Our work

Roads and Maritime Services is building a new interchange at Bringelly, to the east of the existing intersection with Bringelly Road and Greendale Road. When the interchange is complete motorists on The Northern Road will travel underneath Bringelly Road.

To build the bridge deck, over 100 workers will pour 2,600 cubic metres of concrete over 24 hours. This will be the largest, continuous pour of concrete ever carried out on a Roads and Maritime project. Concrete will be supplied by local manufacturers.

Once the deck is complete, we will construct the bridge barriers, footpath and safety rails and excavate to build retaining walls underneath the bridge. The new interchange is expected to open to traffic in 2020.

Types of equipment to be used:

• Concrete pumps • Agitator trucks • Cranes • Concrete vibrators • Backhoe • Fuel and water carts • Grader • Lighting towers

Our schedule

To minimise the impact on motorists, the work will take place between 8pm Friday 11 January to 8am Sunday 13 January, weather permitting.

How will the work affect you?

Our work may be noisy at times but we will do everything we can to minimise its impact. There will be an increase of vehicle movements on local roads to supply concrete and other materials for the work.

Viewing platform

You are invited to watch this unique construction event from 9am to 4pm on Saturday 12 January. A platform will be set up above the bridge deck for visitors to watch the huge volume of concrete being poured into the new bridge. The location of the viewing platform is shown in the map. The location of the viewing platform is shown in the map provided and we will direct visitors to the platform from the parking area at Bringelly Village Shops, 1197 The Northern Road, Bringelly.

Traffic changes

A temporary traffic detour will be in place during the work. Motorists travelling west on Bringelly Road to The Northern Road will turn left at Jersey Road and right at Carrington Road.
