Marion Mixers Offers Three Styles of Rolled Troughs

Each style of t rough has uni que benef its. The s ize o f t he trough i s selected based on t he volumetricmixing requirements and geometric limitations of the job site. The table below includes mixing capacitiesof standard mixers in both batch and continuous applications. Contact a Marion Mixer Sales Engineer forestimates on production rates per size of mixer. Twin shafted mixers are available for applications wherethe height of the mixer is a restriction.

Marion Mixers i s a cu stom fabricator manufacture. We can buil d virtually any diameter or

    length of mixer.

All three styles of troughs are available with:

o Carbon, stainless or AR400 steel.

o Removable liners made of AR400 or polyurethane.

o Mill Finish or polished surfaces.

o Integral jackets for heating or cooling.

When sizing semi-cylindrical or cylindrical style troughs, multiply the mixing capacities shown

    Below by 80% (i.e.: The mixing capacity of a 42"x120" cylindrical mixer - .80 x 100=80 cu .ft.).

SSeemmii--CCyylliinnddrriiccaallTroughs that are commonly used when processing fragile, oversized or friable ingredients suchas: whole coffee beans, fiber glass insulation or chopped vegetables. This trough design has onevertical side wal l. The t rough is rolled 60 beyond vertical on t he down sweep side. This allowsthe blade to move within close proximity of the trough before coming in contact with the materialsbeing mixed. The semi-cylindrical design is also useful when mixing pastes or slurries to reducesplashing and entrapment of air.

When heating or cooling, this style of t rough creates the largest surface area where the agitatorcan mechanically move materials past the jacketed surface.

    Steel Finishes

When specifying bul k solids handl ing and m ixer pr ocessing equi pment, p articularly for food, chemical and phar maceutical appl ications it i s necessary to determine specific sanitary finishesfor stainless steel components. Our fabricators are highl y-skilled in producing various stainlesssteel finishes cost effectively.

Depending on the m ixer application, we use stainless steel plates that provide more strength for

the components used in custom-design fabrication. The v arious finishes are referred to as hot-rolled, annealed, and pi ckled (HRAP). The plate finish does not shine like typical stainless steeland i s not s mooth t o t he t ouch with an i rregular or ange-peel or cr usty surface condition feel.Improving the finish by machining or grinding and polishing will result in 4 grades typically used inour m ixers, mill f inish, 80-grit, 120 -grit and 150 -grit. AR400 (abrasion-resistant) s teel i s millfinished. Carbon steel is mill finish with or without the welds ground smooth.

High Intensity ChoppersFor Additional High Shear Blending

High speed choppers are available for size reduction and/or

incorporation of minor ingredients, liquids or shortening.

During mixing the paddle blades continually bring material into the choppers, which are mounted

through the side of the mixer trough. The stacked knife or tulip blade cutting edges of the intensive 3600

RPM provide a variety of high-shear mixing and blending processing needs.

Choppers are often used in conjunction with paddle agitators to

reduce product size incorporate colorants or other minor ingredients disperse lumps and agglomerates break up liquid-rich shot balls open up matted fibrous materials disperse pigments

    Benefits

    Thorough mixing

: A superior product may be achieved with the combination of the chopper and

the unique time-tested paddle blade design.

    Faster mixing

: Combines process functions. Mixes and disperses in one operation which means

    higher production volume.

    Utility Cost Savings

: Save on your electric expense by using premium efficient motors and

adjustable speed drives in your processing operations.

    Reliability

Mixing blocks of solid shortening (or liquid shortening) into bakery mixes. The choppers tear upthe chunks to produce a homogenous, lump-free mix.

: Proven in use in major processing systems.

    Applications

Mixing agglomerated pigments into plastic powder. The choppers disperse the pigment anddevelop the color.

Mixing PVC resins, oily plasticizers, fillers and pigments. The choppers disperse the pigments andplasticizers and uniformly coat the particles with plasticizer to produce flexible or rigid PVC.

Mixing resin into compacted asbestos, synthetic fiber, or fiberglass. The choppers fluff andexpand the asbestos or synthetic fiber so the resin uniformly penetrates and coats the fiber

    matrix.

Mixing dry pharmaceutical preparations with thick liquid binders. The choppers break up theliquid-rich lumps and coat the particles to produce a homogenous, compatible mix.
