JDP – What it stands forJDP - Journalism Development Programme
is being implemented by Development Communications (DevComs) Network.
It is supported by the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN)
The first phase of the programme was implemented from 2010-2011 to support Nigeria’s education sector development and growth through a constructive media engagement and support

Objective
1. Support the development of the media in addressing issues such as expenditure/budget tracking, Whole School Development and community involvement.
2. Build capacity of media professionals through strategic trainings and technical support

Purpose
To contribute to informing the public of their rights, responsibilities and roles to securing a better quality education for all Nigerian
To draw public attention and appreciation to the importance of good quality education
To empower the Nigerian society to make informed choices about their (and especially their offspring’s) educational decisions.

2. Sensitization - sensitization of 167 journalists and
representatives from CSOs carried out in Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Abuja, Jigawa, Ilorin and Enugu
3. Call for ApplicationsJDP 2 called for application from journalists who were
willing to report education at community level/state level, in order to create awareness on rights and responsibilities, raising community voices, and make authorities more responsive and accountable.

4. State capacity building A 3-day Capacity Building will be held in two states: Lagos and Kaduna
Lagos: 21 journalists (7 from each state) from Enugu, Kwara and Lagos (concluded)
Kaduna: 28 journalists (7 from each state) from Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa (ongoing)
Timeline: October 16-18, 2012 October 30 – November 1, 2012

5. CSO/Media Forum
Participants shall be drawn from various CSOs working in the education sector and media practitioners

6. Performance Review This involves stage precedes the National
Capacity Building, involves assessment of produced reports.

7. Two days National Capacity Building in Abuja
The 21 participants shall include 3 journalists drawn from each of the six states including the FCT

8. Mentoring:
The participants will undertake further assignments with support from ESSPIN and partners to generate in-depth features / articles on a chosen education topic related to the ESSPIN programme.

and FCT as well as nation wide shall be awarded certificates of recognition and rewarded accordingly
