1.1 ABOUT BOSCH

History of Bosch

In 1886, Robert Bosch founded the "Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering" in

Stuttgart. This was the birth of today's globally active Robert Bosch GmbH. From the very

beginning, the company's history has been characterized by innovative drive and social

commitment. In 1928, Bosch founded its Power Tool Division (PT).

Today Bosch is proud to be the market leader in our industry and we will be honored to celebrate in

2011 the 125th Anniversary of our company. In 2008, the 80th Anniversary of Bosch Power Tools was

celebrated worldwide. Unlike the 80th anniversary where it was all about PT, the 125 years also

aims at presenting our company values and philosophy.

Bosch Tradition

Bosch has a tradition of innovation: from the beginning the company's founder Robert Bosch was

determined to develop high-end technologies in a socially responsible way. The company's history

shows that Bosch is still guided by these principles. And the technical expertise and innovation

leadership of the power tools Division is built on them. In Asia Pacific, Bosch enjoys a good

reputation as a German brand, known for quality, innovation and long-term business approach and

partnership with our business partners.

Bosch promise: A pioneer and innovator, Bosch leads the way in quality, performance & reliability.

Bosch Group Vision: Innovative strength- Bosch is a technology leader in many fields as a result of

the persistent and continuous research conducted in the company's Development Centres. We can

also be proud of the Impressive number of inventions per year: 3,870 patents filed in 2009. Social

environmental responsibility: We accept that our actions must accord with the interests of society.

Above all else, we place our products and services in the interests of the safety of people, the

economic use of resources, and environmental sustainability.

1.2 BACKGROUNDER ON BOSCH POWER TOOLS ASIA CORDLESS RACE 2011

Bosch Power Tools Asia Cordless Race 2011

In conjunction with Bosch’s 125 anniversary in 2011, Bosch Power Tools is taking the opportunity to

celebrate with a Bosch Power Tools Asia Cordless Race 2011. Participating countries are: China,

Thailand, Phillipines, South Korea and Malaysia.

Open to students from any Malaysian university and/ or technical institutions, the championship

will challenge students to design a blueprint for a racing kart powered entirely by 4 Bosch GSB 18V-

Li Professional cordless drills / drivers.

Eight teams will then be shortlisted, whereby each team will receive an allowance of RM12,000 to

build karts based on their blueprint submission. The finalists will then race their Cordless Karts at

the Open Car Park Space on Jalan Binjai, near KLCC on 30 July 2011.

The winner of the race will represent Malaysia at the Grand Finals in Beijing, China and stand a

chance to win some amazing prizes.

About the Bosch Power Tools Cordless Race

The races will involve challenging engineering students to create racing-carts powered by Bosch

cordless Lithium-Ion technology. Teams will race modified carts powered by the latest generation

of cordless lithium-ion drill / drivers. Riders battle for a place on the winner’s podium, whilst

simultaneously proving an important point – that Bosch’s latest Premium Lithium Ion battery

technology offers the power, performance, lifetime and speed required to win in the race for the

ultimate in cordless power tools.

Bosch cordless Lithium-Ion

The Bosch Lithium-ion cordless power tools provide the required power, performance, lifetime and

speed for the carts in this competition. As an innovative technology, Bosch’s Premium Lithium-Ion

Battery Technology is capable of delivering four times longer lifetime than similar technology in the

market and is as powerful as corded tools. Its patented Electronic Cell Protection (ECP) reliably

protects the battery against overload, overheating and deep discharge.

4.3 THE MOTOR

New open-frame motor with 4-poles

It’s small in size, light in weight yet powerful

Magnetic force is applied to the whole rotor circumference

Combines rare earth magnets (strongest type of permanent magnets available) in a 4-pole

motor

Hence, results in a powerful high torque, efficient motor design

4.4 ELECTRONIC MOTOR PROTECTION

The Electronic Motor Protection (EMP) protects the motor from overload

It continuously controls the discharge current, temperature of the battery pack and

discharge status

The limits for these parameters are defined in such a way that the motor is protected from

damage

Depending on the measured values, an intelligent algorithm controls the motor

performance

As soon as the EMP recognizes an overload that could damage the batteries of the motor, it

shuts down the tool

4.5 BOSCH PREMIUM LI-ION TECHNOLOGY

Benefits of Li-ion Battery

More power at the same weight

- Compared to Ni-technology batteries, therefore tools can get smaller and lighter

No memory effect

- Battery does not need to be empty before charging. It can be taken out of the

charger before the charging process is completed

Significantly less self-discharge

- A battery that is not used for long periods of time do not need to be charged prior

to use again

No loss of power

- Full battery power from the first to the last screw or hole

4.6 ELECTRIC CELL PROTECTION

The Electric Cell Protection (ECP), protects the Li-ion battery from 3 dangers:

Deep Discharge

- Reduction of current flow if voltage level is at its end

Overheating

- Decreasing of the current flow if the tool or the battery is too hot

Overload

- Reducing currently flow if the current draw is too high

4.7 HEAT CONDUCTIVE HOUSING

The unique Bosch Heat Conductive Housing (HCH) on the battery pack works for reducing the heat

during the operation, through the following methods:

Heat balancing between the cells to ensure an equal temperature level within the battery

The radiator outside the battery pack allows for an optimal heat emission from inside the

back
