    Wha pcs ae ea?The standard covers themajority o existing medium screw base incandescent light bulbs. The

    light bulbs covered by the regulation:

    a. have a lumen output o at least 250 lumens but no greater than 2600

    lumens (Note: equivalent to 40, 60, 75 and 100 watt lamps)

    b. have a nominal voltage or voltage range that lies at least partially

    between 100 and 130 volts

    c. are screw basedNote: Modied spectrum lamps are also included in this regulation. They are

    required to meet an ecacy o 75% o the ecacy level o a reerence standardspectrum lamp.

    Ae c me b Cls ae he eecveae? No. The regulation sets an eciency standard (lumens/watt) orcommonly-used light bulbs. With current product availability, the standard

    can be met by compact uorescent lamps (CFL), halogen inrared lamps

    (HIR) and in some applications, light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs.

    In the uture, i a lighting manuacturer produces an incandescent light

    bulb that meets the eciency standard, it will comply with the provincial

    regulation.

    (Note: the expression: ln (lumen output) means the natural logarithm o the

    lumen output o the lamp)

    the ollowing dates: 75 a 100 wa h bbs: January 1, 2011

    40 a 60 wa h bbs: December 31, 2012.

    Ae hee a exemps hs ea?Incandescent lamps o 25 and 150 W are exempt rom the regulation,

    as they currently only represent approximately 2% o total sales.

    Wh eces hs ea?The Ministry o Energy, Mines andPetroleum Resources is responsible or enorcing all regulated standardsunder the EEA.

    Wha ae he peaes cmpace?Under the EEA, theMinistry can conduct inspections to veriy compliance with theActand

    regulations. Ministry sta ollows up on all complaints and other inormation

    respecting non-compliance. The Ministry can also seek to have those who

    have contravened the legislation charged under the Ofence Act. An oence

    can result in fnes up to $2,000.
