Principal’s Message Working Bee
We look forward to joining together as a whole school community for our Working Bee this Friday
afternoon. Activities include: general gardening (both in the school grounds and at the Community
Garden); shovelling some good stuff out at the school farm; and refreshing the soft-fall beneath the play
equipment.
Please try to come in and lend a hand this Friday 26th October. We’ll commence as soon as possible straight
after school and finish up with a Lions Club BBQ at the Community Garden from 5:30pm. It would be
helpful if volunteers could bring their own favourite garden tools.
Please try to support your school in this practical and fun way if you can. If possible we would like to have a
Working Bee twice each year: once in Spring (Term 4), and once in Autumn (Term 2).
A Healthy School
Our new water cooler has been installed! Partly funded by the Live Life Well at School program, Bowraville
CS is promoting good health by encouraging students to drink plenty of clean water. Situated just outside
the school library, our new bubbler provides chilled filtered water for all. Active growing brains and bodies
need lots of this great stuff every day – we hope that all students, staff and visitors will make good use of
it.
Have a great week.

Please remind your child to bring in
their Home Readers.
Congratulations Amanda Voutier,
you have read for over 125 nights and
Fantastic effort Ben Whalen and
Varoon Pitcher for over 150 nights.
It would be appreciated if you could remind your
child not to bring any fiddly small items to school as
they are causing ownership problems and are being
lost. This is resulting in distressed children

Infants Social
An Infants Social will also be run on Wednesday 31st
October in the afternoon from 2pm concluding 3pm.
There is no charge for this event.
Hats Students have been reminded daily about the
importance of wearing a hat when in the playground.
Students who do not wear a hat will be moved to a
shaded area in the playground by the teacher on duty.
Students who do not wear a hat in sport time can only
participate in activities run in the under covered areas.
Please ensure a hat is packed in the school bag daily.
Infants Hats It is compulsory for infants to wear a royal blue bucket
hat as part of the school uniform. Students may wear
caps to school and in Area 4 before school, but need
to keep these in their bags till home time for the
duration of the day. Every Kinder student has been
supplied a hat for the last few years and there are a
small number of spare hats that children may borrow.
Please remind your child to wear their school hat at
Recess and Lunch. Thank you

Primary / Secondary Social Theme “Spooky”
A combined Primary and Secondary Social will be held
on Wednesday evening the 31st October. This will be
the last social for 2012 and will run between 6 and
8pm.
Entry will cost $2 for students that have remained on
Gold this term.
A canteen will also be run on the evening with a
variety of food and drink available.
Gold Coast With just two weeks until departure, parents are
reminded to finalise payments for the trip ($575).
Permission, medical and final information notes were
handed out last week and need to be returned to the
office promptly.
Relay for Live Over the weekend senior students participated in the
“Relay for Life” activity held at the Macksville Show
Ground.
Students under the supervision of the Rushtons and
Mrs Low, walked the arena from 2pm on a scorching
Saturday and concluded 9am Sunday morning.
Student’s commitment to the activity raised around
$500 from our community which when added to the
other 20 team’s effort, a total of $40 000 was raised to
be directed into cancer research.
A big thankyou goes to the team with very sore feet
and lacking sleep:
Courtney Elliott, Cohen Finlay, Ethan Burns, Anthony
Walker, Sarah McLauchlan, Rose Cherie Galea, Georgia
Rae, Amy Morris, Emma Johnstone, Janaya Doolan,
Tas Jarrett, Luke Rushton, Jonah and Clementine de l a
Hunty, plus the many staff, parents and students who
dropped in or donated to the cause over the 19
gruelling hours.
Year 10 Motivational Speech Last Friday Year 10 and one Year 9 student went to
Coffs Harbour Educational Campus to listen to a
seminar from Victorian Young Australian of the Year
Anj Barker.
From the first few seconds everyone was totally
shocked and listening intently to her story. Anj was in
a special powered wheel chair. She had a microphone
and struggled to whisper a few words. Anj had been in
a violent relationship when she was 16 which ended
with her being bashed by her boyfriend. With the aide
of her story being presented in text on a big screen
and computerised voice, Anj outlined how her
boyfriend became controlling of her, took advantage
of her low self-esteem, and then became abusive.
She has spent three years in hospitals and nursing
homes, learning to speak and having intense
physiotherapy. She now works tirelessly advocating
for victim’s rights, being an anti-violence campaigner
and showing young people how anything is possible.
The day was an important one for our students. They
learnt how to recognise when someone may be
experiencing difficulties in a relationship, the
importance of supporting your friends and in many
ways how good our lives are when you compare our
life with many others.
Thank you to all students who attended for your
exemplary behaviour, attention and respect. Also to Di
Flanders for her insight and support of students.
