We had a super Vacation Bible School this year. The kids were very excited, couldn’t wait for it to begin, loved every moment of it – you could tell by seeing the excitement in their
faces. The Bible was taught to them very effectively and they came away impressed with what God has done. This is a wonderful form of Biblical study for our young ones.
There are ‘super heros’ of faith recorded in the Bible. It is God who does super stuff through ordinary people who yield themselves to God’s plan. The VBS focused on this con-
cept by looking at various heros of the faith in the scriptures.
One night at the end of the session everyone was gathered together in Heritage Hall and Denise began asking the kids about the lesson they had learned. She brought up David, the young boy who was probably a
teenager when he was caring for his father’s sheep. The kids knew all about how he had faced Goliath and with one stone from his sling-shot brought the giant down.
The point of the VBS lessons is well taken. The people God used were ordinary people who were will-
ing to do God’s will. The ‘super stuff’ was God’s doing. Jesus could have chosen well educated Pharisees, and he could have chosen people who were already
influential people in the Jewish government such as Nicodemus, but he chose ordinary people several of whom fished for a living on the Sea of Galilee, to be his disciples. They turned the world upside down for Christ –
because of God’s power, not theirs. So often we look at the skills we do not have and wonder what God could possibly do through us. God
just needs our willingness – He’s been using ordinary people to do great things for a long time. Just open your
heart to God.

Prayers & Stitchers
Glenda Thomas
Since Prayers and Stitchers began, we
have been blessed to not only provide prayer shawls but have completed several other projects.
Some projects included lap shawls/quilts, quilt hangings, crocheted scarf’s , baby quilts, crocheted
pumpkins for treat or treaters and other crafting
type projects/missions. For sometime, I have been dreaming/
thinking/praying about “the little dresses for Africa” project. There are already numerous groups that
are providing pillowcase type dresses for African girls. After talking with several members and
friends, I discovered that there is not only a need
on the mission field there is a need locally. Westside Elementary School, a Catoosa county
school, that we are partnered with, has a need for clothing for their students.
They accept new and gently used clothing.
We are now making these very simple pillowcase dresses for Westside. We currently have about 8
dresses already made. My hope is before Septem-ber we will have several more made for their
Clothes Closet. My hope and prayer is this could be
an ongoing mission and we could provide dresses throughout the year, and we could also provide
these dresses for the next Nicaragua Mission trip. Yes, we will still be crocheting the beautiful Prayer
Shawls. Not everyone likes to sew, so some of us will still be crocheting, some sewing and some do-
ing both – of course, not at the same time.
If you sew and would like to make one or more of these cute dresses, I will cut them out for
you. They can easily be made in about 1 hour. All little girls like to look pretty. So this is our way of
helping a few girls. We will also provide a few T-
shirts to wear under the dress. Any donation of clothing or time will be appreciated. We may never
know the impact of what we do for others in the name of Jesus Christ. We currently have 10 active crafters who
met this summer, the 2nd Thursday of each month.
Beginning September 10th we will resume our weekly gathering each Thursday at 6:00 pm in the
Koinonia SS classroom. If you would like to learn to crochet, we have everything you need to get stat-
ed. If you crochet and prefer to crochet at home,
let me know and you can choose from an assort-ment of yarn we have on hand.
A prayer shawl can be requested by calling the church office or by talking with any member of the
our group, Prayers and Stichers or by contacting me at 423-902-4321 or [email protected].
Prayer for Beginning a New School Year
Dear Heavenly Father, We thank you for the opportunity to begin a new school year and we ask that you bless the students, faculty and student families that make our schools a great place. We pray that you will guide us in all ways, so that we will seek your will in eve-rything we do. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
Why Do We Have Stephen Ministry PART II?
We have Stephen Ministry because God calls every-
one of us to love and care for one another. Re-member the story Jesus told in Matthew 25 when
the people asked, " Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and
give you drink? When did we see you a stranger
and welcome you or naked and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?
JESUS WASN'T TELLING THAT STORY ONLY TO
PASTORS. HE WAS SPEAKING TO ALL OF US!

Please make plans to join us in August. Our guest speaker will be Rachel Tarr who is involved
in the Kenya Project. Rachel visits Kenya each
year doing mission work. Join us for a glimpse into what she does on her visits.
We want to thank all those who attended our
Women’s Luncheon. It was a great success. Our silent auction went well. We raised $400 which will
be given to the Catoosa County Homeless Fund.
We meet the third Tuesday each month in Heritage
Hall, with the meeting starting at 7:00 pm.

Honor the Lord
Submitted by Ann Orr, Financial Secretary
“Honor the Lord with our wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”
Proverbs 3:9 In Proverbs we are told to honor the Lord with our firstfruits. Not many of us, how-ever, have olive trees, gain fields, and vine-yards. So how do we apply this nugget of wis-dom to our lives? In Revelation 14:4, it says that believers “… were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.” We are ourselves an offering! The Lord wants for us to willingly give ourselves to Him. We are to give of our time and money be-cause we want to, and not because it is re-quired. God wants us to give to Him first, not with what is left over. We also have a promise that “your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Is God promising to make us rich? Yes! We will be abundantly rich in blessings from the Lord – too numerous to count. He gives to us and we give back to Him and He gives back to us again what is His. We cannot out give the Lord! This is especially true in the realm of our spiritual lives. Paul tells us in Ephesians 1 that we have been blessed by Christ with “every spiritual blessing.” He has lavished His gifts upon us. We have been given all that we need in Christ. And now He calls us to present our-selves as a living sacrifice, an offering back to Him. May we respond out of grateful hearts.
