Zoophonics is an interactive E Learningapplication aimed at improving children’svocabulary and reading skills through synthetic phonics based learning. The application was created as part of my Final Year Project in Multimedia Programming & Design at LIT.

JAVA, XML and Web technologies are employed to communicate with a richly illustrated Adobe Flash game and dynamically create word based puzzles within the game. The game itself is constructed using Object Orientated ActionScript 3.0

Zoophonics

The premise of the game is that one of the animals has stolen all the words and hidden the words throughout the seven levels of the Zoo. The player must solve a series of pho-nics based puzzles on each level that allows them to unlock the next level on the map and progress through the game.

Each level takes place in a different part of the Zoo where a different animal guides the player through the puzzles for that level. Each level uses a mixture of audio and visual clues to assist the player in solving the puzzles.

Zoophonics Flash Game

Zoophonics features an online supporting website created using HTML 5 & CSS3, that allows administrators to login to their accounts and select a range of words loaded from the database and create an XML file which loads the words into the Zoophonics Flash game embedded in the site.

The site also includes a login section whereusers can access and edit their own profiles, create customised avatars select a list of words from the puzzle table to dynamically load into the Zoophonics game.

The functionality for the site was created using JAVA and Model View Architecture in order to add, update and retrieve data from a database. The Adobe Flash game is embed-ded in the website and is only accessible once a user has logged in to their user profile.

The ELAB Project was a 3rd Year college assignment, that involved the creation of an online booking system that allowed students to create user accounts and login in to request equipment online. Lectures could access admin accounts and either approve or cancel a student’s request.

The lecturers divided the class into three different de-velopment teams each with five students per team. I was appointed the role of Project Manager for my team . As Project Manager I was responsible for assigning tasks to each team member, planning the development strategy and creating a development timeframe , liaising with our lecturer who acted in the role of client and project supervisor, ensuring that all work was delivered on time and to the highest possible standard .

As well as my role of Project Manager I was also lead designer on the project and was responsible for creating the user interface for the Admin and Student accounts. as well as playing a key role in the development stage of the project.

03 | ELAB Project

In 2011 I completed a 6 month contract with Alison, an E learning company based in Galway. I was responsible for creating highly detailed vector graphics for an elearning application commissioned by one of Alison’s largest clients.

The role required the ability to create a large volume of graphics on a daily basis as quickly and efficiently as possible while meeting the exact specifciations outlined in the brief.
