#Solvable film premier screening | 27 June, 1:30pmThe Solvable documentary film is a character-driven story about what is possible when we harness expertise in science, technology, and the use of data to find and scale solutions -- and how the optimism those solutions generate can drive further progress.

The film is comprised of three chapters: the story of a woman in Kenya who survives a near-fatal childbirth with the help of a simple medical device and a nurse trained to use it, and the effort to bring that training and technology to every Kenyan childbirth; the story of farmers in Ethiopia equipped with the technology and tools to move beyond subsistence farming to produce enough yield to supply regional and global markets; and the story of the economic opportunities that become possible for an Indian village when they are given access to electricity through local solar-powered mini-grids.

The film is produced by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmakers The Documentary Group and The Rockefeller Foundation.

POLICY EXPERIENCE SOCIAL INVESTMENT LANDSCAPE REPORTS

Since its inception, the AVPN Asia Policy Forum has aimed to draw the policy community more closely and constructively into the social investment landscape. With keynotes and plenaries to breakout sessions and closed-door dialogues with a policy perspective, the AVPN Conference continues to be a platform for policy, philanthropy and private sector stakeholders to make long-lasting impact.

Experience the policy lens in three ways

Join this year’s signature policy session, APFx Policy Lab: Driving Knowledge Experience towards Action, which will feature policy initiatives championed by the 2019 AVPN Policy Leadership Lab Fellows seeking consultation from the social investment community.

Listen to the keynote from Guest-Of-Honour, Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

Join these selected sessions relevant to policy stakeholders:

About APFx: Policy Exchange for Impact

AVPN’s Social Investment Landscape in Asia initiative serves as a guide for funders and resource providers to assess the opportunities and challenges for social investment across 14 markets in North, South and Southeast Asia. This includes an online portal (https://avpn.asia/si-landscape/) facilitating data analysis and research, and 14 separately downloadable reports covering each market.

Since the launch of this initiative, the online portal has been visited by more than 200,000 visitors and the market reports have been downloaded more than 10,000 times across the world.

In coming iterations, we will create a dynamic mapping tool to help members identify how to better align their work to national and global targets like the Sustainable Development Goals, and to also find like-minded organisations for partnership and collaboration opportunities across our platform, including Deal Share and APFx. Every week, curated information will be added to the online portal to inform our audience and build their capacity for action. In this way, we hope to help members maximise their collective impact towards addressing Asia’s most pressing challenges.

Contribute towards more knowledge creation in this sector through:

Core support for the Social Investment Landscape in Asia initiative

Seed grants to pursue innovative research for the sector, such as the reports on Philanthropy in China and Financing the Future of Asia: Innovations in Sustainable Finance

Collaborating with us on relevant workshops and training to build capacity and specialised skills in the sector
