Sevenoaks Town

Sevenoaks Town FC was originally formed in 1883 and they were founder members of the original Kent League, but they left after just one season and wouldn’t return for another 110 years. There are few existing records of the club during that era, but it is known that on 26 April 1893 they played Royal Arsenal, who were at the time the only professional team in the South of England, with over 1,000 spectators watching the game.

In 1906 the club, now known as Sevenoaks Town, became one of the founder members of theSevenoaks League. In 1951 Town amalgamated with another local club, St. John’s United, andbecame members of the Kent Amateur League (Western Region), which they won on two occasions. In 1984 the Kent Amateur League was re-organised as the Kent County League and Sevenoaks were the first Premier Division champions, a feat they repeated in seasons 1995–96 and 2002–03.

After over a century playing in almost exclusively amateur leagues, Sevenoaks applied for promo-tion to the semi-professional Kent League after winning the 02-03 title.

Their first season in the county’s senior league ended with a respectable 11th place and included a memorable victory away to former Football League side Maidstone United, when theyrecovered from a 3-1 half-time deficit to win 4-3.

The move to senior level also meant Sevenoaks were eligible for FA competitions. Their first appearance in the FA Vase came in 2004-05, when they lost 2-1 at home to Deal Town.Their longest run in the competition came in the final season they were eligible, 2017-18, when they made it to the third round proper before losing 3-1 away to Thatcham Town.

Since achieving promotion to the Isthmian League, Town have switched to the FA Trophy. In their first ever match in the competition in 2018-19 they beat former Conference side Grays Athletic 4-2 before losing 2-1 away to Dorking Wanderers, who went on to win the Isthmian Premier Division, in the first qualifying round.

In the FA Cup Town’s best performance came in 2016-17 when they took Chesham to a replay in the second qualifying round and although they’ve yet to meet Football League opposition, one of their most memorable ties came in 2008-09 when they held Folkestone Invicta to a 4-4 draw at Greatness Park in the preliminary round.

Town led 2-0 and 3-2 but were trailing 4-3 in stoppage time when a free-kick from Dwayne Gib-bons earned them a replay, which they eventually lost 4-1.

Page 9: BRACKNELL TOWN FC

Sevenoaks Town

After a decade during which their highest league position was sixth in 2009-10, Town appointed the former Dartford and Tonbridge player Micky Collins as manager for the 2014-15 season.Having previously won the Kent League title with Erith & Belvedere, Collins oversaw four seasons of progress, which saw the club rise from 16th to eighth, fifth and third in 2016-17, during which they also won the Premier Division Cup.

In 2017-18, having installed a 3G pitch, they won what had since been renamed the Southern Counties East League, for the first time ever and with it promotion to the Isthmian League, coming tenth in their first season, their highest ever position on the pyramid.

Page 10: BRACKNELL TOWN FC

Bracknell Town

Bracknell Town Football Club was formed in 1896 as Old Bracknell Wanderers and changed its name to Bracknell F.C. in 1949.

The club played in the local leagues until joining the Great Western league. After four seasons in this league and renaming the club Bracknell Town in 1962 the club was elected to the Surrey Sen-ior League, which they won in the 1969/70 season. The club also won the league cup in 1968/69 and 1969/70. After this success, the club entered the Spartan League (later re-named the London Spartan League) and finished runners up on goal average in 1975/76, in which they also reach the fifth round of the FA Vase.

After winning the league in 1982/83, they were promoted in 1984 to the Isthmian League Division Two South. They were promoted to Division One as runners-up in 1985/86, finishing third in their highest ever league placing. However, in 1988/89, Bracknell Town were relegated and following a re-organisation of the Isthmian League were placed in Division Three in 19991/92.

At the start of the 2016/17 season under the guidance of new chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse the club embarked on a major re-development of the ground with the installation of a state-of-the-art 3G pitch, changing facilities and club house and in keeping with this total modernisation re-branded the clubs logo. The reaped major benefits from this work with all teams down to the youngest age group now able to play and train at Larges Lane.

In 2017/2018 season we had a titanic battle with Thatcham Town for the top slot, both teams accumulating 98 points for the season with Thatcham Town’s superior goal difference of 104 goals securing the title by a mere 2 goals. However, due to a restructure of the leagues our efforts were rewarded with promotion to Step 4 in to the Bostik South Central League. We also managed to get our own back by beating Thatcham in the final of the Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup to add another trophy to our collection.

The 2018/19 season was our first venture into Step 4 for many years and once again we came close, finishing second behind Hayes & Yeading and missing out on promotion by losing the play-off final to Cheshunt. We reached the semi-final of the Velocity Trophy with impressive victories against sides higher up the footballing pyramid.

We started the 2019/2020 season with a new stronger ambition and a number of new faces in the squad. It took slightly longer than planned to get things to gel and we needed to make a few changes to the set up. We are grateful to Mark Tallentire who stepped in as manager until we found an ideal replacement.

In December 2019 we had the pleasure to announce the hugely experienced Bobby Wilkinson as permanent manager. Bobby wasted no time in building a very strong back room team and together they will hopefully rebuild on the platform that we started in 2016/17 and push the club forward to greater things in the coming seasons.
