Spring 2004 BRAZIL CHURCH PACKS SOCCER STADIUM FOR BAPTISMAL O n November 15, 2003 nearly 50,000 Brazilian believers clad in white robes covered the field of Mineirao Stadium, the second largest soccer stadi- um in Brazil. Tens of thousands more sat cheering in the grandstands as their fam- ily and friends were baptized in one of 60 portable pools below. Two pastors at each pool baptized the new converts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., which correlates to one baptism per minute. 1,000 churches from the Belo Horizonte district participated in this celebration called “50,000 Souls.” COMPUTERS LEAD YOUTH TO CHRIST IN KOSOVO A small school in Gjakova, Kosovo, is using computers to teach youth about God while they learn other valuable skills. The computer center, which is funded and run by the local Foursquare church, offers classes on language learn- ing and music training. This unique min- istry has already seen results. In the last language class three of the youth were saved and baptized! ENTIRE VILLAGE CONVERTS T ed Olbrich, Foursquare mission- ary to Cambodia, recently visited a village of 300 families who had heard the Gospel from Foursquare national evangelists. Ted traveled by plane, truck, motorbike and boat as well as on foot, into the thick jungle. What he found was thrilling. Villagers excited about their new faith wanted a church building so they could worship together! Ted also discovered that rampant malaria had left many orphan children with- out adequate care. Plans are under- way to build two more Foursquare church/homes that will disciple the young Christians and provide hous- ing and care for these children. The Global Report is published by Foursquare Missions. Contact us at 888.635.4234 ext. 4320 or [email protected].

MISSIONARY ESCAPES AUTO ACCIDENT

It was a chilling moment for Greg Fisher, regionalcoordinator for East Africa, and his group as they

watched from their car a speeding vehicle in the oppo-site lane lose control and head toward them. Everyonein the car with Greg cried out to Jesus. Suddenly theoncoming car turned and flew by them up theembankment then across the road and over theguardrail, shedding scrap medal everywhere. Theordeal ended in seconds killing the driver and passen-ger instantly. Please continue to pray for our mission-aries, their families and those to whom they minister.

We praise God for His protection overShah Afshar, Middle East coordina-

tor, and his team, as they traveled into Iraqto secure ministry opportunities in thenorthern part of the country, for theFoursquare Church. Returning throughTurkey, Shah stopped briefly in Istanbul toconduct pastor training. During a morn-ing session in a meeting room of the hotel,a suicide bomber crashed his truck intothe British Embassy just yards away, destroying the Consulate and killing 12. Thebomb blast shattered Shah’s room, which he left just 10 minutes earlier. He escapedcertain injury and possible death.

Our Foursquare language-learning center inBangkok, Thailand, continues to grow.
