ABOUT US

“Jersey’s heritage and culture are special.

The purpose of the Jersey Heritage Trust* is to care for it, to promote wide access to it, act as an advocate on its behalf and bring imagination to telling its stories so that it inspires people to create a better island for everyone.”

The brand we have developed helps to encapsulate this clear cause. We aim to inspire people to nurture their heritage in order to safeguard it for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone. If people believe in, and are inspired to get involved with, our cause we will succeed.

BRAND GUIDELINES

As with any branding exercise, our success depends on being consistent at every point of contact with our audiences. We need you to understand our brand and to use the different visual elements in the right way.

We have produced these guidelines to explain how our visual brand identity works and to help you design or brief anything for Jersey Heritage. Please read them carefully and keep a copy handy. This is a living document and will be updated as we continue to bring the brand to life.

BRAND PROPOSITION

- Protector- Authority

Our brand proposition summarises why Jersey Heritage exists. We deliver a guardianship role in protecting and preserving our island heritage. But we are also the catalyst for capturing and telling our island story. This is a brand that the whole island can be a part of and be proud of.

Primary Logo

Page 11: BRAND GUIDELINES Full Brand... · 2019-06-07 · BRAND GUIDELINES As with any branding exercise, our success depends on being consistent at every point of contact with our audiences.

PRIMARY LOGO

The Jersey Heritage logo is at the core of our identity. Reflecting our brand personality, it is classic with a modern twist; a brand that is relevant to all.

The logo is constructed from two key elements – the ‘Quill’ that visually represents the island story; and the adjoining classic Serif font that makes up the ‘H’ of Heritage and our solid guardianship role.

The logo must never be reproduced and must always be sourced from the master artwork files that are available from the Jersey Heritage Marketing Team and Orchid Communications.

PRIMARY LOGO - KEY VERSIONS

10

NEGATIVE LOGO VARIATIONS

POSITIVE LOGO VARIATIONSYou can use both positive and negative versions of the primary logo with any of the six colour variations.

On darker backgrounds please use the negative version of the logo where the text and quill are white.

On lighter backgrounds please use any of the colour versions of the logo.

If there are ever reproduction restrictions or you are asked to use the core logo - please revert to the legacy green version of the logo shown at the top of the list.

Page 13: BRAND GUIDELINES Full Brand... · 2019-06-07 · BRAND GUIDELINES As with any branding exercise, our success depends on being consistent at every point of contact with our audiences.

PRIMARY LOGO - ALTERNATIVE VERSIONS

Mono versions of the logo are also available and can be used as appropriate.

The negative version of the logo can also be used to good effect against a full image background.

Some examples of how the negative versions of the logo can be used are shown (right).

Landscape versions of the logo are available to use where space makes use of the primary logo difficult/illegible. (Example shown below.)

PRIMARY LOGO - EXCLUSION ZONE

To ensure the logo has maximum impact always keep the area around it clear. This space is called the exclusion zone.

The exclusion zone protects the brand mark from other visual and graphic elements. The exclusion zone is derived from the height of the quill’s ink.

12

Page 15: BRAND GUIDELINES Full Brand... · 2019-06-07 · BRAND GUIDELINES As with any branding exercise, our success depends on being consistent at every point of contact with our audiences.

PRIMARY LOGO - SIZES

To ensure legibility the logo should never be smaller than 20mm. In some exceptional cases where the logo needs to be smaller than 20mm, and the Jersey Heritage text will not reproduce well, please use the lock-up only device as shown bottom right.

If you are unsure what size to make the logo, simply follow this easy rule: work out the distance from corner to corner of your desired format and then divide the length of this measurement by 10. Doing this will give you a suggested logo width. Please adjust as necessary and for narrow or shallow formats simply make the logo as large as the margin allows.

PRIMARY LOGO - SIZES & POSITIONS

As a general rule, the logo should always be positioned top right of a design to maintain consistency.

For narrow or shallow formats simply make the logo as large as the margin allows.

TYPEFACE - TITLE FONT

We use specific type styles consistently across our communications. This adds to our overall visual language and builds familiarity with our audiences.

Our title font should be used in caps with a tracking setting of 150 and a leading setting to match the font size. For example, a font size of 30pt, would have tracking of 150pt and leading should be set to 30pt.

We encourage the use of Basic Sans for brand consistency. If this is not an option we recommend that Arial is used as a substitute. Font should be used in capitals with a tracking setting of 150 and a leading setting to match the font size.

Headline Tracking should always be set to 0pt.

Headline Leading is worked out using a calculation based on your font size.

Display Message

Our display font should be used sparingly to add a “storytelling element” to communications and/or to highlight a key supporting message.

Here is a list of suggested display messages currently used by specific business areas.

Custom messages can be used but they must bring an element of storytelling to the creative. The use of the key word ‘story’ is preferred (where possible).

Footer

Our footer is an important feature and helps maintain consistency across all collateral.

The web address and social icons always sit to the left of the footer (our web address does not include www.) and the ‘Association of Jersey Charities, No. 161’ text always sits to the right.

In some cases where space is limited these items can stack on top of each other.

FAMILY HISTORYFamily History is one of the most popular subjects for researchers at the Jersey Archive. Archive records allow members of the public to go on a journey through their past and meet the ancestors who have shaped not just their features but also their personalities, values and everyday lives.

Jersey Heritage is delighted that the Channel Islands Family History Society collection is hosted at the Jersey Archive. The extensive collection of books, family trees, indexes of baptisms, marriages, burials and censuses were all prepared by members of the Society. This invaluable resource is available in the help desk area of the Jersey Archive where volunteers with up to 30 years experience in family history are also available to help members of the public.

LOVE YOUR CASTLE OPEN DAYSaturday 21 October 2017

Thanks to Lloyd’s BankAwesome adventures

We are looking forward to our second Open Day on Sunday 21st October. Visitors will be treated to bespoke talks and tours from our Living History interpreters who will captivate them with stories from the rich and dramatic history of this extraordinary building. Both Open Days are kindly sponsored by Lloyds Bank.

This summer we cheered on runners for the Hawksford Castle Chase, a one mile relay from West Park across the causeway to the parade ground, sponsored by Hawksford. Our congratulations go to all that took part.

Over the summer holidays, we called on all young adventurers to explore Elizabeth Castle and Mont Orgueil and then submit a picture or story about their experience with the Castle Challenge, sponsored by Ogier. Later this year, thanks again to the kind support of Ogier, Island schoolchildren will take their classes out to the Castle to learn more about this historic site, through a series of fun and educational activities. Get involved with ‘Love Your Castle’ and help us to keep the story alive for generations to come.

Earlier this year we launched our ‘Love Your Castle’ campaign. We were delighted to welcome over 4,000 people to Elizabeth Castle for a free family fun day – thank you to everyone that came to support.

Bergerac’s Island - Jersey in the 1980s opened in April this year and by mid-summer had already welcomed more than 14,200 visitors. The exhibition looks at the key events of the 1980s along with the fashion, nightlife, and music. The exhibition is a result of huge community involvement through donations, time and photographs and we are grateful for your continued support.

The same is true of Storymakers, an exhibition that celebrates people’s passion for the past and the ways in which they engage with Jersey’s

heritage. Visitors are encouraged to add a favourite object to the Mini Museum or create a Memory Jar for others to explore.

Whether you have lent your ra-ra skirt to the Jersey Museum, shared a memory of Elizabeth Castle or simply visited one of our exhibitions, thank you for keeping our Island’s heritage alive.

This year our exhibitions have been a result of huge community involvement making them an extra special part of our Island story.

Living History

Fun for all the familyOther ways to supportDirect Debit

The 1980s were an iconic decade of people power and individuality. Our new exhibition looks at the key events

of the 1980s, how the world was changing and how people became much more aware of the need

to look after it.

In this exhibition we explore how we felt in Jersey about what was happening in Jersey and the world.

Music, fashion and film often had a very distinct 1980s flavour with BIG being an often used word. Millions of people around the world were introduced to Jersey

through the fictional Bergerac television series.

The star of Bergerac, John Nettles, will introduce visitors to some of the key stories in Jersey from the 1980s and

the exhibition will feature his famous car.

Living History
