The brazed lugs take on a more contemporary look with our modified 20mm handmade leather strap. The new watches measure 42mm across, 49mm high including the lugs with an overall case depth of 10.5mm. The dial utilises polished numbers taking influence directly from 1920’s era watches with a beautifully etched guilloché centre pattern.

The new watches have been modernised with the “casino chip” enamel screw down back, signature red aluminium crown embossed our brand’s iconic trademark and a Swiss Made Ronda 513S Quartz or Citizen 9015 Automatic movement. Each collection has been designed and built in Britain exclusively by W. T. Author and is strictly limited to 125 limited edition pieces(‘No. 1929’ automatic black edition is limited to only 100 pieces).

Dedicated to the memory of the patient teacher Wynn Phillips and the loving grandfather Thomas Hall, both have their initials etched into the very fabric of time, forever.

At 13:00 Friday 13th September 2013 we launched a collection of independent British watches, the likes of which had never been seen before; the result of countless meetings at local coffee houses under Birmingham’s prestigious School of Horology. Discussing our love of fine watches, it soon dawned on us exactly how our friendship and passion for design could be directed into manufacturing a collection of our very own. And so begins our brand story…

Master watchmaker Wynn Thomas (W. T.) Author. This single spark has led to an incredible adventure for two friends that has seen the creation of a timeless brand. Spawned from the art of storytelling and combining products built in Britain with bespoke design, the next thirteen years would see the release of one unique watch every year to create a collection that spans the history of the timepiece.

It is clear to everyone that the market is overcrowded by overpriced lookalikes, with very little or no ambition placed into genuinely introducing something new. Today’s watch industry completely lacks personality and so we decided to bring a certain romance back to the iconic accessory. We encompass each limited edition product with a unique character that is totally individual to the brand.

‘No. 1905’ British watches for men draw inspiration from the turn of the 20th Century: a time when the first wristwatches for men were introduced by Louis Cartier and Edmond Jaegar. Taking inspiration from traditional aesthetics of the pocket watch, it reflects pioneering achievements of the era with signature shoulders brazed directly into the bespoke case, allowing a raw cut hand-made leather strap to be fitted.

The watches measure 46mm across, 52mm high including the lugs, with a case depth of 11mm. The dial utilises numbers taken directly from 1900’s pocket watches and is enhanced with Author’s unique hour markers. Traditionally formed custom hands complete the dial. The watches have been modernised with a beautiful enamel screw down case back, the signature red crown embossed with W. T. Author’s ‘A’ trademark and a Swiss made Ronda 513S Quartz movement.

Set nine years after our debut collection, ‘No. 1914’ trench watches draw inspiration from World War One: an era where intensified warfare made digging about in one’s pocket for a watch far too time-consuming, and so the trench wristwatch was introduced. Developing the aesthetics of the pocket watch even further into the realms of the modern wristwatch, the signature brazed lugs have been shifted to extend directly from the side of the bespoke case.

The trench watch case measures 46mm across, 52.5mm high including the lugs with an overall case depth of 10mm. The dial utilises numbers taking influence directly from 1914 trench watches and is enhanced with our unique “tuning fork” indices. Traditionally formed custom-made hands with tonal colour infill, complete the dial. The watch has been modernised with a beautiful “casino chip” enamel screw down back, a signature red crown.

PRESSFEATURES & ARTICLES

Page 13: British Watches for Men Built in Britain by W.T. Author UK

W. T. Author has received some fantastic press:

“The W. T. Author ‘No. 1905’ watches are gorgeous. The throwback features like a ribbed case, wire lugs, tapered crown and riveted leather strap make us feel connected to a past we only ever hear about in stories.”

The Awesomer

“It’s the sort of watch you’d hope to find on the wrist of a Victorian engineer. The indices have a classical, almost mathematical feel. There’s a big red crown, which is actually shaped like a crown. The shapely lugs are brazed into the case, which - viewed side-on - resembles the cooling ribs of an engine block.”

Top Gear Magazine

“You are getting unique styling, as well as a representation of an era of watches that does not often get much consideration these days. As far as “old school” homages go, this is an excellent example in my estimation, and it certainly makes me curious about the next edition that they will be producing.”
