Presentation

The itinerant exposure of djalma Santos intends to show to all capital of the country a bit of the history of one of the most brilliant soccer players of the world.

This exposure, composed of a collection of over 100 pieces (trophies, medals, diplomas, photos and videos), it’s a fair tribute to a man who, inside and outside the fields, was an example of responsibility and professionalism.

from the poor boy of Parada inglesa to the football fields of the world. djalma Santos is an example of life, persistence and overcoming. example that not need always be a gunner to be immortalized in soccer.

djalma Santos did one of the most shining soccer careers. his dream was protect the country in the sky inside the cabin of an aircraft of the Brazilian air force, but the destiny decided that he would defend our flag in the soccer fields.

a perfect athlete, a aware professional, owner of a impressive technical. an spectacular defender, impressive, firm and admirable.

Known as “iron Man”, thanks to his physical force, did history by the three great teams that he passed: Portuguesa, Palmeiras e atlético Paranaense.

he was the creator of a game that became popular: directly in charge of lateral area. he also became one of the first laterals of support the attack.

he defended the Brazilian team for 16 years, participating in four World’s cups, participating of the conquers of 1958 and 1962 by the side of great names like Zico, Bellini, nilton Santos, Garrincha, didi, Vavá and Pelé.

djalma Santos was born on february 27, 1929, in the neighborhood of Bom retiro in Sao Paulo, the only son of the couple, Sebastian and laura. When he was three years old, his father, soldier of the Public force, was fighting in the revolução constitucional of 32 and not returned. While the father was in battle, the mother, Mrs. laura, fought for her and their three children not die of hunger.

djalma escaped the boy’s death from pneumonia, remains with a bronchitis. Mrs. laura met a wagoner italian, Sr. Vitor, and the new family was living in the neighborhood of Parada inglesa. however, fate seemed implacable and his stepdad died in an accident. after the death of Vitor, the family moved to a town, near the Parada inglesa.

The family survived as was possible. for a while, sold popcorn and roasted peanuts in the door of a circus. The mother also worked as a maid while djalma became friend of daughter of the boss to get food and gain some tips.

When djalma was 12 years, he lost his mother, victim of cancer. The boy and his sister, anésia, started to live alone. djalma began working in a shoe factory.

he dreamed of being airman of the air. But an accident in the sewing machine broke the bones of her right hand and, ended with his dream to join the air force.

despite of the difficult life, djalma had your leisure: the football. he loved play football. The first contact him with the ball were in Group School of Parada inglesa, where did the primary. after, played in america (or “ameriquinha”), time of children of the neighborhood. also played in the internacional, another team of which near lived. These were the first steps of a long and successful career.

in 1948, djalma was invited to participate of the training of the Portuguese association of Sport. in the beginning, was among amateur of the club, while worked in a shoes factory to compensate for the exits in the days of training.

after much effort, ended up in the clouds: the Portuguesa hired him for the team principal. The poor boy turned professional. Participated in several games (the first against the Santos) and had two new experiences: sleeping away from home and travel by plane.

it was also guest to join the Seleção Paulista, which won four titles in the campeonato Brasileiro of Selections: 1952, 1954, 1956 and 1957.

Were 10 years of work by the Portuguesa. Twice won the cup rio-São Paulo (1952 and 1955). Travelled to europe by winning all friendly matches. Began to win fame as a right-lateral. it became the idol fans and is remembered today in the publications of the club.

in 1959, djalma Santos was for the Sociedade esportista Palmeiras, where he continued shining. The Verdão were more than 10 years of achievements: campeonato Paulista (1959, 1963 and 1966), Taça rio-São Paulo (1965), Taça Brasil (1960 and 1967), and Torneio roberto Gomes Pedrosa (the “robertão” in 1967). These two were the embryos of the Brazilian championship, which appeared in 1971.

in 1969, was transferred to clube atlético Paranaense. hurricane came to play the last two years of his career. even at 40 years, showed an unusual breadth and has the same ability.

Won the campeonato Paranaense in 1970. it was the last title of his glorious career. The farewell to djalma occurred on january 21, 1971, in a friendly game between atlético and Grêmio, when djalma was 41 years.

as was player of the Portuguesa and Palmeiras, djalma was constant presence in the Seleção Paulista de futebol. djalma won four times (1952, 1954, 1956 and 1957) the campeonato Brasileiro de Seleções, disputed competition between the best players of the Brazilian states between 1922 and 1987.

The official name of the competition was Brazilian Soccer championship, but with the beginning of the dispute of the national club championship in 1971, it has become known as campeonato Brasileiro de Seleções.

Thanks to its performance in the cup of 62, djalma Santos was the first Brazilian player to join the selection of fifa. it was october 23, 1963, during the celebrations of the centenary of the football association (fa), the first football association in the world and whose rules become the basis of the sport until the present day.

on occasion, the best players in the world, chosen by fifa (fifa World Stars), faced the selection english (or english Team) in the legendary Wembley Stadium in london.
