What I most enjoyed about my time at Bellerbys was sharing my time with students from different backgrounds and the many brilliant activities like debating and taking part in football competitions. The teachers are very supportive and the library provides excellent resources for my studies. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Bellerbys. Their dedication has paid off: I have graduated to Churchill College, University of Cambridge to read Engineering.

Bellerbys introduced me to the English system of education and provided excellent quality of teaching and subjects that were relevant to my university degrees, which as a result, enabled me to get into LSE. At LSE I was one of the winners of the Merrill Lynch Challenge, which enabled me to do an Easter internship at Merrill Lynch. In my 2nd year I did a summer internship at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. After graduation I worked as an investment analyst before joining a financial PR agency.

10 – 11 | Learning technology

Learningtechnology

State-of-the-art learning technologies bring education to a new level, engaging students in new ways of learning that are both productive and effective.

TechnologyforClassroomsIn the classroom, we use interactive white boards that enable teachers to share online resources and software specifically designed for each individual subject.

Our team of Advanced Practitioners ensures that only the most effective technology is used in class, and that all our teachers are properly trained in how to make the most of the new technology. This specialist team of e-learning teachers provides training and support to their colleagues across the curriculum.

TechnologyforStudyingOur online Learning Management System, Study Smart, enables students to access learning materials at any time. Students can review their class work, listen to audio files, watch videos and make use of the materials their teachers use in class. This opportunity to consolidate their learning in an engaging online environment helps to ensure success in assessed coursework and the final exams.

I am currently studying at University of Exeter on the Business and Economics degree and I am really enjoying my course. I know that Bellerbys helped me to choose the right University for my ambitions and gave me a good start for new opportunities because Bellerbys is one of the best international schools with all required facilities for studying!

Daniya Gubaydulina, from Russia

StudySmartIndependent study skills are important for success at university and using an online Learning Management System is a key part of studying at university. When submitting assignments online, students can make use of plagiarism highlighting software to develop an understanding of the importance of independent work and of acknowledging the work of others – vital skills for successful university-level studies.

The teachers were very helpful throughout the course, humorous, supportive, encouraging and kind. They taught material in simple way, but covered everything that is needed. Extra classes that helped to improve my logical thinking, prepared for the presentations and the whole interview process at Cambridge helped prepare me for my further studies. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Bellerbys because it provided me with clear path to UK higher education.

Oxbridge & Medical Preparation

I am delighted with my results. The teachers at Bellerbys were extremely helpful and friendly, willing to go over things to ensure I always understood. Bellerbys also offers extra help for those who aim to study medicine or go to Oxbridge, I found this particularly helpful especially since application to study medicine in the UK is highly competitive. The social life is also amazing, this was one of the best decisions I've ever made!

students with 3 A* grades or

above

Students completing their maths A Level studies at Bellerbys in Brighton in 2010 scored the highest average score of any English independent school (Good Schools Guide 2010). This diagram shows the students from that cohort who achieved A* grades in both their Maths and Further Maths A Levels.

In 2010 25% of all Bellerbys A Level grades were graded A* - over three times the national average. This diagram shows Bellerbys students who graduated with at least three A* grades in their A Levels.

Bellerbys’ three-term course allowed me to bridge the gap between the UK education system, where the academic year starts in September, and Singapore, where it runs from January, without having to lose a year. The number of international students at Bellerbys creates a very cosmopolitan environment. Also, the small class sizes let you get to know your teachers and classmates very well.

Alexander WOOD from Singapore

34 – 35 | A Level a day in the life

A Levela day in the life

As a resident of Bellerbys you can enjoy a healthy breakfast on campus before you start your day. The canteen offers a range of choices to suit all diets and tastes. While there you can meet up with friends before morning registration.

Lessons are demanding but fun and you'll love the way technology, especially interactive whiteboards, is used to make classes more intesting.

When studying and learning it’s important to take regular breaks so you keep your concentration levels up. A break at 11am means that you can meet up with classmates in the common areas of the college, discuss your studies and relax over a snack.

8am 9am 11am

What I enjoy most about my time at Bellerbys is the opportunity to learn about various cultures. I love meeting people from all over the world. It makes me feel more connected to those places. Bellerbys also helps prepare me for my further studies encouraging me to try my best and believe in myself.

I would not have aimed as high if it weren’t for Bellerbys. Being here has encouraged me to demand more for myself. I would not be where I am today without Bellerbys.

Sharlene TAI from Hong Kong

Page 35: Brochure 1112

bellerbys.com

After lunch you’ll concentrate on the rest of your course work, taking part in more classes, science labs or art groups. Regular study periods are a good time to be creative and get things done.

You can study in groups, learn from Bellerbys own online learning system, Study Smart, or research your subjects in more detail in the library.

After your final study period the evening is yours. You can head out with friends before coming back to the canteen for dinner.

Winding down at the end of the day and having fun with your new friends is a very important part of life at Bellerbys. You can take part in some activities like bowling or dance class or watch a film at one of the on-campus movie nights. Of course you can always catch up on your studies and get an early night too!

When applying to university in UK the foreign student has to spend some time (usually 1 academic year) for ‘preparation’. The Diploma Programme helps foreign students to save time – it is taught in a college, therefore, it is considered as a ‘preparation’ to university, plus this programme contains subjects which are taught on the 1st year of UK universities on Business and Management specialization, so the student applies straight to the 2nd year if for the same specialization. My plan is to study hard in the centre of London, enjoy the life in London, then go to Oxford for a Masters degree and find an interesting and profitable job in a big logistic corporation like DHL or Deutsche Post.

Bellerbys College helped me to develop not only my skills but improve my knowledge in English. I will always remember my Pre-Masters course in Bellerbys College as one of the most wonderful time as a student in the United Kingdom. Bellerbys helped to prepare for my further studies by developing the study skills which all students definitely need for their postgraduate studies.

70 – 71 | Homestay

HomestayIf you want to live a relatively independent life, but still have a caring home environment, Homestay is ideal.

Homestay gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself fully in the UK culture and to feel part of a family, eating meals with them, and sharing their lives to get a real experience of British life. All Homestay accommodation is carefully chosen for the security and friendliness it provides and we make regular visits to ensure you have everything you need. We offer a choice of either single or shared rooms. All our hosts will warmly welcome you into their homes.

IncludedinallHomestayaccommodation●l Fully equipped study bedroom, including desk

and wardrobe●l Breakfast and evening meal from Monday to Friday

with a breakfast and main meal (lunch or dinner) at weekends

●l Telephone access●l Weekly laundry

HomestayPlusIf you are under 16 years of age, you will be automatically registered for Homestay Plus. (Note: Homestay is only available in London to students who are 16 years old or above).

This gives extra support and higher levels of personal supervision. A detailed care plan will be prepared for you, focusing on class, personal study and curfew times as well as dietary and medical issues. A copy of the care plan will be sent to your parents/guardians, so they know you’re in good hands. Homestay Plus gives extra pastoral care, liaising regularly with the college, and giving extra support to you when you need it.

SharingYou have an option to share your room with another student. Many students find this a very good way to ease the transition of living away from home. They often find it easier to settle in, and benefit from making friends with their new room-mate.

LocationWe aim to place you in Homestays that are as close to our centres as possible. However in some cases, this may involve some travel to the centre, usually by bus or train. This a great way to see more of the city you’re living in.

Our Student Enrolment Advisers can speak English, Cantonese, Italian, Arabic, French, Spanish, Polish, German, Russian and Farsi, so please don’t be afraid to get in touch.

Student Enrolment Advisers, 1 Billinton Way, Brighton, BN1 4LF United Kingdom

ApplythroughanagentComplete the application form enclosed and return it to your local representative.

Your application needs to include copies of all your relevant academic transcripts, certificates of English language qualifications, passport copy and references (where applicable). After carefully reviewing your application, if you are successful we will send you a formal offer of a place. Once we have received your confirmation payment, we will send you a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which is a visa requirement, together with your accommodation details (usually only sent on receipt of arrival details).

ApplyingforyourVisaYour student visa application can take some time to be processed. That’s why it’s good to plan ahead in preparation of your intended study start date.

We would advise, as a guide, that you allow up to a month for your visa application to go through. The other important thing to bear in mind is that you must have had your full first year’s fees (less fees already paid) and maintenance expenses (as outlined in your official visa guidelines) in your bank account for 28 days prior to applying for your visa.

The following table shows our suggested timings to help you ensure your visa is issued in time for the start of your course:
