Well January was certainly predictable with its weather, one of the coldest on record I believe and probably the windiest!!
Not the best month to start running outside, however, if you managed any exercise out side, well done. Once you get going its not bad really but it takes everything to get you motivated to brave the weather in store! As Steve Cram once said, ‘the hardest thing about running is putting your trainers on’, certainly true for me last month!
I know there are lots of you who are planning to join the DAC beginners runners course at the end of January, I would love to hear from you to find out how you get on in February, good luck to you all!
February is the month for romantics and once again, all our local pubs are offering something special to help you celebrate your Valentines Day evening, so please be sure to book as it falls on a Saturday this year!
The deadline for the March issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 11th February. The March Arrow will be delivered the last full weekend in February.
Best Wishes

Kilham Hall News A belated Happy New Year to all readers of the Arrow! All weekly activities are now underway once again and Christmas/New Year seems a long while ago but we must spend a moment reviewing those December events at Kilham Hall! Tuesday Coffee Club enjoyed its annual Pie and Pea lunch on the 9th December with record numbers attending the feast and 'feast it was'! The Hall was beautifully decorated, as were all the tables, in true Christmas spirit and the room was buzzing with chatter and laughter. The weekend before had seen the 90th birthday of Jean Cheetham, one of our longest serving committee members, and we started the morning with birthday cake to accompany the tea and coffee. Interspersed amongst the usual activities was carol singing and thanks go to Sheila Smith and her friends who provided the wonderful musical entertainment, accompanied by Reg Littlewood on the organ. We were all invited to join in some of the carols and this was a most enjoyable part of the morning! Lunch was served at midday: pie and peas and potatoes followed by plum bread and cheese. The morning moved into early afternoon and the Coffee Club concluded with the usual quiz and raffle. The final Coffee Club of the year was on the 16th December and its doors reopened on Tuesday 6th January 2015. All weekly activities are now all back in full swing. It was decided at our November committee meeting that Kilham Hall Committee would like to support local charities and projects which in themselves support the local community. It was agreed that we would, if possible, make a donation each December/January, and on behalf of those in our community who in turn support Kilham Hall, to a few local groups and that we would change the groups each year rather than fix only on specific ones. This year we decided to make a donation to the following charities/groups: Bluebell Wood Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice Service is available to help children with life-limiting conditions together with their families from South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and part of North Lincolnshire. Firefly Firefly is a free, comfortable taxi service that takes local folk between hospitals for their cancer treatment.

We hope that our chosen charities/projects for 2014 meet with your approval and if any of you have other suggestions for local charities/projects which you would like us to support please pass these on to any of the Kilham Hall committee members or, if it is easier, to Barbara Fussey at Branton Post Office. We are donating on your behalf and hope to be able to do so once again, towards the end of 2015, so we welcome all suggestions. With all good wishes for the year to come. Kilham Hall Committee

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY/MARCH 2015
Christmas Carol Singing The annual singing of carols, accompanied by the Armthorpe Emfield Band, was well- attended and held on Tuesday, 9th December outside the Eagle and Child public house, Auckley. The Parish Council wishes to thank Jason from the Eagle who provided hot soup and an outdoor shelter to keep everyone warm and dry. Closure of Road at Fir Tree Avenue Apartments are currently under construction at Fir Tree Avenue on the Hayfield Complex and, as a result, part of the road has been closed until completion of the work The road closure means that parents from Sycamore Drive and the Hayfield Village now have to walk on the grass verge in order to reach the school crossing and the bus shelter which is difficult, particularly at this time of year, when pushing buggies on wet grass. Council has contacted the developer to ask whether a temporary footpath could be provided around the perimeter fencing, and we await his reply. Dog Fouling This continues to be a problem, particularly on the Riverside Park and Spey Drive recreation grounds. Would dog owners please make sure they clean up after their pets whenever they are in a public place and keep them on a lead when walking through play areas. There are several dog waste bins in the village and, in addition, dog excreta may also be deposited in normal litter bins, provided it is securely wrapped in a plastic bag or other suitable container. The Parish Council would like to thank the majority of responsible dog owners who always clean up after their pets and deposit waste products in the bins provided. Parking Outside Ellers Lane Shops The practice of parking vehicles on the double yellow lines outside the shops leads to congestion and creates a hazard for pedestrians and motorists wishing to use the highway. Parking Enforcement Officers have been asked to monitor indiscriminate parking and can issue tickets to anyone (apart from disabled drivers or passen-gers) seen parking on the yellow lines.

Hearts, Chocolate and Bath Cleaning Well it’s February, which means one thing - the shops are full of all things pink, red, furry, chocolatey, and predominantly heart shaped, because Valentines Day looms! I’ve also been writing to those couples who are due to get married this year, so my mind as been full of love and marriage, which apparently go together like a horse and carriage. So, perhaps it was time to share some thoughts on the subject.
I heard about a couple who drove several miles down a country road, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument, and neither wanted to concede their position. As they passed a farm with pigs and donkeys, the husband sarcastically asked,
“Relatives of yours?” “Yep,” the wife replied, “in-laws.”
This year my wife and I celebrate our silver wedding (all comments like ‘you don’t look old enough’ gratefully received) Before our wedding day arrived I was given two pieces of advice by a lovely chap who had a great marriage. First was ‘The man should always clean the bath’. Second, ‘Never, ever, go to sleep without resolving an argument.’ Now I’m all for equal opportunities, so the first point is perhaps outdated, however, the second is very wise indeed, and in our almost 25 years we have never gone to sleep on an argument.
I’ve been looking for other words of wisdom, and found these.
Never both be angry at once. Never shout at each other unless the house in on fire. Remember it takes two to make an argument. The one who is wrong is probably the one doing most of the
talking. If you have a choice between making yourself or your partner look good - choose your partner. If you feel you must criticise, do so lovingly. Never bring up mistakes of the past. Neglect the whole world, rather than
each other. Never let the day end without saying
something complementary to your partner.
When you’ve made a mistake, talk it out and ask for forgiveness.
Never go to bed angry.
I think it sounds like good advice, but it’s not new, Paul was offering words to his readers in Corinth on the subject of love, and not specifically to married couples, but to everyone. Imagine the world if we treated one another as Paul instructs.
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. “
St Paul, The Bible, 1Corinthians 13:4-7 Revd. Neil Redeyoff St Saviour's, Auckley & St Oswald's & Holy Trinity, Finningley
