BOX TECHNICIANS BRIEFING Moto3 and Moto2 Moto3 - Before the first free practice on Friday, the Moto3 tyre Technicians must be in Technical Control 30 minutes before the start of practice. At this time an IRTA Technical Staff member will accompany you to your allocated garages or tents to show you the ‘Engine Check’ and ‘Tyre Scanning’ procedures. - For all the other sessions Technicians must arrive at their allocated garages or tents 10 - 15 minutes before the start of the practice or qualifying sessions. Moto3 Engine Control - The first job of the Technicians to do upon arrival at their allocated areas is the ‘Moto3 Engine Control’. The procedure is as follows: Each Technician will be allocated a folder containing an ‘Engine Number Check Sheet’ for all their assigned riders; the sheet is designed with squares where you can see all the riders allocated engines numbered 1 – 6. (See sample sheet below) First check the riders’ number on the front of the bike and then find the corresponding rider number on the checksheet. The next step is to find the yellow engine control sticker. This can be found on the rear part of the engine by following the chain line to just above the swinging arm part of the chassis. (See below) Take note of the engine identification number and mark the corresponding engine number on the checksheet by circling the number in bold as shown in the sample above.

BOX TECHNICIANS BRIEFING Moto3 and Moto2

Moto3 - Before the first free practice on Friday, the Moto3 tyre Technicians must be in Technical Control 30

minutes before the start of practice.

Moto3 Engine Control

- The first job of the Technicians to do upon arrival at their allocated areas is the ‘Moto3 Engine Control’. The procedure is as follows:

Each Technician will be allocated a folder containing an ‘Engine Number Check Sheet’ for all their assigned riders; the sheet is designed with squares where you can see all the riders allocated engines numbered 1 – 6. (See sample sheet below)

First check the riders’ number on the front of the bike and then find the corresponding rider number on the checksheet.

A new engine check sheet will be supplied for every session, except for the race where the WARM UP check sheet will be used to confirm if the same engine for the race.

Before leaving the Technical Control Area please make sure you have your engine check sheet folder, pen and torch.

NOTE: Please do not lean on the bikes or use as a table to mark your engine sheets.

Moto3 Tyre Scanning

- The second and main job during the sessions is the control of the tyres. This is to check that the riders are using only the tyres that are allocated to them.

THIS IS A RANDOM CONTROL CHECK BUT PLEASE DO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE DURING THE SESSIONS WHEN CONVENIENT, TAKING CARE NOT TO DISTURB THE MECHANICS WORKING ON THE BIKES.

o WE WILL EXPLAIN THE TYRE CHECKING PROCEDURES AND HOW TO OPERATE THE SCANNERS DURING THE INITIAL TECHINICAL CONTROL BRIEFINGS.

- Each Technician will be given one scanner to check the bar code on the side of the tyres. As an additional aid you will find in technical folders printed tyre lists of the barcodes for all riders. If at any point the scanners do not work, please refer to these lists as a backup.

If at first the scan does not work correctly, please check that the scanner is on the correct screen/page. If this is correct and the scan still does not work, try wiping a finger across the barcode to remove any dirt and try rescanning. If after a few attempts the scanner still does not work, the tyre number can be entered manually using the numerical keypad on the scanner.

NOTE: For Moto3 tyres, the Front Tyre barcode is on the left side of the tyre and the Rear Tyre barcode in on the right side of the tyre.

When the sessions have finished, the Technicians must return to the Technical Control area as soon as possible, returning their scanners and folders back to the designated areas.

If at any pint during a session a Technician finds a problem with a tyre or any other issue, they MUST remain in the team garages or tents making sure that the problem tyre does not go out of sight. An IRTA Technical staff member will see that a scanner/folder has not been returned after the session

Page 3: BOX TECHNICIANS BRIEFING Moto3 and Moto2 · BOX TECHNICIANS BRIEFING Moto3 and Moto2 Moto3 - Before the first free practice on Friday, the Moto3 tyre Technicians must be in Technical

and this will indicate a problem has been found. An IRTA Technical staff member will then come to find the missing technician and resolve the problem that has been found.

During the sessions there will always be at least one IRTA staff member in pit lane who can be informed of any problems or answer any questions also.

It is very important that at the end of the sessions the scanners and folders are returned as soon as possible to avoid any concerns about a problem that may have been found.

If a tyre problem has been found, whether it is a missing bar code label or an unallocated tyre issue, please DO NOT stop the riders/bikes from leaving the garage but let them continue the session. When the bike returns do not let the tyre out of sight and remain with the tyre until an IRTA Technical staff member comes to assist you.

Moto2

For the Moto2 category, the tyre scanning procedure is the same as Moto3.

The Box Technicians are not required to perform engine checks for Moto2.
