General Notes on General & Preliminaries

AThe Tender Sum shall be FIX LUMP SUM. The Tender Sum shall be deemed to have included for all requirements, obligations and work as stated in any of the Contract & Tender Documents.----

BThe Quantities set out in the Bills of Quantities are deemed to have been verified by the Contractor as being the quantities of the whole works required to be executed by him in accordance with the Contract Drawings and Contract Documents and will be subject to re-measurement on completion. The Contractor may add new items as he may find necessary to include for all the works or obligations required by the Contractor as defined or stated in the Tender and the Contract Documents. (New items made by the Contractor shall be at the "end of the item" in the Bill provided for).----

CThe Contractor is to provide the Engineer when required by the Engineer a breakdown of each unit rate into materials, labour, plant, overhead and profit. Each unit rate shall correspond to that included in the Schedule of Rates.----

DThese Preliminaries are applicable to the whole of the Works. If the Tenderer wishes to price any of the items contained herein then each such item, clause or sub-clause must be individually priced. Where an item, clause or sub-clause of the Preliminaries has not been priced, it will be deemed that the value of such item, clause or sub-clause is included in the rates entered elsewhere in the Bills of Quantities.----

EThe description included in the Bills of Quantities to describe the workmanship and materials necessary for each item are not necessarily complete. The Tenderer is referred to the Specifications, Conditions of Contract and other documents and the Drawings for further information concerning the works and no claim or variation will be considered on account of his failure to acquaint himself with such information.----

FThe Contractor shall satisfy himself as to the meaning of every item in the Bills of Quantities, the correctness, completeness, and with rates and prices inserted by the Contractor will be deemed to cover all his obligations under the Contract and all matters and things necessary for the proper construction, completion and maintenance of the Works (including, but not by way of limitation), for all temporary works required (including any that may be required by sub-Contractors, whether nominated or otherwise). ----

Pricing Generally

The price shall include for all materials and labour and for the provision and use of all plant-whether mechanical or non - mechanical - required for the expeditious carrying out of the works in their proper sequence-for shifting, altering and adapting such temporary work and plant as may be required during the progress of the works and removing at completion and making good any surfaces disturbed; and if not included in any prices inserted against the clauses of the Conditions of Contract above, for the Guarantees and bonds required; for the costs of preparing a Tender; and the final account; and for all other establishment charges and on costs of whatever nature. No claim for additional payment will be allowed for any error or misunderstanding by the Contractor in these respects.----

Mobilization & Demobilization

1.1Mobilisation and demobilisation at the site of all required construction plants, equipments and labour for the proper execution of the Works and the subsequent removal of these and cleaning up of site upon completion of the Works.1LS350,000350,000

Insurance and Bank Guarantee

Fire Hydrant4.12100 mm dia double pillar fire hydrant as detailed in the Drawings at locations to be decided by the Engineer. Rate to include all pipe fittings and specials, landing valve, precast chamber and mass concrete supports.

Connection to Existing SWCC's branch pipeworksRate to include all necessary temporary works, trial pit to determine OD of existing pipe, excavation, backfilling and making good to original condition. The Contractor is required to liaise with SWCC for approval prior to carrying out the interconnection works.

4.13Carry out interconnection works from new DN 250 mm pipeline to existing 250 mm dia pipe at SWCC's interconnection point. Rate to include pipe cutting, jointing, welding and supply of collar to suit OD of existing pipe.

PREAMBLE

Any work ordered by the Employer to be carried out by daywork shall be paid for at the rates entered hereunder subject to the following conditions: -

1Daily Rate means eight (8) hour day. Should more than eight and less than twenty-four hours be worked consecutively (excluding normal breaks, etc.) the excess hours will be paid pro rate daily rate.

2Hourly Rate means any hour of any period less than eight (8) hours.

3The rates entered for labour shall be deemed to include all on-costs associated with the employment of such labour including (inter-alia), head office charges, overhead charges, profit, site supervision and staff, insurances, wages, travelling time and expenses, subsistence allowances, time lost due to inclement weather, bonus, holiday and sick pay and any other employee's fringe benefit(s), provision of protective clothing, ordinary tools, small plant not provided under `Plant' below and consumable stores, temporary equipment such as wagons, temporary tracks, ladders, staging, scaffolding and all items of a similar nature unless these are provided or set up exclusively for the daywork.

4The time of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labour shall be paid for at the appropriate rate, but the time of supervisory staff including site agent shall be deemed to be included in the rates entered for labour.

5Payment for labour shall be reckoned from the time labour arrives at the job site to execute the particular item of daywork until labour leaves the job site but excluding breaks and rest periods.

6The rates entered for plant, whether hired or owned by the Contractor shall be deemed to include all overhead charges, profit, site supervision and staff, hire charges, fuel, maintenance, consumable stores, spare parts, insurances, etc., but shall exclude the cost of wages for drivers and operators, which shall be payable separately as dealt with under paragraph 3 above.

7Payment for Plant shall be made only at such times as the plant is engaged on daywork, and shall exclude all standing, idle, down time or travelling time to and from the place of work.

8The prices for materials shall include delivery to the local site where daywork is done, checking on site, handling, storage, site haulage, wastage, establishment charges, overheads and profits.

9The daywork rates shall also cover works carried out on overtime basis or on Friday and public holidays. The Employer reserves the right to order daywork outside normal working hours or on Friday and public holidays.

10The cost for special watching and lighting necessitated by dayworks shall be included in the rates.

11If any workman or item of plant on daywork does not readily belong to any classification included in the Schedule or inserted by the Contractor at the time of tendering, the Employer shall determine the equivalent classification to be adopted for such workman or item of plant, and payment for such will be made accordingly.

12The rates inserted by the Contractor shall be realistic rates in conformity with those on which his tender has been based, and shall be firm from the time to the Contractor commences the Works on Site until the end of the Defects Liability Period.

13Provision is made for the insertion of rates for additional items which the Contractor may consider likely to be employed.

14The Employer shall have the power to examine and subsequently ascertain the reasonableness of the rates inserted. Where found to be unreasonable, the Employer shall be empowered to make a fair valuation of the relevant rates
