When someone says it happens once in a blue moon, it’s a common way of saying that something doesn’t happen very often.

You might have heard that a blue moon actually means the second full moon in a calendar month.

This phenomenon, which was visible on Friday night, will not occur again for the next three years.

The two full moons occurred on July 2 and July 31. Full moons are supposed to occur once every month.

The phrase has nothing to do with the actual colour of the moon, it actually means “betrayer”.

Is there something blue about this full moon?

“I only had two weeks to hand over all the necessities of my old post to my replacement and to get everything ready for the migration to the new school,” Van Tonder told Nelspruit Post.

Despite the short notice, he says he looks forward to all the challenges his new job has in store for him.

“The only real big challenge is having to learn everyone’s names again.

“Although this is a big school, I will try my best to get to know most of the learners.

“I feel it is important to have that personal relationship with each of them.”

Van Tonder was the HOD for academics for grades four to seven at Laerskool Laeveld. He was involved with the school for almost 17 years.

“I am not going to try and reinvent the wheel.

“I am just going to learn how they have been doing things here.

“I will try to improve things where I can. I’m sure I will adapt to their way of doing

things, as well as the difference in language very soon.”

Personnel of Laerskool Laeveld said they would miss him dearly, but they wished him well and were very happy for him.

“He will leave an empty place in our hearts and his replacement will have big shoes to fi ll,” said Laeveld’s spokesman, Ms Sonja Holtzhausen.

Soek u diepte in u Bybelstudies? Hier is die reeks vir u! Soek u ‘n nuwe, dieper verhouding met Jesus Christus? Hier is die geleentheid. Soek u die waarheid? Kom oordeel self. Dit vind Maandag- tot Donderdagaande by Stabilis Ingelyf by Van Rensburgstraat 5 plaas. Toegang is gratis. Navrae: 083-232-8114 of 083-503-4381.

ADVERTORIAL

On Friday you finally have permission to wear slippers to work, thanks to Reach for a Dream and its annual Slipper Day campaign.

All South Africans can take part by reaching for their slippers and wearing them to work, school or the mall, all in aid of helping children fight life-threatening illnesses.

You can help a child’s dream come true by buying your R10 sticker from a Wimpy near you in a show of support and solidarity for the Reach for A Dream Foundation.

If you wear your sticker and slippers to Wimpy, you are guaranteed to get a free cup of its regular coffee.

“Last year stickers sold through Wimpy

outlets resulted in just over R1,1 million in funds. This year we would like to sell even more to our loyal customers to further aid this non-profit organisation,” says Karabo Morudu, Wimpy brand manager.

“Reach for A Dream has been around for 27 years and has dedicated itself to making dreams come true.

No dream is too small or too big and ranges from children wanting to see the ocean for the first time, taking a drive in a Ferrari, a flight in a helicopter, becoming a doctor for the day or visiting Disney World. All funds and proceeds raised through Slipper Day will help put a smile on the faces of the foundation’s dream children,” says Bronwyn Feldwick-Davis of Reach for A Dream.

The day proved to be a success as the school managed

to raise much-needed funds. The marketing manager,

Francina du Plessis, on behalf of the school, thanked all those involved for making it a success.

“Particular thanks to all our sponsors, the golfers, Ryk Lacock and his team at the golf club, without you the day would not have been a success,” she said as she wrapped up the evening.
