PREVIOUSLY ON BREAKING BAD
This episode takes place one week after the season 4 finale
and serves as the season 5 premiere. The events that unfold
would serve as future plot lines to be explored and resolved
throughout the 5th and final season. As of now, authorities
are finishing up their investigation into the explosion at
the nursing home that killed Gus. Police have also
discovered the industrial methamphetamine lab underneath
Gus’s laundromat after Walt and Jesse burned the building to
the ground at the end of season 4. Jesse is still in the
dark about Walt using the "Lily of the Valley" plant to
poison Brock, who at this point has almost made a full
recovery. Skyler has been made aware of Ted Beneke’s
accident that happened while Saul’s henchmen were pressuring
Ted to pay off his debts to the IRS. Skyler is hoping that
things will settle back to the way the were before Walt was
mixed up with Gus and Jesse, but even in this time of peace
Walt still remains distant from his family.

INT. AIRPORT SECURITY LINE - DAY - D/1 1
The terminal is filled with the droning chatter of those
flying that day. An announcement over the intercom in French
states the newest baggage warnings and security measures.
INTERCOM
(In French)
All passengers, please keep an eye
on personal belongings throughout
the security process. If you see a
suspicious piece of luggage...
A Caucasian man, 40’s, waits in line for security. He takes
a deep breath before placing his bag through the scanner.
Those behind the desk casually wave for him to step forward
as a security official waves a wand over the man’s body.
A nearby dog being held by a another officer barks loudly.
The officer gives the leash a firm yank to shut it up.
Finally the officer waves for him to take his things and
move on. He man grabs his duffel bag from the scanner and
darts for the terminals.
INT. AIRPORT TERMINAL HALLWAY - DAY - D/1 2
He speeds down a corridor dodging other passengers. One
individual, not looking where he’s going, knocks into him.
A twinge of pain lights up his face as his side cramps up.
Before the other passenger can apologize, he looks at his
watch, and picks up his pace despite the cramp.
INT. AIRPORT TERMINAL - DAY - D/1 3
He arrives at his gate drenched in sweat. He holds his side
and grits his teeth to help bear the pain.
The gate attendants make a last call for passengers.
He coughs into his sleeve and shows his ticket. He walks
down the small, cramped corridor leading to the plane.
3.
INT. AIRPORT BOARDING RAMP/HALLWAY - DAY - D/1 4
The man sways back and forth as he walks down the ramp. He
grabs the wall to balance himself while trudging onward
His face drained of color, He coughs violently and tries to
catch his breath.
The plane’s engine gets louder with each step he takes,
until it’s almost deafening when he reaches the door.
INT. AIRPLANE - DAY - D/1 5
He stumbles down the aisle knocking into annoyed passengers
before collapsing into his seat.
Those on his row look concerned. One leans over to speak.
PASSENGER #1
(In French)
Are you okay? Would you like some
of my water?
The passenger offers the man his bottle of water. The man
now gasping for air, nods and takes the bottle.
The man takes two huge swallows. He clutches his lower
stomach as his body shudders. He vomits the liquid back out.
The passengers around him recoil in horror. One offers him
an air sickness bag. The man is in too much pain to notice.
Between gags the man coughs up some discolored bile and
saliva. He throws his head back, squeezes his eyes shut and
screams in agony.
A passenger stands up and calls down the aisle. A female
flight attendant stands in shock watching the man suffer.
The passenger yells again, urgently tapping his chest.
PASSENGER #2
(In French)
He’s having a heart attack! He
needs help now!
The attendant snaps to and digs out a defibrillator kit from
a compartment. The passengers shout in concern as she
motions for them to back away.
The man’s movements slow. His eyes roll back into his head.
4.
Two passengers hoist the man up as drool trickles from his
lips. They lay him down in the aisle.
The flight attendant checks for a pulse. Nothing.
She takes a pair of scissors and cuts open his shirt. She
hastily attaches the nodes.
CLEAR!
Electricity surges through the body, but he doesn’t respond.
CLEAR!
The body twitches, but still no good,. As she continues to
activate it over and over, we slowly ZOOM on the man’s face.

INT. MORGUE - NIGHT - N/1 6
The expression on the man’s face remains the same. Suddenly
a blanket is pulled up over his head.
A police officer backs away from an autopsy in progress and
leans against the wall.
Two doctors peer inside the man’s now open torso.
POLICE OFFICER
(In French)
So we know he was smuggling?
DOCTOR #1
(In French)
There’s no question about that. The
radiography picked up several
satchels in his stomach.
POLICE OFFICER
(In French)
One of the packages burst inside of
him?
DOCTOR #2
(In French)
Yes. He was very unlucky.
DOCTOR #1
(In French)
They’re still doing the blood work
to find out the substance along

DOCTOR #1 (cont’d)with the estimated amount he was
trying to traffic before

way is faster.
The doctor digs in with his scalpel. The stomach churning
sounds of flesh cutting and organs being pushed aside almost
gets the better of the police officer who has to look away.
DOCTOR #1 (CONT.)
(In French)
Here.
The doctor carefully holds up one of the clear packages and
smears the blood off of it.
The officer moves towards the table intrigued. They hold it
up to the light, but what they see can’t be right...
POLICE OFFICER
(In French)
It’s-- I think it’s
Methamphetamine.
The doctor slides out one of the shards that gleams bright
blue under the operating table’s lights.
DOCTOR #2
(In French)
Why is it blue?

EXT. HOSPITAL - DAY - D/2 7
JESSE sits in his car. He looks to the building’s front
doors. He drums his fingers against the steering wheel.
His girlfriend ANDREA emerges with BROCK from the hospital.
Brock, confined to a wheelchair, is pushed be a nurse.
Once they stop, Andrea takes him by the hand and helps him
to his feet.
A smile spreads across Jesse’s face. For the first time in a
long time it looks as if he’s genuinely happy.
6.
Andrea points him out to Brock. Brock waves as they make
their way to Jesse’s car. Jesse extends his fingers on the
wheel, waving back.
He unlocks the door and starts to clear the passenger’s seat
of burger wrappers and other garbage.
Jesse’s cell phone begins to ring.
He digs it out of his pocket to take a look. It’s Mr. White.
Jesse’s face turns more serious. He looks up towards Andrea
and Brock who are still walking towards the car.
He quickly opens the phone to talk.
JESSE
What?
WALT (O.S.)
We need to meet.
JESSE
Yo, I told you I’m getting Andrea
and Brock from the hospital today,
I don’t have time to meet.
WALT (O.S.)
Make time.
JESSE
I’m not talkin to you about this
shit right now. You’re goin’ to
have to wait.
WALT (O.S.)
Jesse don’t-
JESSE
(interrupting)
No.
WALT (O.S.)
(snapping back)
I may wait for you Jesse, but our
problems won’t. If you want them to
come looking for you, they will.
And at that point it won’t matter
where you are or who you’re with
when they find you.
Jesse looks up to Andrea and Brock as they open the door. He
tries to swallow his frustration so they won’t pick up on
the tone of his conversation.
7.
ANDREA
I can’t thank you enough for this.
Jesse forces a smile towards her.
JESSE
Fine. Where?
WALT (O.S.)
The car wash.
JESSE
You serious?
WALT (O.S.)
It’s closed today.
He glances at Andrea who buckles Brock into the back seat.
JESSE
I don’t think it’s a good idea
to... poop where you eat.
Andrea looks up slightly confused.
WALT (O.S.)
It’ll be fine. Just get here as
soon as you can.
JESSE
Alright. Whatever. I’ll see you
there.
Jesse hangs up the phone and tries to force a pleasant
demeanor, however Andrea reads him easily.
ANDREA
Is everything alright? Who were you
talking to?
JESSE
It’s a friend. He says he needs to
talk to me or something.
ANDREA
Well, if you want to drop us off
and go see him that’s okay.
JESSE
(looking into her eyes)
Yeah, except I don’t want to.
There’s a beat. Andrea looks concerned. Jesse decides to
stop the conversation here.
8.
JESSE (CONT.)
I’d rather be spending the day with
you guys.
Jesse looks to Brock in the back seat who busies himself by
kicking the seat in front of him. Andrea smiles warmly.
ANDREA.
Come by my house after you see your
friend. We can sit down and have
dinner together. It’ll be nice.
You’re just a wanted man Jesse.
Jesse freezes at the coincidental accuracy of her remark.
ANDREA (CONT.)
I’ll take you when I can get you.
Andrea leans in and kisses Jesse softly.
Jesse comes to his senses during the kiss. He smiles and
starts the engine.
As Jesse pulls away he notices a white sedan parked nearby.
Inside a young disheveled man stares coldly at him.
Their gazes lock as Jesse pulls away. A sickening grin
slowly creeps onto the strangers face.
EXT. FUNERAL HOME - DAY - D/2 8
SKYLER, wearing all black and liberal amounts make up, holds
HOLLY in one arm and a wreath of lilies in the other.
WALTER JR. keeps pace on crutches beside her. They walk
through the parking lot making their way to the funeral
home’s entrance.
WALTER JR.
How do we know him again?
SKYLER
His name is Ted Beneke. I worked
for him.
WALTER JR.
Oh. How did he die?
SKYLER
There was was an accident.
9.
WALTER JR.
Shouldn’t Dad be here too?
SKYLER
No.
A man opens the door for them.
SKYLER (CONT.)
We won’t be long.
INT. FUNERAL HOME - DAY - D/2 9
They step inside and make their way down an open corridor.
They turn into one of the rooms. A group of mourner’s
including some of Skyler’s former coworkers talk amongst
themselves.
She hands Holly to Walter Jr. and begins to walk to the
coffin. Unsure what to do, Walter Jr. sits in a nearby empty
chair.
Skyler approaches the coffin. It’s closed. An attendant
approaches.
ATTENDANT
Those closest to the body wished
the casket to remain closed. That
your last thoughts of him be as was
in life.
The attendant leaves her. Skyler looks up to a collage of
photographs pinned together as a wreath behind the coffin.
There’s one of her and Ted from many years ago when they
worked together for the first time.
FLASHBACK TO:
INT. SAUL GOODMAN’S OFFICE - DAY - 5 DAYS AGO 10
Skyler stands across from SAUL’S desk. She’s utterly
shocked. She stares into the distance lost in thought. Saul
stands nearby with a grim face.
SAUL
An act of God.
Skyler looks to Saul.
10.
SAUL (CONT.)
That’s what I was told at least.
SKYLER
He’s dead.
SAUL
But the good news is that the check
to the IRS did get sent off... so
that particular glass is half full.
SKYLER
Ted Beneke is dead.
SAUL
Skyler, as a lawyer that’s
represented many a individual whose
suffered from various horrendous
accidents, you gotta believe me
when I say that things like this
just happen from time to time. It
could have been a car crash, or a
random heart attack, but this time
he just happened to trip on a rug
and break his neck.
SKYLER
It’s my fault. I pulled him into
this...
SAUL
No. No, no, no. It is NOT your
fault. You know whose fault it is?
Huell and Kuby’s. You hear that
Huell!?
HUELL stands outside guarding the door. He hears Saul call
his name but hardly pays him any mind.
SAUL (CONT.)
You’re gonna get it buddy!
Saul turns back to Skyler.
SAUL (CONT.)
But the important thing is Skyler,
that we keep our cool and we act
like everything is normal.
SKYLER
What do we have to do?
11.
SAUL
Just a little upkeep. You’re going
to go to his wake in a few days.
Shed a few tears, drop off a wreath
or something. Pay your respects.
After that, you call your coworkers
and check up on them every so
often. Just mourn. Can you do that?
Skyler looks down at her hands she realizes they’re shaking.
She looks back to Saul.
SKYLER
Yes.
END FLASHBACK:
INT. FUNERAL HOME - DAY - D/2 11
Skyler looks down to her wreath of lilies. She gently puts
them down in front of the coffin.
She returns to Walter Jr. and takes Holly.
SKYLER
I just need to talk to a few people
and then we’ll go.
WALTER JR.
Can we go see dad at the car wash?
SKYLER
If we have time.
WALTER JR.
You mean if HE has time.
SKYLER
He’s just been busy. We’ll see him
tonight. Okay?
WALTER JR.
I’m seeing dead guys I don’t even
know more than I’m seeing dad.
SKYLER
Tonight.
Skyler turns to go mingle with some of her old coworkers
while Walter Jr. smolders in the chair.
12.
INT. SCHRADER HOUSEHOLD LIVING ROOM - DAY- D/2 12
Sound from the TV in the living room fills the house. A
reporter talks at a news desk while HANK watches from the
couch.
On his lap is a folder full of notes he’s accumulated from
the investigation into Gus and the Blue Sky meth.
ANCHORWOMAN
After a week since the blast,
reconstruction of the nursing home
is finally beginning. Progress was
delayed when the remnants of an
improvised explosive device were
recovered from the debris. Police
were hesitant to alter the scene of
the explosion until today. However,
authorities have still yet to name
a responsible party despite best
efforts-
Hank shuts off the television and chucks the remote across
the room. He turns his attention back to his folder.
His anger only seems to mount as he helplessly turns the
pages of the folder looking for something he missed.
He stops on a page with a picture of Gus.
Hank stares at the man who slipped through his grasp. His
dead lead. His dead suspect.
We hear the sound of a door opening.
MARIE
Hank! I’m back with the groceries!
Are you hungry now?!
Hank doesn’t move, he holds his stare on Gus’s photo.
MARIE (CONT.)
Hank?
HANK
I’m in here.
MARIE walks through the doorway into the living room.
MARIE
Going through the folder again?
Hank looks up from the folder, halfway coming to his senses
but he doesn’t respond.
13.
MARIE (CONT.)
(teasing)
Oh, the silent treatment? Hopefully
you won’t treat your friend the
same way you do your wife.
STEVEN GOMEZ walks into the living room behind Marie. Hank
looks shocked and immediately lights up.
He grabs a crutch laying on the ground and uses it to stand.
HANK
Hey, what gives!? I thought the
yard only gets mowed on Thursday!
What are you doing here Gomie?
GOMEZ
Your hedges looked like they needed
some work so I stopped by.
Crutches? You keep healing up and
pretty soon I won’t be able to call
you gimp anymore.
The two go in for a hug.
MARIE
I’ll leave you two love birds
alone.
Marie turns to Gomez before leaving the room.
MARIE (CONT.)
You’re welcome to stay for dinner
if you want.
GOMEZ
Thanks Marie.
Marie walks out of the living room and Gomez turns back to
Hank.
HANK
I think she’s making some sort of
casserole tonight so I suggest you
don’t.
Gomez grabs a chair and moves it closer to the couch.
GOMEZ
Well I didn’t exactly come for the
free meal Hank. I take it you’ve
been glued to the television since
the explosion?
14.
Hank carefully maneuvers his crutch to help him sit, Gomez
moves forward to help but Hank puts out a hand to stop him.
Both take a seat.
HANK
Yeah, I’ve been keeping up with it.
GOMEZ
I figured. I know how much you like
being right.
HANK
Eh... Not this time. That’s not the
way I wanted things to go down. You
know how bad I wanted him.
GOMEZ
We did get him. We found the lab in
the burnt down laundromat. You had
his number. He would have been
brought down either way. It was
only a matter of time.
HANK
Yeah, we say that now AFTER he’s
gone. But there’s still way too
many unanswered questions for a guy
to get a decent night’s sleep.
GOMEZ
If you can’t sleep well knowing we
got a guy like Gus off the streets,
I think you should look into the
whole teddy bear, night-light
thing.
Hank doesn’t bite on Gomez’s joke.
HANK
Do we know who set off the bomb
yet?
There’s a beat. Gomez hesitates.
GOMEZ
No.
Hank shakes his head knowing what this means.
HANK
So we have somebody who comes in
and takes out Mr. Blue Sky himself
(MORE)
15.
HANK (cont’d)AND an old heavy hitter in the
Mexican Cartel. We’ve got a new
player in the game now and zero
leads on who it is.
GOMEZ
Well, that’s one of the things I
wanted to talk about. We only
recovered three bodies at the
nursing home, and we don’t think
Heisenberg was one of them.
HANK
What are you talkin about? Gus had
the means of distributing to all
the areas where we found blue sky
with those damn chicken trucks. He
was at the top of whatever chain of
command there was. And no one takes
out the king without going through
the other pieces first.
(Almost disappointed)
He’s probably lying in a ditch
somewhere.
GOMEZ
That’s what we thought.
Gomez digs into his jacket and pulls out several pieces of
paper, including a photo.
GOMEZ (CONT.)
Until we found this.
Hank takes the papers and stares at the photo. He looks
excited when he realizes what he’s staring at.
HANK
Blue Sky?
GOMEZ
The "what" isn’t nearly as
interesting as the "where." That
was found in some poor bastard in a
French airport.
HANK
France?! Are you shitting me!?
GOMEZ
You can look over the info
yourself.
16.
Gomez hands an astonished Hank the rest of the papers he’s
holding.
HANK
What the hell is a mule doing with
the blue stuff in his stomach in
crêpe-land?
GOMEZ
We don’t know yet. But our boys
were able to date the batch. It was
made just 3 days ago.
HANK
You’re telling me Heisenberg’s
alive?
GOMEZ
And cooking.
Hank is trying to hide his happiness at the second chance to
bring in his man.
He can’t sit still. Not knowing what he knows now.
GOMEZ (CONT.)
Seeing as how you’re hobbling
around on crutches now, and you
were right on the money with Gus,
we want you to come in and head the
investigation. Heisenberg’s product
going to Europe has a lot of people
in some high up positions scared.
What do you say? You want to come
back? Office just isn’t the same
without ya stinking up the place.
Hank slowly looks up at Gomez with new purpose in his eyes.
HANK
Yes. Hell yes I will.
EXT. CAR WASH - DAY - D/2 13
Jesse pulls into the empty parking lot of the car wash.
He looks around the vacant lot but Walt is nowhere to be
found. Not knowing what to do now, he exits his vehicle and
leans up against the hood of the car.
17.
He produces a cigarette pack from his pocket. Staring into
the pack he is flooded with memories. Thoughts of the ricin
cigarette he once kept on hand. Thoughts of Gus and
everything else leading to this point.
Suddenly a loud buzzing and mechanical clanking fills the
air. The entrance to the main washing area rises like a
garage door.
As the door rises the figure is slowly revealed.
Walt stands centered holding the button for the garage door.
He’s dressed in a yellow plastic suit, a familiar sight for
Jesse from their time in Gus’s super lab.
WALT
Pull your car in. We need to keep
it out of sight.
Walt is more concise and business oriented than usual. He
motions for Jesse to speed it up.
WALT (CONT.)
Hurry!
Jesse hops in his car and pulls into the garage. Walt closes
the door behind him.
Jesse exits the vehicle. He sees the familiar yellow suit
that Walt is wearing.
JESSE
What’s with the suit? Have you been
cooking?
WALT
I have. It’s one of the reasons why
I needed you over here-
JESSE
(Interrupting)
Hey! What gives? I thought we were
taking a break!? I thought you said
we were going to lay low for a
while!?
WALT
I’m only trying to cook as much as
we need.
JESSE
We don’t need to cook right now Mr.
White! Gus was blown to hell! The
(MORE)

JESSE (cont’d)
Cartel is gone! Most of anybody who
gave two shits about what we did is
either dead or thinks we’re dead!
WALT
You would think that wouldn’t you?
But as per usual, I don’t think you
appreciate what exactly is going on
in the big picture here.
JESSE
Yo, what big picture!? What the
hell are you talking about?
WALT
The people who Gus supplied to,
Jesse. His market. His contacts.
JESSE
Yeah, what about them?
WALT
Simply because Gus is gone doesn’t
mean his customers suddenly don’t
want his product anymore. This
isn’t like a restaurant shutting
down, where the people just go home
once it closes doors. They need
what we have and they will burn
down everything and everyone who
stands in their way to get it.
Jesse turns and kicks his own car. For a brief moment, it
looks like they’ve been knocked back to square one.
JESSE
No! This is bullshit! How do they
even know that we’re the cooks,
huh!? How’d they find out?
WALT
I’m not certain. But they’ve been
following me. One was parked across
from my house this morning.
Jesse doesn’t say a word. His mind races back to the sedan
at the hospital.
WALT (CONT.)
What is it?
19.
JESSE
What do they want?
WALT
I told you what they want. A
product. Something to sell.
JESSE
Yeah? And how do you know that? How
do you know they don’t just want to
gut us both and leave us in the
desert?
WALT
Because I talked to them.
Walt begins to walk away from the car towards the back of
the garage. Jesse instinctively follows.
JESSE
You talked to them? The same people
who practically flashed a piece at
me at a freaking hospital? You
talked to those guys!?
Walt passes through a door and into the hallway. Jesse tails
behind still ranting and raving.
INT. CAR WASH HALLWAY - DAY - D2 14
JESSE (CONT.)
What did you say!? "Oh hello there
young man! I noticed you were
admiring my hydrangeas. By the way,
do you still want me to cook you
crystal meth!?"
Walt abruptly stops and turns around to face Jesse.
WALT
Honestly I’m just relieved that
they were willing to talk! Gus was
a threat, but he was also a
barrier. Now the regional kingpins
and street rats that we supplied to
are crawling out of the gutters to
get theirs. It’s a total
free-for-all and the next one that
comes around might not take the
whole ’complete economic shut down’
thing so well!
Walt reaches up and pulls down an entrance to the attic.
20.
An angled flight of stairs retracts down. Without skipping a
beat, Walt moves just as they stop at Jesse’s feet.
Walt climbs into the attic. Jesse, not sure what to expect
but with nowhere to turn, follows suit.
INT. ATTIC LAB - DAY - D/2 15
Jessie pokes his head into the attic. It’s been transformed.
An impressive amount of tile has been laid down.
Tubing twists around steel support girders that connects two
large metal sinks installed in the middle of the room to PVC
pipes running into the drainage system in the garage.
Two tables are set up with new flasks and burners. A cabinet
with the ingredients for blue sky is off to the side.
WALT
Saul, loaned me some money to get
something temporary up and running.
He knows about our situation.
Jesse wanders into the middle of the lab inspecting the
various beakers and burners.
JESSE
This is temporary?
Jesse sees a second yellow jumpsuit hanging on a clothing
rack. He slowly approaches.
WALT
Jesse. I need you to cook with me.
He turns to Walt hesitantly.
WALT (CONT.)
In order to get the amounts we need
with this equipment I’m going to
need your help.
Jesse reads Walt’s face. He’s earnest. Legitimately
concerned.
JESSE
It feels weird. Just jumping right
back into cooking you know?
WALT
Yeah. It doesn’t last long.
Jesse rubs his eyes and sighs to himself.
21.
JESSE
Do we even know who it’s going to?
You only talked to one guy, right?
WALT
About that...
Walt slowly begins to walk towards Jesse.
WALT (CONT.)
When you were working for Gus. He
had you doing dead drops right?
JESSE
Yeah. What about it?
WALT
I was told as long as we keep
delivering to his core clientele,
they’ll back off. No questions
asked.
JESSE
Why should we trust them?
WALT
We shouldn’t, but we have to play
along for now at least. Did you
ever find out exactly who was
dropping off payments we received
at each spot?
JESSE
No.
Walt’s stares blankly.
WALT
What do you mean ’no’?
JESSE
I mean no. They’re called dead
drops for a reason. There’s no
human interaction. We just grabbed
the cash from where they stashed it
and then we bounced.
WALT
Who were you with?
JESSE
I was with Mike.
22.
WALT
And you never asked him who was
getting the money?
JESSE
The guy hardly said two words the
entire time I was working with him!
WALT
Is he still in Mexico?
JESSE
Gus sent someone to go get him not
long after he was shot. Then he and
Gus talked for a little while and I
drove him home. Haven’t seen him
since.
Walt begins to take off his protective rubber suit.
WALT
Let’s check in on Mike.
INT. PHYSICAL THERAPY SESSION - DAY - D/2 16
Inside an almost vacant exercise room, MIKE lays by himself
on a low and padded table breathing heavily.
A few doctors walk by eying his progress before moving on.
Mike holds his hands over his stomach, though he wears a
shirt, the padding and bandages under it that cover his
surgery site bulge outward.
Mike slowly lifts his legs. Two ankle weights hang from his
feet. He grunts hard with each lift.
Sweat trickles down his strained face, before they finally
give way and fall to the mat. Mike looks pained and weary.
However it’s more than the exercises.
A PT coach approaches.
THERAPY COACH
That’s going to be it for today’s
session Mr. Ehrmantraut. I’m happy
to say you’re recovering very well.
Mike doesn’t say a word. He nods and leans over to take off
the ankle weights.
23.
THERAPY COACH (CONT.)
If you want to hop in one of the
private rooms we’ll ice you down
for a little while and send you on
your way.
INT. PRIVATE ROOM - DAY - D/2 17
Mike opens the door into a small, dimly lit, therapy office.
A single dull fluorescent light struggles to light the room.
He slowly makes his way to the lone clinical bench. As he
does so, the therapist, now with two large ice packs, moves
to help him.
Mike glares at him coldly. He meekly backs away. The paper
covering the bench crinkles loudly as Mike hoists himself up
and lays on his back.
The therapist gently places the ice packs on his stomach.
THERAPY COACH
We’ll send your daughter back to
get you when she arrives.
Mike nods and the therapist leaves the room.
Mike stares at the old tiles hanging loosely in the ceiling.
FLASHBACK TO:
INT. MEDICAL TENT - DAY - TWO WEEKS AGO 18
Mike lays on his back in the medical tent back in Mexico. A
lone doctor sits in the corner reading a newspaper.
The life support machines hooked up to Mike beep and hum.
Mike has tuned out the ambiance of the room, but a subtle
noticeable squeaking gradually begins to build.
Mike looks towards the wall of the tent and sees the
silhouette of someone approaching.
The entrance of the tent folds back as a man pushes in a
wheelchair. The doctor peers up from his paper and looks to
Mike who is already removing the cords and nodes by himself.
Mike weakly but gradually gets both legs on the ground.
He walks towards the man with the wheelchair, but eventually
passes him, making his way out of the tent on his own.
24.
INT. WAREHOUSE - DAY - TWO WEEKS AGO 19
He walks to a van parked 20 meters away while the man backs
the wheelchair up and silently pushes it behind Mike.
The man reloads the wheelchair into the back of the vehicle
while Mike fixes himself securely in the passenger’s seat.
The two pull away leaving the isolated warehouse and head
towards the main road.
FLASH-FORWARD TO:
INT. VAN - DAY - TWO WEEKS AGO 20
Mike and the driver silently face the road in front of them.
Mike looks down taking notice of something. Old blood. Dried
on his fingertips.
He rubs his fingers together. Blood flakes off onto the
floor, revealing pink patches of skin underneath.
FLASH-FORWARD TO:
INT. GUS’S OFFICE AT THE LAUNDROMAT - DAY - TWO WEEKS AGO 21
Gus sits across from Mike at his desk. It’s serious.
GUS
I don’t think I’m in the position
to ask you to do anything about it.
MIKE
It’s whatever you want. I can still
shoot a gun if that’s what it calls
for.
Mike leans back slightly in the chair.
GUS
If that were only the case.
MIKE
He won’t let you do it?
GUS
He insists Mr. White remains
unharmed. But he knows what’s going
to happen eventually.
25.
MIKE
When are you going to see him?
GUS
Today.
MIKE
Just him or are you bringing in
others?
GUS
Just him for now.
MIKE
He’s going to make you go after
them.
Gus doesn’t respond.
MIKE (CONT.)
He’s going to make you bring his
family into this. You won’t have
another choice.
GUS
I don’t need another choice. The
only dangerous thing about Mr.
White is that fact that he is now a
liability.
MIKE
What do you want me to do?
GUS
Go home. Rest. Jesse is outside. He
can take you.
MIKE
I don’t need a driver anymore.
GUS
We don’t take chances.
Mike gets up holding his wound and makes his way to the
door.
MIKE
Right...
GUS
Talk with Jesse. Make him
understand.
Mike looks to Gus and gives a small nod before exiting.
26.
END FLASHBACK
INT. PRIVATE ROOM - DAY - D/2 22
The sound of the door opening in the flashback carries over
to the present. Mike looks to the door.
Standing in the doorway, Walt and Jesse make their way into
the room. Mike speaks in his usual monotone voice.
MIKE
How the hell did you two pass off
as my daughter?
WALT
We’re longtime friends and we
wanted to talk to you privately
before we took you home.
MIKE
Oh. That’s mighty kind of you. Now
fuck off Walt.
WALT
We’re here for a reason Mike.
MIKE
Well that’s obvious isn’t it? You
always have your reasons. No matter
how stupid they are, they’re yours
and no one can talk you out of
them.
WALT
Shut up.
The anger we see is definitely not something that we’ve
witnessed Walt use against Mike.
Mike is stone-faced. He knows this Walt. Mike knew this was
always inside of him.
MIKE
Tell me Jesse. I know why he’s
here... But why are you here?
JESSE
We need the names of the groups and
people Gus was supplying to.
27.
MIKE
You need them huh? Is that your
doing Walt?
Walt moves to Mike. He balls his hand into a fist and places
it on Mike’s bandages. He begins to apply pressure.
His knuckles grind into the wound as Mike groans in pain.
Jesse is unsure of what to do. It’s not desperation driving
Walt. It’s something more deliberate. He wants to do this.
WALT
Give us the names Mike. We’re not
dying over your loyalty to a
corpse.
Walt releases the pressure. Mike coughs a few times in pain.
The coughs turn into chilling laughter.
MIKE
You’re persistent aren’t you? Going
to keep it up no matter what? After
all you been through you want to
keep digging a deeper hole. You
think you’ve got it under control.
You may want to believe that you
can deal with the best of em, but
you’re thinking like a goddamn
user.
Walt once again coldly jabs his hand onto the bandages. This
time he extends his fingers.
The bandages redden with new blood as Walt rips into the
stitches and flesh underneath. Mike winces in pain.
JESSE
Mr. White stop!
WALT
The names Mike. Now.
MIKE
O...Okay...
Walt doesn’t take his eyes off of Mike.
WALT
Grab a pen Jesse.
Jesse scrambles around the nearby drawers and finds a pen.
He grabs some of the paper Mike is resting on and tears it.
28.
Walt slowly releases the pressure. Mike once again chokes
out a few laughs as he takes the pen and paper from Jesse.
MIKE
Okay Walt. I’m going to give you
the names. Only... Only because I
know who you are... And I know who
they are...
Mike slowly begins to scrawl down the names, continuing to
talk as he does so.
MIKE (CONT.)
These guys are going to tear you
apart Walt. You’re throwing
yourself to the wolves. No matter
how much you pretend, you’re not
Gus and you never will be. They’re
going to see right through to your
rotten core. One look and they’ll
know you for exactly what you
are... A pathetic high school
teacher, who’s chasing power like a
junkie.
Walt snatches the list of names and puts it in his pocket.
As he turns to the door Mike keeps talking.
MIKE (CONT.)
You’re going to get yourself
killed, you’re going to get you
partner killed, and you’re going to
get your family killed.
Walt now stands at the door.
WALT
Are you finished?
Mike calls up from the bench.
MIKE
Yeah Walt. I’m done.
Walt and Jesse exit the room shutting the door behind them.
Mike looks down towards his stomach and sees the blood
seeping through the bandage.
He smiles to himself and rests his head against the mat.
29.
INT. PHYSICAL THERAPY HALLWAY - DAY - D/2 23
Walt and Jesse quickly walk down the hallway. Jesse can’t
contain himself.
JESSE
Yo, what the hell was that?!
Walt keeps his eyes forward still moving briskly. Jesse
stops. Walt keeps moving as Jesse calls after him.
JESSE (CONT.)
Hey I’m talkin to you!
Walt turns around and looks at Jesse impatiently.
WALT
What!?
JESSE
Was all that shit necessary!? He’s
recovering from a gunshot wound for
Christ’s sake.
WALT
It needed to be done.
Jesse doesn’t move, he gives him a look of doubt.
WALT (CONT.)
Jesse those guys who I saw today...
There’s going to be more of them.
And if they know where my family is
I’m guessing they know where Andrea
and Brock live-
Jesse snaps and grabs Walt by the shirt and pushes him
against the wall.
He grits his teeth, unsure of his own emotions or even why
he just got so mad.
JESSE
Don’t! Don’t. Just don’t talk about
’em like that.
WALT
They’re part of this now. I wish
they weren’t but they are.
Jesse lets go of Walt and tries to swallow his aggravation.
He rests his head against the wall.
Walt puts his hand on Jesse’s shoulder.
30.
WALT (CONT.)
That’s what it means to have others
riding on you Jesse. I know.
As the conversation dies down, the two resume walking.
They turn the corner to enter the main therapy facility but
both stop dead in their tracks. Hank Schrader is standing
over by two even bars.
A look of horror casts itself over Walt and Jesse’s faces.
Walt snaps to his senses first and turns to Jesse shoving
him back around the corner.
WALT (CONT.)
Hide! Now!
Jesse trips and falls to the ground, but quickly scrambles
to his feet. Trying to think quickly, He ducks back into
Mike’s room.
Hank struggles to get back on his crutches.
HANK
Walt? Is that you buddy!? Hell,
what’s a guy like you doing in a
place like this?
Walt turns around from looking down the hallway to Hank. He
forces a smile.
Hank hobbles over towards Walt and peers down the hallway
Walt was just looking down.
WALT
Hank! It’s uh... it’s good to see
you’re doing physical therapy
again.
HANK
Yeah they got a couple cripple
machines here that work a little
better than the crap Marie orders
off the TV for me at home. But
uh... You still haven’t said what
you’re doing here pal.
WALT
Actually it was Skyler.
There’s a beat.
31.
HANK
Skyler?
WALT
Right. Skyler. She told me to come
down and check up on you. Make sure
you were doing alright.
(searching beat)
I didn’t really see a reason to do
so, but... I figure it easier than
trying to argue with her huh?
Walt awkwardly forces a laugh. Hank is confused but still
makes himself chuckle at Walt’s predicament.
HANK
I hear you there bud. But uh...
How’d Skyler know I was doing
therapy again?
WALT
Well, I guess Marie must have
passed on the word. They talk about
pretty much everything. I mean it’s
MARIE here.
HANK
Yeah but... I didn’t tell Marie I
was coming down here.
Walt freezes. His smile fades.
WALT
What?
HANK
This was kinda a spur of the moment
thing I decided on like 2 hours
ago.
Walt opens his mouth to speak but no words come out. Hank
turns slightly more serious and his eyes dart to the hallway
behind Walt that he was looking down moments ago.
HANK (CONT.)
What are you doing here bud?
WALT
I uh. Um...
Walt looks around frantically. His mind races and he
swallows hard.
32.
Suddenly Walt gets more quiet and serious. He leans in
towards Hank.
WALT (CONT.)
Hank. Can you keep something on the
uh, down low?
HANK
Of course Walt, you know you can
trust me.
WALT
Well recently... uh, Skyler and I
have been having some problems.
HANK
You guys aren’t having another
fight again are you?
WALT
No. No, it’s nothing like that.
It’s uh, bedroom problems.
The conversation soaks in the an awkward silence.
HANK
Like uh... down there? Your...
Hank points down at his own crotch. Walt slowly nods.
WALT
Yeah, I just uh, I can’t- I can’t
get things working like they used
to.
HANK
Oh. Soldier won’t stand at
attention, eh? Don’t they have
pills for that?
WALT
I tried them.
HANK
Which ones?
WALT
All of them.
HANK
Damn. I’m sorry Walt. Hell, and
that’s coming from a guy who
thought he may not walk again.
33.
WALT
Yeah. It’s, it’s pretty bad. So I
decided to come in here. Try some
therapy. Exercises. See if I can
get things back to normal.
HANK
Right, right.
WALT
You won’t tell anyone you saw me
down here will you?
HANK
Oh no! No way buddy! Your uh...
condition, is safe with me.
Walt finally tries to change the conversation, an idea Hank
gladly embraces.
WALT
So what brings you down here? Just
a sudden decision to go all out on
the therapy thing?
HANK
Oh right! Hey you’re going to get a
kick out of this. So my unit over
at the DEA has been looking into
the explosion at the retirement
home right? And it looks like you
and me were right about our old boy
Gus!
Walt almost physically leans into the conversation as it
turns towards Hank’s operations with the DEA.
HANK (CONT.)
Well, we were thinking that
Heisenberg was dead after the whole
bombing incident. Probably taken
out by the same rival thugs who
killed Gus when they were chompin
their way up the old food chain.
Walt, is intrigued and almost relieved to hear this news but
wants to confirm it.
WALT
He’s dead then?
34.
HANK
That’s what we thought. Now it’s my
turn to ask you if you can keep a
secret.
Walt knows this is bad news, but he keeps pressing for as
much information on the DEA’s investigation as possible.
WALT
Okay...
INT. PRIVATE ROOM - DAY - AT THAT MOMENT 24
Jesse peers out the door and into the hallway. He softly
curses to himself about his bad luck. Suddenly Mike calls
out from the table.
MIKE
Walt is lying to you.
Jesse turns to Mike who still stares at the ceiling.
MIKE (CONT.)
You shouldn’t trust him.
Jesse thinks for a moment. He and Walt have had a rocky
relationship but they’ve never lied to one another.
JESSE
Yeah? And who should I trust huh?
You?
MIKE
No. You shouldn’t trust anyone. The
only way you’re going to stay alive
is if you start looking at things
for yourself kid.
JESSE
What do you think I’m doing!? You
think I’m just walking around with
my freaking eyes closed? I know
about you and Gus and all the crap
you tried to pull behind my back.
If I didn’t have all my shit
together I’d be dead right now!
Mike keeps looking at the ceiling. Jesse pushes for some
sort of indicator that he’s right. He needs the validation.
35.
JESSE (CONT.)
Yeah... So tell me who doesn’t know
whats going on bitch... Who’s in
control!? Me or the guy lying on
his back and bleeding into his
hands. You’re the one who’s messed
up NOT ME.
INT. PHYSICAL THERAPY HALLWAY - DAY - D/2 25
Hank pointlessly lowers his voice to sell the importance of
the information.
HANK
It’s a fresh batch, all of it
practically straight from the oven!
So we know he’s alive.
WALT
You mean...
It’s tough for Hank to hide his happiness.
HANK
Yeah. Heisenberg.
Walt doesn’t say a word. He tries to bottle his frustration.
HANK (CONT.)
But the real kicker... is where we
found it. It was in some stupid
bastard’s stomach over in France.
Walt’s face morphs into utter bewilderment.
WALT
What?
HANK
Well they call them mules right?
Usually it’s some poor wetback
running across the border with
about a hundred grand worth of
cocaine shoved up his ass. But this
guy had swallowed his cargo. One of
the sacks of Blue Sky split open in
his gut and BAM! He was spewing
half eaten croissants and meth all
over his eight o’clock flight.
Walt stands completely baffled in front of Hank.
36.
WALT
But what was it doing in France!?
Who was he delivering for?
HANK
We don’t know yet. But the big wigs
are freaking out about it and want
Heisenberg shut down... now.
They’re giving us more resources
than we know what to do with. And
best of all, since I was right
about that little creep and his
laundromat, they want yours truly
to be in charge of the
investigation.
Hank looks bright and full of energy standing in contrast to
a pale faced Walt. Hank slaps him on the back cheerfully.
HANK (CONT.)
Pretty sweet huh buddy!?
Walt stares dully into the distance.
HANK (CONT.)
Walt?
INT. PRIVATE ROOM - DAY - AT THAT MOMENT 26
Jesse looks out of the door. He still waits on Walt. Mike
speaks up from the bench again.
MIKE
You didn’t learn a damn thing from
those dead drops.
JESSE (CONT.)
Oh yeah! And what a great freaking
teacher you were man! You hardly
said two words to me the whole
time.
MIKE
You need to listen Jesse. It’s the
things you don’t want to know that
are the most important. The one’s
who listen stay alive. I didn’t
talk because I was always
listening.
Jesse stomps over to Mike to get in his face.
37.
JESSE
Yo, what the hell does that even
mean!?
Walt suddenly opens the door.
WALT
Hank’s gone. Let’s go.
JESSE
I hope you die.
WALT
We’re finished here! Let’s go.
Jesse looks to Walt and then back to Mike. Reluctantly Jesse
leaves. Mike is left to himself on the table.
EXT. CAR WASH PARKING LOT- NIGHT - N/2 27
Walt pulls into the parking lot. The two of them are
finishing up a conversation. Jesse seems worried while Walt
retains his contemplative demeanor.
JESSE
You sent our shit overseas!?
WALT
Of course not!
Jesse hastily unbuckles his seat belt and hops out of the
car, slamming the door behind him.
JESSE
Well it looks like ya did Mr.
White! How else could it have
gotten there huh!?
Walt gets out of the car to reason with Jesse.
WALT
Once we sell it, it’s out of our
hands. That’s the way it’s always
been. It could be going anywhere
for all we know. Who’s to say
that’s the first batch that’s gone
into another country?
JESSE
Yo, you’re missing the point! That
stuff found in France came from
what you made here in the car wash!
38.
Walt tries to sort things out in his head while Jesse
continues to speculate.
JESSE (CONT.)
Who did you sell to? Who!?
Walt slowly begins to speak, still deep in thought.
WALT
It doesn’t make sense. I didn’t
cook the amount of meth that they
found at the airport.
JESSE
Well. maybe they mixed batches? You
know? Some old stuff with some new
stuff.
Walt shakes his head.
WALT
I doubt it. The DEA apparently
tested the whole lot looking for
impurities and other reference
points.
JESSE
What about another cook?
Walt looks over to Jesse, he almost seems insulted.
WALT
No... No, that’s our formula.
JESSE
Couldn’t someone figure it out? You
almost taught Gale. I mean, Hell, I
can make the formula on my own now.
Walt looks at Jesse with and tries not to scoff. It’s not
something he likes to admit.
WALT
You?
Jesse can see Walt’s frustration and disbelief. He looks
defiantly at Walt.
JESSE
Yes. Me. I can...
There’s a beat before the two set their growing contempt
aside.
39.
WALT
Regardless of what’s going on with
the DEA and the other meth, this
changes nothing concerning our
problems with Gus’s contacts.
Jesse’s jaw drops.
JESSE
Are you serious, yo? Your
brother-in-law just got the okay to
bring his whole department in on
this freaking witch hunt and you
want to fire up the ovens and cook?
That’s insane man!
Walt finally explodes.
WALT
We don’t exactly have a choice here
Jesse!
Walt pauses as Jesse glares at him.
WALT (CONT.)
After the things that I’ve done to
keep my family safe, do you think
that I’m going to let anyone hurt
them now? They need us Jesse... and
not just my family.
Walt moves closer still.
WALT (CONT.)
I will do whatever it takes to keep
them from harms way. And I will do
it with or without you.
Jesse looks down to the ground for a moment taking this in.
JESSE
I can’t cook.
Walt bites his lip and scowls.
JESSE (CONT.)
Not tonight at least. I’m eating
dinner with Andrea and Brock.
The tension seems to rapidly dissipate between the two. Walt
nods.
40.
WALT
Okay. Okay, I understand. I should
do the same.
Walt approaches the large garage. He punches in a code
raising the door. Jesse’s moves to his car inside.
WALT (CONT.)
We can meet up tomorrow night and
get started.
Jesse doesn’t seem as positive about the situation as Walt
is, but agrees.
JESSE
Right. That’s it then.
Jesse gets inside his car and starts the engine without
looking at Walt.
Walt stands by the door and watches Jesse drive away. He
punches in the code and the door closes again.
Walt moves to his car, and opens the door. He stops. he
seems to lose focus and looks up towards the car wash.
Walt closes his eyes and shuts the car door. When he opens
them again Walt begins to make his way towards the building.
INT. WHITE HOUSEHOLD DINNER TABLE - NIGHT - N/2 28
Skyler and Walter Jr. sit at the dinner table. It’s fully
prepared with uneaten food that’s slowly getting cold.
Plates are set out in three places, two of them are occupied
on both ends of the table but a hole remains between them
where Walt should be.
Skyler awkwardly drinks some of her water trying to avoid
simply sitting still.
Holly sits in a baby walker next to the table, filling the
dead air with gasps and other out of place playful noises.
WALTER JR.
Where’s Dad?
SKYLER
I don’t know.
The short lived conversation seems almost painful for
Skyler. She tries to keep talking with her son.
41.
SKYLER (CONT.)
So how did that math test go
yesterday?
Walter Jr. doesn’t respond. He stares vacantly at the
meatloaf on the table that’s growing colder by the minute.
WALTER JR.
He was supposed to be back for
dinner tonight.
SKYLER
Well I’m sure he’s late for a
reason.
WALTER JR.
Oh Come on. How many times have you
said that this week? I don’t get
it. I don’t get to see him at
school anymore. He’s at home even
less. How much time can you spend
washing cars?
Walter Jr. is looking more and more upset as he talks.
Skyler doesn’t want to see tears.
SKYLER
Let’s just start without him, okay?
She reaches for the salad and begins spooning some onto her
plate.
She leans over to Walter Jr. to do the same for him. He puts
an arm across the top of his plate.
WALTER JR.
No.
Skyler exhales and slams the bowl back down.
She stands up and places her napkin back on the table before
walking over to the kitchen counter and grabbing her purse.
Walter Jr. watches as she digs out her cell phone, presses a
few buttons and holds it to her ear. We can hear the call
ring a few times and go to voice mail message.
Without skipping a beat, Skyler grabs her purse and walks
towards the door.
WALTER JR.
I want to come too.
42.
SKYLER
You can’t.
Skyler takes a deep breath and tries to compose herself so
she doesn’t look as frantic and angry as she feels.
SKYLER (CONT.)
I- I need you to stay with Holly.
Please. We’ll be back soon.
(Beat)
I promise.
Walter Jr. watches as Skyler exits the house.
He looks over to his sister who’s now beginning to act up.
The baby’s eyes well up and Holly begins to cry.
Walter Jr. looks around helplessly.
INT. ANDREA’S KITCHEN - NIGHT - N/2 29
Brock sits at table in the kitchen. The dinner preparations
are considerably more humble than what the Whites had.
Jesse sets down paper plates and plastic cups for the three
seats and sits down.
Andrea busies herself cutting up vegetables by the sink. She
speaks loudly over the running water so Jesse can hear.
ANDREA
He pretty much just slept the
entire day, so I wouldn’t feel too
bad about being gone. You didn’t
miss much.
JESSE
So he’s fe-
As Jesse yells to be heard over the faucet, Andrea shuts it
off leaving Jesse yelling his question. He starts again.
JESSE (CONT.)
So he’s feeling better?
ANDREA
(while smiling)
Ask him yourself.
Jesse turns to Brock who watches Andrea approach and place
freshly washed lettuce and diced tomatoes on his plate.
43.
JESSE
Yo little man. How you holdin’ up?
Brock looks to Jesse, with a mixture of shyness and slight
confusion. English is his second language after all.
JESSE (CONT.)
You doin’ alright?
Jesse gives a thumbs up and nods his head. Brock repeats
Jesse’s actions back to him. Andrea speaks to him in
Spanish.
ANDREA
(In Spanish)
Try to eat as much as you can
without feeling sick again. Okay?
BROCK
(In Spanish)
Okay.
Andrea serves Jesse and herself the same vegetables before
retrieving a pot of beans from the top of the burning stove.
ANDREA
So how was your friend?
Jesse’s caught off guard. He quickly prepares himself to
rattle off a string of lies and half-truths.
JESSE
Yeah, he’s fine.
ANDREA
What did he want?
JESSE
Uh, he needed a hand moving some
stuff.
ANDREA
Moving stuff?
JESSE
He got a new apartment.
ANDREA
Why didn’t he just tell you that
over the phone?
44.
JESSE
Cuz he’s an asshole.
Andrea shoots him a dirty look and motions to Brock with her
eyes.
Andrea comes back and spoons a large helping of beans onto
the plates. Jesse picks up a fork and takes a large bite.
Brock does the same, even trying to match his timing.
Looking at the child causes a feeling of relief to wash over
Jesse. The ricin ordeal is finally over.
JESSE
Ya know Brock, with your mom
cookin’ you food like this, I don’t
know what you were doing running
around eatin stuff in the woods in
the first place.
Jesse smiles to Andrea who seems to glow at the compliment.
Brock however stares blankly at Jesse.
JESSE (CONT.)
It was a joke...
Andrea winks at Jesse and lovingly teases Brock just a bit.
ANDREA
(In Spanish)
No more eating berries from
outside, right Brock?
Jesse catches the playful tone and smiles continuing to eat.
Brock’s reply is soft and earnest.
BROCK
(In Spanish)
What berries?
There is a beat as Andrea looks back over to Brock slightly
confused.
ANDREA
(In Spanish)
The berries you ate. The ones that
made you sick. You gave us all a
scare when you did that.
BROCK
(In Spanish)
I didn’t do that.
45.
Andrea looks perturbed. Jesse picks up on the shift in her
voice.
ANDREA
(In Spanish)
What do you mean?
BROCK
(In Spanish)
I didn’t eat any berries.
He’s adamant. Andrea sets down the beans. She looks like
she’s about to cry.
ANDREA
(In Spanish)
Don’t lie!
BROCK
(In Spanish)
I’m not lying!
The child remains defiant, when Jesse finally enters the
conversation.
JESSE
What’s wrong?
ANDREA
He’s insisting that he didn’t eat
any berries he found outside.
JESSE
Why?
ANDREA
I don’t know. Maybe he’s
embarrassed.
Jesse thinks in silence. Something isn’t right here.
He turns to Brock and uses his hands to help pantomime his
point.
JESSE
You would remember these. Little
bright red berries? No?
Brock not completely understanding but still insistent,
shakes his head hard.
46.
BROCK
No! No! NO!
ANDREA
(In Spanish and to Brock)
Don’t yell!
JESSE
Scuse me.
Jesse wipes his mouth and walks out of the kitchen to escape
the noise and think.
INT. ANDREA’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS 30
He paces across the living room, and eventually settles at
the window. He stares at his reflection lost in thought.
Suddenly Jesse’s eyes light up. Across the street he sees
the same sedan from the hospital. Inside the man talks
comfortably on the phone.
He looks over to Jesse and gives a slight smile. Jesse backs
into the living room and ducks out of sight.
He begins to shake and sweat. He curses under his breath.
Jesse closes his eyes hard wishing he could disappear. While
they’re shut the voices of Andrea and Brock in the other
room pull him back into reality.
He remembers that they aren’t safe. He knows that this is
why they need him.
Jesse crawls under the window and grabs a baseball bat that
Andrea keeps by the front door. A habit she’s never broken.
With the bat in hand, Jesse climbs to his feet and walks
back into the kitchen.
INT. ANDREA’S KITCHEN - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS 31
Andrea and Brock fall silent as he passes through. Jesse
turns to them before heading out the back door.
JESSE
Everything’s fine. Don’t leave the
kitchen kay?
47.
EXT. ANDREA’S YARD - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS 32
Jesse crouches down and sprints to a fence separating
Andrea’s yard from the neighbors. The fence is old and
wobbles back and forth as Jesse tries to hop it.
He makes it over but falls into the bushes on the other
side. Jesse staggers to his feet and keeps moving He presses
himself against the edge of the next house and turns the
corner that leads back to the street.
He moves down the driveway still crouching, but gaining
speed as he now makes a B-line to the car.
The man finishes his conversation and hangs up. He looks in
his side mirror just in time to see Jesse sprinting towards
the car.
Before he can react, Jesse makes contact. He swings the bat
into the driver’s side window. Glass shatters everywhere.
The man desperately tries to cover his face.
Jesse takes the base of the bat and jabs it through the
broken window, cracking it against the mans skull.
Each bash of the bat deals a hollow and sickening blow. One
shot hits the man’s jaw. He spits two of his teeth onto the
dashboard.
THUG
Stop! STOP!!
Jesse’s eyes are filled with fire. He strikes again and
again while the man howls in pain.
Jesse reaches in and pulls up the lock on the door. He
throws it open. Glass pours from the vehicle like a small
waterfall onto the street.
Jesse grabs the bruised and battered man and pulls him onto
the ground. Jesse points to the house with his bat.
JESSE
You show up here? You show up to
THIS house? Huh BITCH!? You gonna
threaten these people? A woman!?
And her little boy!?
THUG
(desperate)
Please! Please stop! Don’t kill me.
Don’t kill me plea-
48.
Jesse delivers a kick to the man’s stomach. He coughs up
mouthful of blood onto the pavement.
JESSE (CONT.)
I saw your ass at the hospital.
You’ve been followin me bitch? What
were you gonna do huh? Kill me?
THUG
No! No. I was just supposed watch
you. Just to scare you.
JESSE
Do I LOOK scared to you?!
Jesse eyes flash. He towers over the man, not concerned with
anyone who may or may not see him right now.
The adrenaline rush is starting to slow now. Jesse swallows
hard and looks back to the car.
JESSE (CONT.)
Give me your phone.
The man lay still for a moment.
JESSE (CONT.)
GIVE ME YOUR FUCKING PHONE!
He starts to crawl back to the car and leans over the
drivers seat. He digs for the phone and hands it to Jesse.
Jesse opens up the menu. He goes to recent calls.
JESSE (CONT.)
(to himself)
I want to know why you’re here...
and where you’re goin...
Jesse freezes. The anger slowly melts away from his face.
His bat falls to the ground, it echos in the empty street.
The man decides to take a chance and starts up the car. No
reaction from Jesse.
Jesse looks up to see the man peel away down the street.
He turns his attention back to the phone. We see a close up
that reveals the two most recent calls are from a contact
labeled "Walt W."

EXT. CAR WASH PARKING LOT - NIGHT - N/2 33
Skyler pulls into the parking lot.
It looks empty. She circles around to the other side. A soft
yellow light shoots out from beneath the mechanical door.
Skyler parks and approaches a keypad to enter her code. The
garage door begins to rattle and clang as the metal wall
rises into the air.
The door comes to a stop and Skyler is left looking at
Walt’s car which sits alone in the middle of the wash.
INT. CAR WASH GARAGE - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS 34
The door to the back hallway opens, Walter enters wearing
his large yellow rubber suit. In his hand he tightly
clenches a pistol.
Upon seeing Skyler, Walt slightly loosens his grip. He’s at
a loss for words. Skyler sees the gun in his hand.
SKYLER
Not who you were expecting?
Walt looks at her and then to the gun, realizing he’s still
holding it. He goes to place it on top of a nearby barrel.
WALT
It’s just for protection.
SKYLER
From who Walt?
(beat)
From the police? From Hank?
(beat)
From me?
Walt stays silent. He knew this was coming eventually.
SKYLER (CONT.)
You’re cooking again.
WALT
I am.
There’s a beat of disbelief as Skyler soaks in his response.
SKYLER
Why?
Skyler doesn’t even let him start.
50.
SKYLER (CONT.)
Who’s the bad guy this time Walt?
(Searching Beat)
Gus is dead. You’re cancer’s in
remission. We finally have a way
out now. But here we are. In the
same situation making the same
mistakes... I need to know why.
WALT
Might I remind you that I’m better
because I paid for the treatment.
Because I could afford
chemotherapy. Do you like this
building? Do you like owning your
own business? Because I paid for
that too by doing exactly what I’m
doing now! I provide and I pay.
SKYLER
You think you’re the only one
that’s paid!? You think you’ve
suffered alone? That the only
reason we’ve made it through
hardship is with what you’re doing
here!? You didn’t lead us anywhere!
You dragged us down with you! A
week ago...
(Searching Beat)
You said "I won..." Is this your
prize? You’re here by yourself
making drugs while your children
are at home continuing to grow up
without a father.
Skyler is trying to remain stern but her eyes begin to well
up with tears. Walt moves closer to her.
WALT
Skyler... You. Holly. Walter Jr.
You mean everything to me.
SKYLER
(Interrupting him)
No. No we don’t Walter. If we did
you would come home. You would
stop.
Walter’s cell phone lets off a small vibrating noise. Walter
slightly unzips his yellow suit and reaches to silence it.
51.
WALT
I can give our family everything it
will ever need. I can do that in
weeks. Both of our children will go
to college. You won’t have to work
again. Ever. We can get a new
house, anywhere you want. All these
doors that were locked before,
because of danger and threats and
fear... they’re all open for us
now.
Walt’s cellphone begins to buzz again, he’s too absorbed in
the conversation to notice.
SKYLER
I don’t want it. I don’t want any
of it. I was wrong to have helped
you. I’m sorry. I’m sorry if that
made you think it was okay, but
it’s not. If this is what you want
to do. You don’t have a family to
come home to.
Once again Walt’s cell phone begins to vibrate.
Skyler turns around and begins to walk away.
He doesn’t go after her. He stands in his yellow suit
watching her leave.
The phone falls silent.
Finally when her engine roars and her headlights pull away,
Walt zips up his suit so he can return to his craft.
He approaches the garage controls, and the large metal doors
shut one last time.
INT. JESSE’S CAR - NIGHT - AT THAT MOMENT 35
Jesse holds his cell phone to his ear. We hear the sound of
Walt’s voicemail greeting through the receiver.
Jesse shakes with rage while he grips the wheel. The phone
beeps to record.
JESSE
Listen bitch, you better pick up
your goddamn phone and start
explaining some shit or else I’m
gonna break down your front door
(MORE)
52.
JESSE (cont’d)and beat the answers I want out of
you!
The engine roars as Jesse continues to speed down the road.
He takes turns hard. The tires squeal madly at each corner.
Jesse’s mind races as fast as his car. He’s coming to the
worst conclusions for the obvious questions.
EXT. WHITE HOUSEHOLD - NIGHT - MOMENTS LATER 36
The car screeches to a halt outside of the White residence.
Jesse throws open the car door and marches up to the front
of the house.
Before knocking he hesitates. Jesse looks inside the window,
but can’t see anyone.
Unsure of whether there’s anyone home at all, Jesse takes a
deep breath and bangs on the door.
A few moments go by. There’s no answer.
Jesse impatiently starts to move to the back of the house.
The flood lights are on in the backyard and he can see into
the house just a little better.
He walks up to the sliding glass door and places his face up
against it, trying to peer inside.
Jesse backs up and swears to himself. Suddenly an idea hits
him, he steps backward and checks under the mat he’s
standing on. No key.
Jesse doesn’t drop the idea. He starts lifting and checking
underneath the various potted plants in the backyard, until
he suddenly stops...
Jesse watches as several red berries tumble out of the pot
that he holds and onto the ground.
His hands starting to shake, he plucks one of the berries
from the plant he’s holding to get a closer look.
He see’s a tag half buried in the soil. Slowly he unearths
it, reading, "Lily of the Valley."
Jesse’s begins to cry.
53.
JESSE
No. No... You didn’t. You didn’t do
this...
Jesse looks around him. He doesn’t know what to do. He
starts to run away, but stops... and snaps.
Jesse screams and throws the plant down to the ground. It
crashes, shattering everywhere.
Jesse still yelling and swearing begins to grab anything he
can get his hands on and smashes it on the ground and
against the side of the house.
He struggles with a larger fern that he’s only able to tip
over. His rage begins to slow down, and he drops to his
knees.
He pants, overwhelmed from the physical and emotional
overhaul.
We hear the sound of a sliding door opening along with the
sound of a baby crying.
He looks up to see Walter Jr. standing in the doorway.
Walter Jr. keeps one cautious hand on the door.
WALTER JR.
What are you doing in our backyard?
And why are you breaking our stuff?
Jesse can’t talk. He wipes away his tears but can’t take his
eyes off of Walter Jr.’s crutches. After what feels like an
eternity, he finally answers.
JESSE
(still slightly out of breath)
I’m- I’m a friend of your Dad’s. A
coworker.
Walter Jr. looks down at the broken pots on the ground and
then back to Jesse.
JESSE (CONT.)
I’m uh, I’m sorry about the pots
and stuff. I’ll replace them.
Walter Jr. doesn’t say anything. Jesse stands and turns to
leave. But he stops. A flash of anger lights up his face.
Jesse turns to Walter Jr. with a look of revelation.
