administered by club

members through elected o"cers.
