Boys Gymnastics An All Around Sport for Boys
Few parents consider putting children, particularly young boys, into gymnastics training programs. Young people are typically
funneled into highly celebrated sports such as baseball, football
and basketball.
Parents looking for a rewarding and challenging sport for young men do well to take a closer look at
the outcomes of this Olympic sport, that arguably
produces the strongest athletes in the world, pound
for pound. Positive takeaways such as athleticism, discipline and self confidence are gained from
participating in gymnastics and in some cases
exceed those same outcomes in found in other
sports.
Athleticism
By it's very nature, learning to tumble, roll and flip allows young
men to fuse mental and motor skills around the core areas of
physical fitness: cardiovascular endurance, strength and
flexibility. This leads to boys having sharper abilities of coordination, increased speed, phenomenal agility and power. A
strong foundation in gymnastics is also an asset when competing
in other sports.
Discipline In order to become proficient in floor routines, balance beams
and related activities, young men need to fall in line, follow
directions to the letter, learn respect for his body, coach and
team mates. They also acquire time management skills, learn to eat a balanced and nutritious diet and forge strong mind-body
connections. Unlike many other sports, self-discipline in
gymnastics aren't tied to the performance or comparison to
peers, but allows a stronger focus on self-improvement and
personal achievement.
Confidence
Nothing injects a dose of confidence in a young man more than
his ability to perform Spiderman-esque, gravity-defying floor
routines. As his ability to flip, spin and twist grow, so will his
confidence by leaps and bounds.
Grades
It's no secret that young boys who are struggling with academics
find the motivation to perform better in class via extracurricular activities. The sport acts as an incentive to do well. With
increased confidence and discipline, better school performance
comes within grasp. Ralph Barret, a 50-year veteran educator
and instructor has also discovered a link between higher reading
scores and gymnastics instruction.
Whether you're looking to help boys become more athletic, learn
discipline or boost educational outcomes, gymnastics offers the
goods.
