2. Share a favorite picture book (if you have time)
3. “All About Me” (if you have time)
Passages Begin two grade levels behind the
students’ grade level in school Uncover the story and have the
student read the passage out loud. Follow along but DO NOT help the student with any words.
After the student is finished reading the passage to you, cover or remove the passage.
Ask the questions.
Questions (comprehension is our goal in this part) Record student responses Use a “+” to indicate a correct answer. Use a “-” to indicate an incorrect answer. Use a “1/2” to indicate the answer is partially
correct. Use “DK”, if the child says “don’t know”. Indicate the student’s responses by either circling
the response or writing in the margin. EACH question needs to be asked and answered. Record the number of questions missed in the
box marked Questions Missed. If the number missed is at the Frustration level
(missed 5 or more questions), STOP. Otherwise KEEP GOING until the child does miss 4 or more questions!
Post BRI. Only passages are given, no word
lists. Start at the passage where you
stopped on the Pre-BRI. Continue with passages until student
misses 4 or more comprehension questions.
