BÜRGERHAUS Enlight2012-Laureate competition-

with Rozenn Balay and Christopher Phiphak.Eidelstedt - Hamburg - Germany

The Bürgerhaus is a very dynamic community center, with lots of activities (theater/kids activities) and located in a strategic place (zentrum Eidelstedt/next to commercial area). The center has a good potential for being a strong public infrastructure. Indeed the building has good volumes and good spacial possibilities. Yet, the Bürgerhaus is overused, and lost in its surrounding. The Strategy, is to increase the already exis-ting qualities. Open and enlight the building as well as turn it into a real city signal. Open the building by the inside with a diagonal that would redynamize the building. This allows us to reorganize the Inside from the basement to the top, to enter light and even extend from above. Moreover the diagonal changes the shape of the building. The front becomes more visible, and the building from the surrounding is more present. In fact, on the place the building metamorphosis changes also the place. Which is now more structured and give more visibility to the building and to the public place around.

RELOAD Shanghai2012-

with Alexandre Renimel - Rethinking Shanghai Competition- Wusong River - Shanghai - China

Shanghai, world-renowned and global-reaching Megalopolis, faces multiple challenges today, as it shifts into the city of tomorrow : urban density, pollu-tion control and revegetation. As a cosmopolitan city, it attracts a large com-munity of expatriates. Its urban area accommodates 23 million inhabitants, three times the population of New York Cit. But paradoxically, its density is two times lower. Confronted to a generic mass-urbanization, Shanghai finds itself in need to search for its own densification identity in order to protect its heritage.« Reload Shanghai » is the answer to the future densification of the metropolis. It associates the contemporary verticality to the cultural horizontality in the archi-tectural legacy. The development of a lightweight stratified structural system al-lows the optimization and perpetual renewal of three-dimensional urban shapes. The creation of layers of decontaminating plants and agricultural spaces are tools used to tackle urban and industrial pollution and improve the quality of life, by increasing the presence of nature everywhere in the city. This environmental me-tamorphosis, both urban and ecological, places Shanghai’s inhabitants at the heart of this urban creation. A fundamentally holistic project, combining conservation and innovation, freedom of the individual and knowledge of collective values.

JERUSALEM2013- with Marie Gely

Jerusalem - Israel

This project is an archeological research center located in Jerusalem. The main idea it will characterize this place with a specific shape to remember a archeologie: so we have decided to design a shape like tower babel. The programme is a workingplace, a library, two housing and eight double room. It’s an obligation to build with the «je-rusalem’s stone». The difficultie is to combine this stone with the sape and drawing the elevation about the inside and outside spaces. The black points of the space pro-gram are written to be regarded as mandatory and accommodate the design to un-derstand the information gray and italicized as suggestions as to how the space pro-gram could be, for example, and depending on concept and expanded volume. Since the building is limited in its extent, priority shall be given to the program required in every case. Integrate into the new building is the basement of the existing foundation.

WHITE Rail2013- with Thomas Zilliox

Moorweide Parc - Hamburg - Germany

This project results from the use of the grids theme in architecture applied to the Damm-tor park in Hamburg. The aim here is to build an exhibition hall of which the design is free of any constraint unless the use of whatever weft. It is therefore important to develop a strong concept around the grid and be able to translate it in terms of spa-tiality. This is why we chose a weft oriented in accordance with the footpath in the park and the main road in the east limit. The idea of movement and the one to guide the pedestrians from the station to the park was an important basis in our project. The concept works in three different box systems: some can be entirely closed, some totally open, and some partially open. The challenge was to create a large exhibition with flexible spaces, including a circulation related to the walking process while allowing the trees to participate in the project. The liberties taken regarding the structural grid is due to the integration of different boxes. This game allows a course: it defines dif-ferent platforms exposure on one side and follows a continuous ramp on the other side.

ARTex2012-with Rumeysa Saglam

Hafen City - Hamburg - Germany

This project is a museum located in the new flagship district of Hamburg, the HafenCity, and presents a major challenge: it will characterize the place dedicated to culture as well as art in the same neighborhood. It is supposed to impose itself by its program, but also treated as a building «landmark» for new residents. the way of designing this project is totally experimental. It was not to create something feasible at any point, but to think dif-ferently space by offering new spacial possibilities. The site is on a peninsula completely blank, in an in-between that links the HafenCity and the industrial harbor. The project is generated by the interweaving of different skylines of these two districts. This superposi-tion results in a form that can be likened to a stone shaped or cut diamond. The first idea was to ensure that the building is characterized not only by its form indicating its presence in the way, but also the establishment of a special relationship created with water. The ground is precisely the birthplace of this architecture that gives the impression of being out of the ground in the direction of the water. Therefore the shape refers to the function.

SLIDING BOXES2012- with Adeline Boulaire

The submarine base -St Nazaire- France

This project comes from a thinking on architecture, materials and climate. The se-lected program was to develop a specific architecture which fits into both the cli-mate and the site, and is an answer to the housing demand of the population of St Nazaire. This project is part of a strong urban dynamics, it intends to go in line with the policy of the city trying to reconnect the city center with the wet dock and create a founder axis. And to a more global approach, a view on the estuary Nantes - Saint-Nazaire, the second intention is to create a new axis linking the sub-marine base at the beach promenade. The site was chosen as it is juxtaposed with the old submarine base, and generates its shape in this continuity of cellular rate. It is the negative of this historic building that highlights the contrast. Each cellu-lar building is then oriented to optimize the thermal and visual quality. Each band is mono-oriented and supported by a system of double skin and semi mobile cli-mate box. This double skin allows to modify the living space which just extends to the outside in the summer and poetically changes the facade over the seasons. The housing space is dedicated to temporary shared flats of workers, tourists and students. The privatization of the transition spaces depends on changing popula-tions and changing climate. On the other hand the families living in the building all year long take place in small qualitative houses on the upper slope of the building.

UMNUTZUNGEN2013-with Lisa Schmidt Hamburg - Germany

This project is an apartment building located in Hamburg. The project is to reno-vate a old industrial building. We have decided to keep all the building and to put some boxes inside to create the housing spaces. Our intention was to mix dif-ferent people : the students and the family. In one part of the building we have to create some working place for the resident. this building is a climatic builidng with several climatic zone. The warm spaces are only in the new housing boxes.

HUB SCALE2011- with Adeline Boulaire, Antoine Allain Dupré.

Panama Canal - Panama

Panama is a global trading hub in the center of the Americas, between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Nowadays the canal is an international shipping route exceeded the trade volume and changing the templates cargo. In addition, the competition from various international waterways, as the Bering Strait, involves the economy of an entire country. How to maintain the canal in a competitive way ? In the canal entrance, near Pa-nama city, converges the Pan American Highway, the canal and the rail traffic. This loca-tion is strategic for unprecedented intensive business. The aim is to make the connection of its lanes to exploit the unique potential of this site. The Panamanian government de-cided to establish an intermodal platform. Therefor, for alleviating half capacity container through the channel, or 189 000 containers per day. Between the port and the city, this synapse just gives a boost to Panama. At the heart of international economical exchanges, this city which is a true «industrial Eldorado», could become a global economic capital.
