The project to bring the sports pitch, which would be available for use by the local community, to Boston was recently granted £120,000 from the Ministry of Homes, Communities and Local Government under the Town Deal Accelerated Funding scheme. Those behind the 3G pitch initiative are now applying to various other organisations in order to reach their final funding aim. Nick Bishop, Haven High Academy’s Head of Sport and project lead, said: “The granting of planning permission is great news and means that getting the 3G pitch installed for the community to use at Haven High Academy is now one step closer. “This community investment project is a fantastic demonstration of how a team collaboration between Haven High Academy, the regional FA and the borough council can bring results. “We have submitted further bids for funding, including one to the Football Foundation, and look forward to hearing decisions on these early next year. “We have also been working with local football clubs to look at future plans regarding football development in the town, as well as undertaking further consultations with local residents to enable us to take on board their views about our 3G pitch project.” The 3G pitch project, which would include all associated facilities, is being supported by the Lincolnshire Football Association. Boston Borough Council identified the 3G pitch as a key project in July. It is hoped the pitch would promote various kinds of sporting and physical activity while bringing together groups of all ages and abilities within a community hub, with aims of improving wellbeing levels in the area. Coun Nigel Welton, Boston Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Planning, said: “I’m pleased planning has been approved for this key project. This 3G pitch will be a top of the range addition to Boston’s outdoor fitness activities, providing a valuable space for the borough’s many football teams of all ages. “Helping the borough stay active and healthy whilst enjoying a premium sporting facility was one of our aims from the accelerator funding delivered earlier in the year.” To lend your support in any way to the 3G pitch project email [email protected] Haven High 3G Pitch Proposal Approved Mental health and emotional wellbeing helpline.
