M.S. RAMAIAH INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (MSRIT) is a Self
Financing Institution Established In Bangalore in the year 1962
by the industrialist and philanthropist, Late Dr. M S Ramaiah.
MSRIT, as well as 17 other reputed institutions offering Medical,
Dental, Pharmacy, Hotel, and Business Management and Legal
Education are managed by the Gokula Education Foundation
(GEF). The mission statement of GEF is “To deliver education
and health for the betterment of mankind”. MSRIT has an ISO
9001:2008 certification from BVQI. All eligible Engineering
Departments offering Bachelor degree programmes have been
accredited by NBA. MSRIT is one of the few institutes with
faculty student ratio of 1: 15 and achieves excellent academic
results as indicated by the significant number of VTU ranks
bagged every year. The institute is a participant of the Technical
Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), an
initiative of the Government of India. All the departments are
full with competent faculty, over 98% of them being
postgraduates or PhD holders. Some of the distinguished
features of MSRIT are: State of the Art Laboratories, Individual
computing facility to all faculty members, Campus wide
networking connecting all 2000 systems to the net. All research
departments are active with sponsored projects and more than
130 scholars are pursuing PhD. The Centre for Advanced
Training and Continuing Education, Centre for Research and
Industrial Consultancy, and Entrepreneurship Development Cell
have been set up on campus. MSRIT has a strong Placement and
Training Department with a committed team, a fully equipped
Sports Department, Large Air-conditioned Library with over
80,000 books with subscription to more than 300 International
and National Journals. The Digital Library subscribes to several
online e-journals like IEEE, JET etc. MSRIT is a member of
DELNET, and AICTE INDEST Consortium. MSRIT has a modern
auditorium, several hi-tech conference halls, all air-conditioned
with videoconferencing facilities. It has excellent hostel facilities
for boys and girls. MSRIT Alumni have distinguished themselves
by occupying high positions in India and abroad and are in touch
with the Institute through an active Alumni Association. MSRIT
obtained Academic Autonomy for all its UG and PG programmes
in the year 2007. MSRIT celebrated its Golden Jubilee during the
academic year 2011 - 2012.
MSRIT, along with other institutions managed by the GEF, is
situated on a sprawling 85 acres campus located in the heart of
the city, and is only 7 kilometers from Bangalore City Railway
Station/Central Bus Stand and is 25 kilometers from Bangalore
International Airport.
Chemical Plant Design offers varied challenges to design
engineers. Currently hand calculations are blended with use of
several software for plant design, simulation and optimization of
chemical processes. Simulation is the quickest and most cost
effective approach to achieve process optimization.AspenONE
suite is the most widely accepted simulation tool used by
chemical process insdutry for steady state and dynamic
simulation. In reality, several organizations across the globe have
not been able to realize tangible benefits out of this approach
due to several reasons. This workshop aims at providing an
insight to applying simulation software tools for optimization of
chemical processes.
The workshop is unique in that it is application oriented and
deals with various industrial and research based case studies in
process simulation and optimization. It is also planned to
conduct hands-on practical sessions conducted by the experts
from academia and industry.
1.Tools for Flowsheet Simulation: Features of simulations tools
widely used in process industry will be discussed and case
studies from industry will be taken up by experts using these
tools.
2. Simulation of special cases in column design: Distillation using
RADFRAC column, reactive distillation, azeotropic distillation
and optimization will be discussed.
3. Simulation of petroleum refining: Case studies in downstream
processes of petroleum industry will be presented. Hands on
session in the laboratory will be conducted to provide better
insight to participants.
4. Reactor simulation: Case studies on various type of chemical
reactors will be presented. Hands on session will also be
conducted.
5.Dynamic simulation: Case studies on dynamic simulation of
processes will be discussed with laboratory sessions.
