Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA)

To ensure a bright future for ASHRAE and the industry, the Young Engineers

in ASHRAE (YEA) Committee was developed to create programs and develop

a path for our young professional members. Any current ASHRAE Affiliate,

Associate or Member who is 35 years of age or younger is considered a YEA

member, and automatically has a wide variety of programs, events, and

opportunities at their fingertips!

What is YEA?

Programs for YEA

YEA Technical Weekend

YEA Technical Weekend is an opportunity for YEA members to come together

for a weekend of energy management courses, technical tours, and

networking. In 2017, This event will be held from March 24 to 26, 2017 in

Atlanta, GA

YEA Leadership Weekend

YEA Leadership Weekend is an opportunity for you—the future leaders of

ASHRAE—to learn more about Society, develop soft skills and network with

other young professionals. The Spring 2017 YEA Leadership Weekend will be

held in Denver, CO from March 3-5, 2017.

New Face of Engineering

The New Faces of Engineering recognition program, introduced by ASHRAE in

2003, is part of National Engineers Week — sponsored by DiscoveryE (formerly

known as the National Engineers Week Foundation)—a coalition of engineering

societies, major corporations and government agencies. Engineers Week

promotes New Faces to provide incentive to those in college and inspire even

younger students to consider engineering careers.

Leadership U

Through Leadership U (offered by the YEA Institute), a handful of YEA

members are selected for each conference to be matched up with Society

Officers and participate in all of their events and board meetings, including

social activities. Leadership U not only allows YEA to experience a conference

like an Officer, but it is also a great opportunity to network and form

connections with those active in ASHRAE.

YEA Award Of Individual Excellence

This award is given to individuals who promotes and participates in YEA at the

chapter, regional and/or Society level and make a profound difference in the

involvement and number of YEA members.

YEA Leadership International

This event is an opportunity for you – the future leaders of ASHRAE – to learn

more about Society, develop soft skills, and network with other young

professionals. Any YEA member is encouraged to register.

YEA Scholarship for HVAC Design Essentials Training

ASHRAE Learning Institute, the HVAC Design Essentials Training allows

attendees to gain the fundamentals and technical aspects to design, install

and maintain HVAC systems.

To encourage attendance by young professional ASHRAE members, the YEA

Institute offers one full scholarship for attendance to the HVAC Design: Level I

– Essentials training. The full cost of registration to Level I of this workshop is

covered by ASHRAE. Any additional costs, such as airfare or hotel, are not

covered by this scholarship.

SmartStart Program

It's the best way for ASHRAE student members to receive the many benefits of

Associate grade membership after finishing college. SmartStart is a 3-year

program that allows Student members to transfer to Associate grade

membership at a rate that is recent-graduate friendly.

ASHRAE Region LeaDRS Program

LeaDRS is an ASHRAE regional program that encourages the development of

future regional and Society leaders. Similar to YEA’s Leadership U program,

the LeaDRS program allows a Region to select an ASHRAE member to shadow

their Director and Regional Chair (DRC) at an ASHRAE conference. The

LeaDRS program is open to all ASHRAE members (it is not restricted to YEA

members). The LeaDRS program is run, funded, and administered by each

Region.
