I am proud to announce the creation of the Junior League of

Youngstown Scholarship Fund through the Youngstown State

University Foundation. The scholarship will be awarded to a

female in the tri-county area with a GPA of 3.0 or better who is

making a difference in their community by volunteering. The first

scholarship will be awarded for the Fall 2017 Semester. YSU has

many scholarships so help them promote ours by recommending

that someone you know apply for the scholarship thru the YSU

foundation. This is a great way to give back to the community

and promote the Junior League.

Thank you to all the volunteers at the United Way’s Success After 6

program at the Youngstown Community School. The United Way

also received the fitness equipment that you donated.

May is a busy month with the Kentucky Derby Party, Annual

Dinner and the transition to the new leaders of the JLY. Please

take a moment to remember your accomplishment this year.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as President. It has

truly been an enriching experience.

Provisional Class Project

Volunteer Request,

Paige Rassega Provi-

sional Class Members

THE INFORMATION BELOW WAS RESPECTFULLY CAPTURED

FROM THE PROVISIONAL CLASS PROPOSAL.

Success After 6 runs after-school at the Youngstown Communi-

ty School (50 Essex Street Youngstown, OH 44502) on Mondays-

Thursdays from 3:15-6:00 pm. Success After 6 after-school pro-

gram starts at 3:15 with a snack in Cafeteria. Each group has a

rotation of 3 that focuses on Homework/Tutoring, Enrich-

ment, and Physical Play. The times for each session are: 3:45-

4:20 pm, 4:25-4:55 pm, and 5:00-5:30 pm. Dinner is served be-

tween 5:25-5:45 pm. Volunteers are primarily stationed in

groups during the homework/tutoring sessions so they are able

to help more students academically. Some volunteers come

in and read or do projects with the students during enrichment

times as well.

The provisional class will be working with Success After Six. They

want to spend as much time volunteering and will be individu-

ally taking a week for one month. They will spend their time

helping with the meal, helping with homework, or putting to-

gether an activity for their free time. They will also arrange to

bring in speakers to talk to the kids about topics such as “say

no to drugs.”

Their group has opened up the volunteer portion of this plan to

the Junior League as a whole. They ask that anyone interested

in signing up for a volunteer shift coordinate it through the pro-

visional class (consult Lindsey Bickerstaff).

Donations were graciously accepted at

the Tuesday, April 12, 2016 GMM of gross

motor manipulatives (playground balls,

jump ropes, etc.) for use with the Suc-
