What is BOOST

Boost is a not-for-profit community organization committed to eliminating abuse and violence in the lives of children, youth and their family.

Boost Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention (formerly Toronto Child Abuse Centre) was founded in 1981, divested from the municipal government and incorporated as a charitable organization in 1985.

Mission: Boost believes that “all

children and youth have a right to grow up in a safe, healthy and

nurturing environment.” Boost is, therefore, dedicated to prevention of child abuse and violence, through education and awareness Boost offers programs and services to any child and family living in the City of Toronto. Boost provides direct services to more than 1,000 children and their families each year through assessment and treatment, and court preparation programs. It has school-based programs too.

Taking It Back is a Youth Advisory Committee at Boost. This program is initiated to give youth who have participated in Boost’s programs and services an opportunity to have a voice at Boost.

Boost and Early Childhood EducatorsOne of the largest challenges Boost faces is educating the public about the issues like child abuse, bullying, family violence etc., and the need for awareness and prevention.Early childhood educators can participate in the following Prevention & Public Education Programs offered by Boost:

Go Purple for Prevention is a campaign launched by Boost on October 1st every year to raise awareness and to provide education to prevent abuse and violence. Over 60 municipalities in Ontario have committed their support of this important campaign and planned special events in their communities to raise awareness of this issue.
