PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear parents/carers,
The start to Term 3 has been a very busy and eventful one. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all parents/carers and family members who have attended and been
actively involved in many of our whole school events. This term we celebrated another KLA
day (Literacy focus) where we witnessed the painting of many amazing rocks. These rocks
will form the basis of a feature at the entrance to the school. This day again was combined
with a Coffee and Chat session focusing on the Occupational Therapy approaches being
utilised and the toolboxes being developed for each individual student. The hard work and
commitment of the Learning for Life team is having great and profound benefits to the
students in enabling them to self-regulate their emotions.
During Book Week celebrations we witnessed students and staff dressing up in their
favourite characters and sharing their experiences with books. Thank you Ms Jenny for
organising the performers and to all the parents and families who attended. The day ended
with an exciting and enjoyable treasure hunt where all students participated and should be
commended for their efforts and behaviour.
Throughout the first 5 weeks of this term, I have visited classes and have had students
visit me to showcase their work. It is amazing and very pleasing to see the great progress
and achievements being made by the students each and every day. The idea of visiting
classes and having students visit me is a major priority of mine and I am very proud to
witness the teaching and learning that is being delivered each day by the dedicated and
passionate staff at Minerva.
An important focus for staff at Minerva School is their on-going professional development
and career progression. This term a number of staff have attended courses and
experiences including implementing the new Literacy progressions into their teaching and
learning, teaching PDHPE to students with additional needs, aspiring executive courses,
Occupational therapy in-services and many other opportunities. It is this staff dedication
and willingness to continually develop their knowledge and skills that ensures that all
students are provided with up to date and relevant learning experiences.
The ‘Crunch n Sip’ project is being utilised each day and has seen an increase in students
consuming healthy fruits and vegetables and also drinking water. Students have also been
recording their physical activity as part of the Premier’s Sporting Challenge.
It has been a great start to term 3 and I look forward to the remainder of this term.

Schools Plus Project — Learning For Life
Hello Carers and Families, OT Christine here. I want to officially welcome
every family to the Learning for Life project! At the beginning of Term 3, we
expanded the scope of the project to include every student at Minerva. I have
been able to visit every class, meet with all of the teachers and plan to meet
the unique sensory needs and preferences of all students.
The amazing Learning for Life team has been busy setting up Zones of
Regulation displays in each classroom, trialling the sensory activity of the
fortnight and developing regulation toolboxes for the playground.
Thank you to caregivers who attended the KLA day and the Learning for Life
presentation “Ideas to help your student get into and stay in the GREEN
ZONE”. To facilitate access to sensory tools for regulation, we are hoping to
have a sensory tool borrowing library set up soon, so you can check out items
like a Bosu Ball, fit ball or mini trampoline to trial at home with your student.
If you have any questions, suggestions, feedback or comments- I would love to
hear from you on [email protected].
