Breeding for resistance to CBB is complex

Seed borne

- Quantitative inheritance - Sources of resistance are unadapted - combining resistance sources is necessary for moderate control

- Different resistance genes in leaf, pod, seed

Future considerations

• A combination of phenotypic and MAS is a useful approach for improving resistance to CBB

• PI 207262 resistance should be analyzed separately for unique

QTL on Pv07 and marker developed.

• VAX lines may have Pv07 QTL? Use RILs absent SAP6, SU91, and Xa11.4 leaving just Pv07 QTL segregating.

• Need to further validate Xa11.4 QTL and develop marker (in progress)

• Coordination of efforts – sharing of resistant breeding lines?
