    BrightStor ARCserve Backup ManagerUse the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Manager to perform tasks such as submitting backup and

    restore jobs, managing your database, and searching reports.

    BrightStor ARCserve Backup ServerIt constitute 3 major components :

    1) Job Engine

    2) Tape Engine

    3) Database Engine

    Manager components

    Job Status Manager

    Monitors all pending, completed, and active jobs from the Job Status Manager window. Youcan schedule pending or completed jobs,

    submit new jobs, delete jobs, and stop active jobs.

    Backup Manager

    Backs up data to media. You can schedule and configure backups of your machines andservers.

    Restore Manager

    Restores data that has already been backed up by BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

    Media Pool Manager

    Manages, creates, and maintains logical groupings of media for easy identification of backups, to allowefficient scheduling of the maintenance and recycling of your media.

    DeviceManager

    Displays information about your storage devices and media. It also allows you to change adrives compression mode, and perform media functions such as compression, formatting,erasing, ejecting, and retensioning.

    DatabaseM

    anagerDisplays information from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database, such as the jobsprocessed by BrightStor ARCserve Backup, the media used by BrightStor ARCserveBackup, and the devices you are using with BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

    Manager components (Cont.)

    Report Manager

    Generates reports from data in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database. Various reportsinclude information about backup schedules, media errors, backup devices, media pools,and media status and policies.

    Server AdminAllows you to modify the BrightStor ARCserve Backup system account and manage thecore BrightStor ARCserve Backup services: Job Engine, Tape Engine, and DatabaseEngine. The Database Engine tab allows you to configure the database pruning job.

    Alert ManagerSends messages to people in your organization, using various methods ofcommunication, regarding events that occur during the functioning ofBrightStorARCserve Backup.

    Useful Utilities MergeUtility

    Use the Merge Utility option when you want to restore detailed session information inyourBrightStor ARCserve Backup database.

    Scan Utility

    Use the Scan Utility option when you need information about your media backupsessions. Each source that you choose to back up is saved on media as an individualsession.

    Compare Utility

    Compare the contents of a media session to files on a machine. Results of the Comparejob can be seen in the Job Queue.

    CountUtility

    Count the number of files and directories on a machine.

    CopyUtility

    Allows you to copy files from one location to another. For example, you can runa copy job on your local machine to store files and directories on anothermachine that is going to be backed up to media.

    PurgeUtility

    Allows you to delete files and directories from a machine.

    Managing Devices and Media

    The Device Manager

    This manager gives you information about storage devices connected to your system, themedia in these devices, and the status of these devices. It is the starting point for all mediaand device monitoring and maintenance operations.

    The Media Pool Manager

    This manager lets you create, modify, delete, and manage media pools to help you organizeand protect your media.

    Media Pools

    A media pool is a collection of media managed as a unit. Each media pool isassigned a name and the media are organized according to serial numbers. Theassigned serial numbers are permanent and if you are using a device with abarcode reader, the barcode labels are used for the serial number of the media.The media pools are organized by the range of serial numbers of the media theycontain and are divided into two sets, the Save Set and the Scratch Set.
