On Saturday, November 12, 2011, a special moment took place when Lori and Daren Jacobs of Pembroke, MA stepped onto center ice just before the game. They were asked to drop the ceremonial puck to honor their son, Lt. Charlie Jacobs, who was currently deployed to Afghanistan with the 182nd MASS Army National Guard, as well as other military members and their families during that Veteran’s Day week. Little did the Jacobs know, Charlie was in the building waiting to surprise them with his return home.

Lt. Charlie Jacobs was then introduced to a warm welcome home from his first tour of duty. As he proceeded onto the ice to assist his mother and father in dropping the puck the emotional moment overtook the Jacobs family, and both the Bruins and Sabres players gave the traditional hockey salute by knocking their sticks on the boards in front of their respective benches.

REUNION AT CENTER ICE

The Boston Bruins honored local military members, veterans and their families on a special game night where season ticket holders and other fans purchased specially priced tickets that were donated to the USO and given to local military families to attend the game. Milan Lucic, Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference, Johnny Boychuk and Nathan Horton each donated $5,000, which the Boston Bruins Foundation matched, toward these tickets and hosted a post-game meet-and-greet with members of the military. Bruins wives and girlfriends sold raffle tickets and collected monetary donations during the game to benefit Operation Homefront.

The Boston Bruins proudly salute the men and women of the United States Armed Forces throughout the season with the 8-Spoked Salute honoring their service to our country. Honorees receive four complimentary tickets to a Bruins home game and a live welcome on the Garden HDX video board.

Even with two open-heart surgeries and heart disease at a young age, Nolan Harrison has kept a charming and confident attitude throughout his complications. On December 23, 2011, one day before his sixth birthday, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Boston Bruins worked together to make the five year-old’s wish come true, to meet the Boston Bruins players. Nolan was treated to an incredible night of activities, which included a shopping spree in the Bruins Proshop, watching the game from Patrice Bergeron’s private suite, and a gift presentation from Nathan Horton (above) and Milan Lucic. It was truly a birthday celebration that he will never forget.

MAKE-A-BRUINS-WISH

During the holiday season, the Bruins reach more than 600 children in local area hospitals by donating more than $25,000 worth of gifts that are hand delivered by every player on the Bruins roster.

The Boston Bruins and the United States Marine Corps collected more than 1,200 toys and $4,000 in monetary donations from Bruins fans at home games in December for the Toys for Tots program. Fans that donated or made a $10 contribution to the program were entered into a raffle for a chance to win Bruins autographed memorabilia.

A total of $25,000 worth of toys were purchased with the help of donations from Bruins players, Boston Bruins Foundation, Gentle Giant andAT&T, the presenting sponsor. Players delivered the toys, with help from Volvo and Gentle Giant. BE PATIENT, STAY POSITIVEAfter being paralyzed in a high school hockey game two years ago, Norwood’s Matt Brown was visited in the hospital by Patrice Bergeron who delivered a jersey with the words ‘Stay Positive! ’ and ‘Be Patient’ written on it. Touched by his story, Bergeron also invited Brown to a Bruins game and met with him post-game to reiterate the positive messages. The jersey has continued to be motivation for Matt during his recovery and has remained by his side ever since. Through the Matt Brown Gala, hosted by the Boston Bruins Foundation and the TD Garden, funds were raised to purchase Matt a new state-of-the-art wheelchair. With the assistance of his new wheelchair, Matt was able to stand and drop the ceremonial first puck at the Bruins game versus the Islanders on March 3, 2012. Matt is not only an inspiration to Patrice Bergeron but all of the Boston Bruins organization and fans. After the positive reaction from the crowd, Matt had this to say, “…but just listening to the crowd react like that, like I said before, I didn’t think in a million years I would have an impact like that.”

Boston firefighters and volunteers from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) encouraged fans to “Fill the Boot”. MDA volunteers sold mystery-autographed pucks, while families active in MDA took part in fan experiences.

The Boston Bruins hosted their annual PJ Drive presented by AT&T. More than 15,000 pairs of pajamas were collected at elementary schools, libraries and through donations to benefit Cradles to Crayons.

The Boston Bruins and the March of Dimes partnered up to raise money and awareness for babies born prematurely. Bruins wives, girlfriends and volunteers from the March of Dimes sold mystery pucks and 50/50 raffle tickets to help support the cause.

The Boston Bruins, American Heart Association and Tufts Medical Center presented Heart Health Night where Bruins fans could get their blood pressure checked by staff from the CardioVascular Center at Tufts Medical Center during the game.

The Boston Bruins, in partnership with Bob’s Discount Furniture, teamed up with the Boston Celtics to host a blood drive at the TD Garden. The event was a huge success with more than 700 pints being collected for the American Red Cross.

Each October the Bruins dedicate one game to cancer awareness. Cancer patients and their families are invited to attend and participate in exclusive fan experiences, as well as a special meet-and-greet with Bruins players post-game.
