Bridging the TEL gap "TEL is used to describe the application of information and communication technologies to teaching and learning" (Kirkwood, 2013) PURPOSE :- To use new methods of TEL in the classroom To challenge the students To challenge myself with different teaching methods To meet learning needs through VARK AIM :- The aim was to introduce a new TEL tool to the class. I wanted to build confidence in the students in the use of new technology. Lastly I wanted to ensure stimulus variation within my lesson. TEL Trial Giving Everyone A Voice The TEL tool I used was Today's Meet which is a blogging platform allowing all students to interact in a discussion. I introduced this via a live presentation and encouraged all students to participate in answering questions. CHALLENGES :- Can't stop the students logging back in later Need to ensure all students participate Students can easily go off topic System can be abused if students are immature RESULTS :- It proved to be an excellent learning and assessment tool which was learner centred. Student Feedback "Today's Meet was so good, I enjoyed myself" "Today's Meet was helpful and interesting" "fun to blog with everybody" FUTURE :- Give the students a timescale for the activity so they don't get carried away Upgrade the package so that the rooms can be locked Have more questions planned Stimulus Variation Engaging Communication Skills Satisfaction Hassle Free Easy Development Modern Enjoyment Interaction Motivation Learning BENEFITS
