Brianna Gallagher Writing for BroadcastNews Story National3-26-15Arizona Senate Bill 1445 is on the way to Governor Doug Ducey's desk. The controversial bill would conceal the identities of police officers involved in shootings for 60 days. The Arizona State Senate passed the bill on a 20-8 vote on Tuesday. Senator Steve Smith, who proposed the bill, says the intent of the bill is to protect officers during investigations. However some people are crying foul, including Senator Ed Ableser. "BY ADDING THIS LANGUAGE WE ARE ADDING A CLOUD OF SUSPICION TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY WANT." Recent events in Ferguson, Missouri and Staten Island have led a national discussion of police ethics and transparency. "...WE NEED TO HAVE THAT ABILITY TO INVESTIGATE, TO SHED LIGHT ON THAT MOST HEINOUS OF ACTIONS, WHICH IS TAKING OF LIFE IN PURE GOVERNMENT FORCE."
